This is my heart song, my fight song. I’m 28, disabled, been overly sheltered and kept inside my entire life. This is the year i start to break away. I’m not mad at my mother and father. I just want to live.

The “I’m leaving out today” really hits hard. My friend who took his life said that on his last Facebook post and when I heard them play this song live I was smiling and crying. I know he would’ve loved to see one of his favorite bands. We all miss you man

My dad was very neglected by his mom and would get bounced back and forth between his mom and dad. He listened to this song as he cut her off and then told me he was going to be a better parent than his mom could ever be. He was gone out of my life for 6 years(it wasn't his choice to be forced because of my mom). When he came back, I was 10. That was 6 years ago and me and my dad and I are closer than ever. I come back to this song because it reminds me I have an amazing parent who did everything to find me again and be there for me.

When I was little I always ran away from home. My mom and sister would follow me and laugh, because I wasn’t allowed to cross the street. So I would call my grandma and she would come pick me up. As years went by grandma told me at probably around 16,” what are you afraid of? You know how to look both ways” always go after your dreams! Be with people who support your goals, you can have anything and be anything if you want it bad enough ❤️I don’t have grandma to run away to anymore, but she is still telling me I can do it.

Your grandma was a good and wise woman. I wish I had someone in my life to cheer me on. I’m 29 now and still in my living situation, sheltered, without a job. Low on hope. Your post of your grandma’s words have given hope. Thank you. 🫂❤

i feel like i can't tell my parents what i really want to d/what my interests are... I just can't, they'll say that I'm not going to be anything. When I wanted to a photography contest they said no, because tehy said 'there are better photographers there' and' you never expressed a liking for this before (dad said that)' The reason why i never say so is because I can't. Because my humour isn't understood and belittled, because you don't let me go into the world, because you stop me from doing anything... So maybe goodbye is a second chance

*Even the man in the moon disappeared* I feel like that sometimes. Like your the only person in the world... I listen to this song when I’m feeling out of it, like not wanting to do nothing again and it always helps me. Like it’s a living miracle for me. Edit: Months later, after not having to resort to this, I had to come back, Life finally got sad enough for me that I just needed to hear these lyrics again. Listening to it and singing along, brought me to tears and I’m still not feeling fully myself, but this song always helps, even if it doesn’t help all the way. 2nd Edit: 8 months later... I had to come back... School stressed me out too much, I felt like nobody actually deeply cared for me. I don’t what it is about this song, it just makes me forget about anything and everything and fixes me so well. 3rd Edit: 2 years later. I forgot this song's name for quite some time but it just came back to me. School yet again got to me, and now I feel so alone. Then I hear this song and it feels like it's trying to give me a hug, but also makes me want to cry.

This song and simple man always gets me . 2 years ago on July 14th of 2016 my fiance passed away. It was a month before her 18th birthday , and she had just graduated a year early . The day before her funeral I heard this song and tears filled my eyes. It reminded me so much of her. And she loves Shinedown . So this became her song. For a while, it was hard to listen to without breaking down.. but I've gotten to a point in my life to where I've healed enough to enjoy the song and remember her happily. Rest easy Alexis Antoinette nickel I love you so much baby girl! Thank you Shinedown into the creator of this video, for helping me heal and remember my pretty girl without a heavy heart. 2 years clean and Counting! Never give up and above all, always let's the people you care about know you love them! always love!

This song is exactly me! Brings tears, yet gives me hope and inspires me. We HAD to say goodbye after 3 years because if we kept going the way we were, there would not even be a fragment left and it would have all been destroyed. After saying goodbye, we could see that we were way better than we were giving credit. And to tell my parents, after I told them what a toxic relationship I was in and having them encourage me to be strong enough to leave, now I find myself having to tell them how good she was and own up to my parts of what I did or didnt do to make it work. So this song says it... This is my life and I want happiness, and if they understand, great. If not, this is my life and I choose to seek happiness with her. (BTW, they are supportive and understanding). So now, as it says at 2:40 in this video.... Here is my chance... this is MY chance! It's up to me to screw it up. Sometimes goodbye IS a second chance!

Hey! I really liked what you had 2 say. I HATE my parents, they're the 1st 2 sell you out(Metaphorically) like they did with me, my sister and my boyfriend Edward Furlong just cause cause we were different, AND THAT is what has always pissed me off. Ever since Highschool all we've ever had is each other, and we know how 2 take care of ourselves, and thats what bugs parents cause as soon as they realize that you DON'T need them, they don't want anything 2 do with you. So I say we change that. Just because people DON'T understand you doesn't mean that it'll stop you from having your own life, and they sure as hell don't have a choice about who you fall in love with. NEVER EVER forget that.

