My Walmart Pharmacy employee was very rude to me when I called to renew my pain meds for the first time. This was around day 10. So I decided to quit that stuff and also quit WALMART too. ALEVE was just as helpful. My doctor was very pleased at my followup visit. I hope you are progressing quickly. Thankuou for the video.

I understand about the hassles of getting those meds refilled. I am glad you are doing well and hope and pray you continue to improve. I am doing great now and enjoying my new knees. It took a good year to really get over the surgery on my knees and that was the doctor told me it would take. But it is now 2 years since my first knee and 1-1/2 since my second knee. The clicking in the knees was weird but it goes away too as everything gets stronger and the swelling goes away. I have to edit some videos I did of a trip I took to a state park and walked down to the bottom of a waterfall and back up. The knees worked great. :)

I have had my right TKR on August 1st. 2022. Today is October 4th. I have my left knee scheduled for November 7th, next month. The only thing I can think of that could of been worse is both done at the same time. I am so glad I was talked out it. I have a wonderful helpmate ( my wife ). She is a saint. We sat and slept in our recliners ( electric ) to assist getting out of my chair ( bought used just for the knee replacements. ). I have been setting in a recliner and sleeping in one for about six years. Two weeks after my first surgery I wanted to try my bed out? I now love my bed and currently I believe I will sleep in recliner for the first two weeks. Gary thanks for sharing, hang in there neighbor. Remember THE HEALER JESUS HE IS THE HEALER. He will hold your hand if you allow Him and don't forget to hug Him, blessings.

I am glad you are doing well. My doctor would not do both mine at the same time and I am glad he didn't. Having one leg to help with the other seems so much better. I thought about doing mine 12 weeks apart but after the first one I told him I would wait until the fall. Had the first in March and the second in Sept. My wife wanted a break too. She was caring for me and her elderly mother at the time of my first surgery. So it was a lot on her. I have had comments from others in the past about getting a TKR and living alone. That would be so hard to do and would require so much preparation beforehand. I hope and pray your knee continues to improve and your second one goes well too. Yes, Jesus watches over us all and helps ease our minds to the pains of this world. Take care and thanks for sharing your progress. Gary

You are amazing to go through this again! I have been following you from your first knee replacement. My husband had his knee replacement 2 weeks ago. It has been a struggle to get him to complete his exercises because he is in do much pain. I feel bad for him but I need to hide it so he will at least try. Thank you for sharing your recovery. You are giving us hope that life will be better in a few months.
@GaryForgingOn2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for that. I really appreciate it. It hurts. No doubt about it. And he will have to do like I did and just huff and puff and blow a lot and force it through the pain. As long as he is getting the movement. It would be worse if his knee seized up with scar tissue. My wife had a tough time watching me . There were times she actually walked a few steps off. It was ok she showed me that it hurts her too to watch. My wife had a tough time sometimes and I completely understood. She knew and I knew that I had to do it. But he will get better soon. It took me 4 to 5 weeks to hit that turning point. But I won't lie. Those first 2 weeks are miserable. He has the worst part behind him now. He will do well. I usually only did one set of exercises at home. I skipped some and I actually went down on my progression at physical therapy. So he needs to push through the pain and do a set every day if he can. I didn't do home exercises on days I went PT. I could never push it as hard as the therapist would but I would blow and huff in pain doing them. When I did them daily I got better a lot faster. If you have any particular questions please don't hesitate to ask. You all will do great and I hope and pray it all heals great. Mine is still sore but I can do whatever now at 12 weeks. It will still be sore for months but it's ok.

