What a ridiculous thing to say! It’s not really upto the employee to find that balance because the power dynamics in employer-employee relationship does not give them that leverage. The employer can fire you if they can find someone who’d work overtime for free if you choose not to. What’s needed is legal enforcement. Labour laws. And employee rights.

I worked at EY, and I know the harsh reality there. It's a nightmare for most employees. I encountered harassment, extreme pressure, discrimination, and bias at EY. I reported this horrific experience to the EY ethics team, but instead of providing a solution, they closed the case and continued to target and harass me. The EY ethics forum is completely useless. I also reported the issue to CEO Carmine Di Sibio, Rajiv Memani, Sreekanth Arimanithaya, and Jaya Virwani, providing all the evidence-emails, call records, chat screenshots, etc.-but rather than responding with empathy, they blocked me on all social media platforms. They concealed the issue and closed the case. This has been a truly traumatizing experience, and I do not recommend EY to anyone. Imagine the trauma and anxiety I have endured. If you report any incident, they won’t take action; they don’t value human life. They only respond when a fatal incident goes viral.

Disagree Palaki. When you say others reasons are responsible such as not exercising and consumption of junk food. We should be honest in our analysis to say work is the reason. When employees come home at 9pm or 10pm where will they have the energy left to exercise and cook food? That takes anywhere between 2-3 hours. Then how can we expect people to get enough sleep. These youngsters are set up for failure. Let work end at 6pm. Then there is a chance for them to lead a healthy lifestyle. If someone wants to work overtime it is their choice. Most people aren't in the office till 9pm beacuse they want to be. Its beacuse they have to be.

It's time for Indians to break free from this bubble and relax. Lecturing the employees is the easier option. In these days, when the labour unions are at their weakest, and the enforcement of labour laws is dismal, the employees are at the employer's mercy. There is always the fear of being laid off or dismissed. Employers must assume responsibility for gradually inducting the new employees to the work culture of their organisation, not throw truck load of work at new employees who are mostly young and have no experience in life, much less in managing pressures.

There are so many youth, easily 2-3 ppl can take up the work. Its just toxic management. The HR knows but they wont do anything, atleast see the attrition rate among teams and particular managers.

Labour laws & minimum wages amendments are very poor in India. Moreover our minister giving useless suggestion on working overtime rather than increasing efficiency of work . Workers are easily replaceable for low wages in India due to overpopulation so more people are going to die in future & nobody cares as they are immediately replaceable.

With abnormally long working hours, where is the time to sleep enough and exercise? Add family responsibility and you have no time for yourself. Laying the onus on the employees is not the solution. What about better laws and employee rights?

2:11 working long hours means employees making up for organizational inefficiency, that's not innovation thats grunt work. If you are really doing innovative meaningful work for 10 hrs per day you can be rest assured to be close To likes multi millionaire entrepreneur easily.

MORE PPL DIE FROM WORK PRESSURE THAN THE 2 DEATHS THAT CAUGHT THE PUBLIC RADAR. But when asked the cause of death, we are given pet answers like:- Unhealthy lifestyle, undiagnosed blah blah, smoking and drinking, junk food. These are all enabler not causes. Causes are stress, work pressure, uneven work life balance and much more

I worked the work of 3 ppl(who quit during peak of corona) + my own job. 6 months later my manager too quit citing health issues, and guess who's health was put into jeopardy trying to handle his manager's work as well? Yes, your's truly. Didn't get increased increment or promotion despite 5 awards and highest performance in my team. I finally quit when enough was enough. The forkers were wanting me to once again take a new role and 6 months into that will they evaluate and see if i deserve a promotion.

Palki Sharma, this was not expected from you that workers have to draw the line. It appears you are supporting the toxic corporate culture, you have not spoken about the other side of the coin, labour laws, in India and other countries like US, Australia. Seems you are paid off by corporates. We can never listen to your anchoring as we used to before as it is realised that it's is no more unbiased.

The politicians who have an easy life for themselves and their children can claim big things! We should ask their Bureaucrats how easy their life is working for these politicians and how well are they coping with work stress? Let us know about their health situations too😂 ask them if they feel like slaves of these politicians who claim that the general public can’t cope with stress! And then why do other countries have better work culture and happier lives leading a higher standard of living? 😎😜can’t cope with stress? We are already coping well with foolish and spineless politicians who have made a mess out of this beautiful country!

Adding to this ,there is another area similar to this needing attention. I am a clinical psychologist. One of my patient came to me with depression. She was going through academic stress and which turned into depression. My patient used to get assignments from teachers, most of the days,at night around 8pm via whatsapp. Eg: To make notes from a 30 page pdf etc.And similar assignments would have given by other teachers as well. Many students finishes them without sleeping .But being an ambitious student, she could not cope up with stress. Now you tell me,what are these students get from school and how can they overcome the stress...Usage of whatsapp for communication by teachers has many psychological aspects of causing tension... Even if they come home, they can't feel rested at home.If this situation continues, and government doesn't make policies, this will definitely be catastrophic.

I have now been working for 38 years. After the first 3 months of training, I have worked for anywhere between 10 to 11 hours per day. I have never seen work as a load. I have enjoyed winning deals, losing orders, snubbed, felicitated and every emotion one can have. One point in time I was reporting to two worst managers who made my life miserable. Never thought I should throw in the towel. Don't know what stuff this gen z, y are made of mentally.