I resort to music when living life just doesnt make sense anymore. it just numbs the pain and stalls me long enough until one day i'll just crack. [Update] I made this comment when i was 14 years old, now im 18 and life is still kinda hard for me i still use music as an escape. I am however in a mentally slightly better place when i listen to music and just trying to take each day one at a time. I hope you all are doing great and i wish you all the best.

5 years ago my mother committed suicide. We weren’t very well off financially, and we had about two CDs that’s she would play on repeat in the car. The vague memory of this song blaring out of the shitty stereo in our red Toyota carolla is most of what I have left of her. I never thought, looking back at this song it would hit me as hard as it has. It’s almost like she knew what she was doing. “Sometimes goodbye is a second chance.” These words...comforted me in such a strange way. It’s like someone talking to you beyond the grave, it really is. I don’t believe in a god, but at least I can find solace in knowing that wherever she is it’s better than where she was. With me. I love you most, mom. I won’t end up like you did. I promise.

Its because of how the human brain works and why music theory is so interesting, We are really good at noticing patterns and then predicting what comes next, Hence why you "know" the lyrics to a song you are hearing for the first time

Reminds me of summer 2009 .. I was 17 . I was a young mom living in West Virginia & moved back to Illinois & that's when I met my husband at my own house, trough my mom's boyfriend. my family was close then . I remember this song coming on...Now my mom died young early this year in March 2020 ..I would do almost anything to go back to those days & sit around that table laughing with my family & my mom there again. This song puts me right back there...

I dedicate this song to a friend of mine who goes to school with me, she’s a fan of Shinedown and this last school year she was going thru sometough times. A message for her if she sees this comment: I hope this next year becomes better for you, I know you were going through some rough times this last year and I hope next year if so much better. I’ll always be your friend no matter what. This next year is a second chance to have a better year.

Suicide is always an option, but it never solves anything and it dont always work, if you sit and think, if the person you love tries it your gonna be sad but life will always get better. You'll have your highest ups, you'll have your lowest downs but there's always someone out there that will love you and give anything to have you in their lives. If you're depressed go outside and meet new people because there's someone whos went through the worst of the worst that is the happiest person alive. SIMPLY BECAUSE THEY MAKE THE MOST OF LIFE. It ain't the years in your life its the life in your years

Hadn’t heard this song in years, but it came on the radio today and brought tears to my eyes. I’m just running in place and can’t seem to find a meaning right now, like I’m just going through the motions of life but achieving nothing. We have to stop chasing happiness and instead embrace the experiences we have as they come along naturally. The song made me think back to elementary school when all of my brother’s friends and I would just have a good time and hang out whenever we had a chance, playing baseball, hide n’ seek, call of duty. We were just enjoying every moment of life together, taking it slow, but now with social media and lack of interaction, we are all losing touch with that part of our lives that we enjoyed. On the rare occasion when we are able to hangout and just simply throw a frisbee around, it feels like the good old days and time just seems to slow down. We all need to get back to a time in our lives when we just slowed down and enjoyed the moments, and stop worrying about everything in life. If we worry about everything, we experience nothing.

This song, like other's brings a feeling that I call a soothing sadness. Something that makes you ponder your life and your choices, but to be content with them- even your mistakes, because they in a manner of speaking helped shape the wonderful soul that you have became along the way. Flaws and all. It reminds me of a quote I made in my highschool years : "It is our imperfections that each make us unique in our own right."

I don’t know who reads these comments, but I’ll tell you, pls think twice before you even think about suicide or ending your life in any which way possible. I’m here to tell you life’s hard and not fair at times. I know this firsthand. Been abused physically as a kid, mentally and bullied all my life and being kind is what I remain to this day. I’ve been suicidal all my life and realizing this only makes me more tough and willing to work hard to not to do this. I grew up way too early. And I’m sure lots of you also. This just makes you so much more powerful and a warrior. I never had a chance to make a childhood dream. I only looked out for my family and my younger brother until he was murdered in cold blood fashion. This tore me to pieces, but I’m living both of us and hoping one day I’ll see him and my dad in heaven. KEEP PUSHING FORWARD TO BE THE BEST YOU CAN AND STAY STRONG AS THE WARRIOR YOU ARE PPLS!!! Love you all. 🤘🏽💪🏿