Hi…UK 🇬🇧 viewer here. I had a left knee TKR in January 22 and the first few weeks after surgery were not pleasant at all. As you say, after about four weeks you start to see some improvement and take less meds which was great. My right knee is now showing the same symptoms as my left knee did which makes me fear I may have to go through it all again. I will do all I can not to have another TKR but there comes a point when it’s the only answer. Good luck with your recovery 👍🇬🇧

Thank you Alan, I am doing a lot better. My second knee is still sore when I go up and down stairs but all in all it is better. I notice I can walk a lot more and me on my feet more. I still get sore and tired but it is not like that "bone on bone" pain and I can just sit down for a little while and go again, where as before I was usually done for a couple days. My right knee was damaged but using my left knee so much to compensate caused me to just wear it out. I hope and pray your knee will be okay but if you do have another you will know what to expect. Gary, thank you for posting the series of videos on your 1st & 2nd knee replacements! You have helped me! I’m 61, retired psychologist. Had my R. Knee replaced 13 days ago at Williamson Medical Center/Franklin, TN through Bone & Joint Institute. I’m having my L knee replaced when I recover from the right knee. Pain. Never experienced this level of pain over so Many days straight. I am on pain medication still. PT is rough. However, I am really glad I did it. Your videos make me feel less alone. My husband is wonderful, at work every day, and tries to assist! He has even cooked for me…lol! I don’t know when you had your knees replaced, however I pray you are doing very well now!!! Blessings 🌼

Thank you for the kind words. I had my first knee (right) replaced in March 2022 and my second knee replaced in Sept 2022. They are doing really good now. Between both of those and my right hip replacement in 2019 I can now walk without pain or limping or twisting. The knees are worst but you will get there. Just keep up those meds and PT sessions. Williamson is supposed to do great work. I went to the Franklin bone and joint years ago before they got bought out by Vanderbilt. They did some orthoscopic work on my knees and told me I needed replacements. I live near Murfreesboro and I had all my surgeries through Elite sports medicine at Centennial . I am glad you have some good support. I am 63 and glad I had them all done. Hang in there and it will get better. I hope and pray you continue to heal well and your pain eases. He told me it has not fully healed and will take a year. Glad yours is going well. I just hit my 3rd week and I am off the walker and getting off the pain meds. Trying to go to just tylenol. I know the feeling you are going through. I was going to get my second one 12 weeks after the first. Then after the first I told the doc I was going to wait for a while. I had the first in March and the second on Sept 12. I'm glad I waited just because it gave my first knee more time to heal. But I also had more time to worry about it all. I will definitely agree on the first 2 weeks.. They are the roughest. I actually fell like I hit my turning point with the 1st knee at 4-1/2 weeks. It was overnight that I could sit with my leg down for hours without it aching and needing ice. I know we all heal different. I know one lady that was still on her walker and not even able to bend it 90 degrees after 7 weeks. and another lady was in her garden picking peppers and cooking after 1 or 1-1/2 weeks. I guess I am more in the middle. Therapy helps a lot too. I hope and pray all goes well with your recovery and your second replacement. Take care and I wish you a full and successful recovery. Gary

Thank you for the suggestion. I really appreciate it. Since I made this video it is now been 3 weeks and I am off my walker finally. The seat riser was probably a better option. Thanks. My walker is wider than a normal one and i can pull it around me and the seat and then I use those lower bars to lower myself with my arms. I actually kick out my leg with the new knee so I don't put any weight on it. I do the same to get up again. Now that i am without a walker. I still put my leg out to keep weight off that knee but I put my hand back on the seat and help lower and raise myself. It's weird but it does help. New ones were about 300 or more back when I got my shoulder done. I keep 12 plastic bottles frozen in the freezer and rotate out 4 at a time. They thaw out faster than they freeze so that is why I use 3 sets. The bottles cannot be too high. About the height of a 16.9 ounce coke bottle. fill them about 3/4 full and freeze them. Mine are all Breg's polar care cube. Then they have the attached end. Put a small towel between the pad and skin. I used a thin t-shirt with my shoulder and got frostbite. they stay cold about 4 hours or so then you just swap out the bottles and keep going.

