The Formula 1 game on the Sega CD finally gave us graphics comparable to the arcade shots seen in the infamous magazine ad for the Super Monaco Grand Prix port on the Sega Genesis where the gameplay was still fine but it lacked the visual pizazz of the trackside scaling scenery of the Superscaler original game, especially important for the Monaco track itself since it's a city street circuit passing by many buildings but you just got empty green scenery in the Genesis version with only the tunnel to remind you that you're in Monaco. Since that Formula 1 game proved the Sega CD could handle scaling in a racing game quite competently, I'm surprised they didn't try porting either Super Monaco GP or OutRun (or maybe even OutRunners) to Sega CD. I think the EB Games in the photo at 0:27 is the exact location I go by the most, Billings Bridge Shopping Centre in Ottawa. It has the same tiles and the decals by the door are in the exact same order and placement as in my own photos of the same location.

The team that developed Cadillacs and Dinos, Rocket Science Interactive, was a bit of an oddity when it came to developers. I remember an article from (venerable and defunct) Next Generation magazine, detailing an interview they did with them: Their attitude towards developing was like that of being a rock star. They took the reporters into their offices, bragged about how cool it was, the modern approach, decor, etc. They also showed storyboards, posters, cardboard models of vehicles and promotional material for Loadstar: Legend of Tully Bodine, loud and proud of their production values. Then the NG reporters said "That's very cool, guys, but where is the game?" and the devs just turned to look at each other, dumbfounded. There's a reason why their games were commercial failures.
@roberto15193 жыл бұрын
The arcade version was never ported to consoles, maybe only recently via emulation on PS4, PC etc, if, instead of this horrible FMV thing, we got the arcade game, that would be so awesome. This game is much better than Final Fight, while not as classic.

Beyond The Limit had fantastic modes: one where your try to recreate real life events (bookended by video clips of the real life 1993 season) and the championship mode where you meet team personnel and all driver changes happened at the same time as real life. Heck, the Ligier team even had one car with unique livery at the Japanese Grand Prix, just as it did in real life! A shame that the handling is so stiff, plus the overtake button allows you to easily win most tracks (UK version at least). You could unlock a video player at the end of the game and watch all the real life clips in one place! Star Wars Chess' biggest issue was that the 3D board is at a funny angle, making it hard to see where your pieces are. I played it most in the optional top-down view. There's a PC version of this game too.

Yes id like to see more content like this. You do very well and you seem very well schooled on retro gaming. 😊

That basket ball seems to build on being in the groove and with the flow. Also with the special perspective it holds from beginning to end really makes it an attention grabber while it is a niche title

Nice concept for a video, would be nice to see similar videos for other consoles( not only Sega)

As a huge 90s formula one fan I can confirm formula one championship is an amazing f1 sim on the Sega cd, with tons of features.

Poor Sega CD, if they really made more appealing exclusive content, taking advantage of the unlimited space compared to carts it had, much more sound channels, more hardware to add even better visuals, instead doing of lazy ports and bad FMV content.

@ammonitida I have a bit of nostalgia for Mad Dog McCree and some specific memories with this game back then, a few FMV games were a nice and different way to experience games, but they went too far with this, and a lot of Genesis ports with CD audio, FMV content, etc, there was much more they could do with the hardware.

Look at the environment more and notice that it's real 3D being pulled off on it.

You know, I find it funny that the sega cd has 2 extremes for football, Barely did anything (Bill Walsh) and possibly did a little too much (Joe Montana's NFL Football)

Joe Montana's NFL Football on the Sega CD might be my most played football game. I played that game a ton when I was a kid.