I got Covid! I feel a bit under the weather but nothing too bad I still try and get out walking the dogs and keep moving the knee. I go back next month to see my surgeon again and hopefully I get on the list for my left. @@GaryForgingOn thank you for responding, I asked him about the socks and he said I must wear them just wish they would go up a size for me they are a pain.I really was not sick when I went in for my tkr, so it was upsetting to be dealing with both at the same time.I know they said this would be hard I was just not prepared to be so sick after surgery from covid.I had not had it the whole time the virus came out.and I was inside the house alot before surgery.Its been really hard.I would opt out of compression socks all together.Thank you for helping others like myself who need to know the different stages of this surgery.it gives real life perspective.

This has made me me even more apprehensive than I already am. Going for right TKR in three weeks, after almost 9 years of struggles. So, ordering the rental for ice machine through the surgeon’s office, I’m guessing for two weeks for $500. (no private insurance) and buying a walker, unless rental is available. Another site suggested a toilet seat booster. I live in a two story house, laundry room in the basement, do I lug the walker up and down the stairs? How do I do that? Omg…This will be worst than the two separate shoulder surgeries, where I was one armed for almost six months at a time and hubby being no help whatsoever. Lord help us…

Oh, so sorry you are having so much to worry with. Look to see if you can buy a used Breg polar Ice cube machine. I had rotator cuff surgery in 2018 and all the videos I watched and people I talked to said I had to get the ice pump but my insurance would not pay for it. It was $300 - $350 back then to buy one new. Just get it with the knee pad attachment or a universal pad. I am glad I bought it. Get about 12 empty bottles like water bottles or empty coke bottles. About the 16.9 ounce size and fill them 3/4 and put them in the freezer. It is way better than dealing with ice all the time. Put in 4 and wiggle the lid on and it works great. You need 12 because 4 will last 3 or 4 hours but they will not refreeze before you need them again so having 3 sets works best. I used my ice pump machine way more than 2 weeks and it was a life saver. It helped so much with the pain. Our toilet is a taller one. I think they call it a comfort height which is taller than a regular one but less than a handicap. I think anyway. Not real sure. Getting around will be very slow but I would not try to take the walker up and down stairs unless you had a second one on the other level or someone could carry it for you. I go up and down stairs to my basement but I don't have to so I didn't for a week or so. It is just slow. I would think just keeping the walker on the main floor and when you get upstairs or down just hang onto the rails and wall and slowly go to wherever you need. Just my thoughts. I am not exactly sure on your setup so use your best judgement on that. I hope and pray you do well. Don't be apprehensive. You will do great. And after a few weeks you would be off the walker anyway. maybe 3 if you progress well enough. Do the therapy, as you well know, and don't try to do too much that first week or 2 if you can help it. Take care and you got this. Gary

@@GaryForgingOn, thank you so much! I saw a video where they strongly suggested pre and post op strengthening exercises for the quad muscles and I do them throughout the day. At least I’ve stopped screaming at every step I take. I’m glad I have an ice-maker on my fridge door, one less worry. Best wishes on your recovery, Gary❣️

@@linato1855 thank you. Those exercises will help. You will not regret getting it done once you get past some of the initial healing and therapy.

What’s ur age range Gary. I’m 53 and know I have to get mine done this year. I think by early fall I’ll schedule it.

I am 63 now. I was 62 when I had both knees done but I turned 63 right after the second one. Nice birthday present to myself. LOL When I was in my late 40s and early 50s they said I needed them replaced but to wait as long as I could. I was told when I got these that if I had them replaced 10 or more years ago they would have only lasted about 10 years or less. But now the new knee joints will last around 20 years. I should have had mine done sooner because I limped and twisted from my bad hip and knee on the same right leg that I had a lot of atrophy in my right leg and wore my left knee out. That was why I had that one replaced. So it is a double edged sword in that if you wait you will likely not have to do it over again but if you don't wait you wear out everything more. It is painful to get through but even after 6 weeks I could tell I was able to work better. And now I can go on longer walks and, even though they get sore and tired because they are still healing, not be in as much pain as I used to be when i was bone on bone. I hope and pray you do well and have a successful recovery.
