This video was extremely valuable to me (and I’m sure others), please continue to post more like these! I really enjoyed how you took the time to show and explain the wiring schematics and how certain things could be tested with or without a bidirectional scan tool. I very much appreciate how you took the time to show the live data and explain what we should be looking at, I just bought myself my first bidirectional scanner and as a novice DIY’er I have a hard time understanding all the live data that it gives me… Also, where can a DIY’er get the explanation that you showed us on your screen of how the secondary air system operates, that too was extremely helpful. Thanks again

The videos are always worth it no matter how simple the fix because we get to see the proper thought process of how to troubleshoot a problem. You even took the time to show people that don't have bidirectional controls how to troubleshoot all three relays or components.

I chased the same intermittent code on my '05 Chevy Trailblazer. About twice a year this code would set. All the fuses, relays, air pump and wiring checked out ok. I couldn't reproduce the problem. After two years of chasing this code, I discovered the solenoid was sticking. It would work 97% of the time. I replaced it with an AC/Delco part and haven't had any more problems.

I really don't hardly make any comments, but this was one of the most thorough, professional troubleshooting videos I have seen. It's interesting to hear you say, "could it really be that easy," as you literally tracked down every single possible source of the code, and then continued to address problems after you found the most likely source. I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge. I just wish I had a professional scan tool like that. Thank you for the video.

I missed ya big guy. I think the evidence of rust and corrosion proves water intrusion. Sounds like others shot the parts cannon here but, you being a gentlemen, did not point fingers. Thanks for sharing Will, puts a different perspective on trouble shooting. I suppose everything could have been tested using a power probe. Maybe next time you can troubleshoot it the hard way, using test lights, then prove it with the scanner. Lol. Just a suggestion.

great diagnostic routine if you have time. in a busy shop, when you see a new computer, new air control valve and new pump, you should go straight for the relay, disconnect it and check the terminals if you don't see any corrosion. spending 30 minutes on-camera alone makes me think that those new parts were most likely replaced by the same person here.

@billyyoder8171
@billyyoder8171 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Doug. The purpose of the secondary air injection system is to help reduce hydrocarbon emissions during cold start. During cold start, the fuel system control is in open loop for a few seconds. The fuel air mixture will be rich because the ECM will not be fine tuning the fuel control (trims). The secondary air injection will allow added air (oxygen) into the exhaust stream to mix with the extra fuel in the exhaust (that did not burn in the cylinders). This will give the catalytic converter(s) enough air to allow the extra fuel to create the catalytic effect which will allow the catalytic converter(s) to heat up quicker. This will help lower the emissions quicker/sooner. The testing procedure he is describing in the video is how the ECM/PCM does a self test of the secondary air injection system. During closed loop, the oxygen sensors are signalling normally and the fuel system is controlled by the ECM/PCM (trims). If the secondary air injection system is working properly, the ECM/PCM expects to see the oxygen sensors voltage drop (go lean) when extra air is pumped straight into the exhaust stream. Note, if the vehicle is equipped with AFR sensors instead of oxygen sensors, the AFR sensors voltage will go up when the extra oxygen leans the exhaust stream. Hope this helps.

@billyyoder8171
@billyyoder8171 5 жыл бұрын
@@bigfootemobileauto9734 hi Doug. You are correct. Regular narrow band oxygen sensors voltage goes down when lean, up when rich. Wide band (A/F ratio) sensor data will show voltage or amperage (or display both) doing the opposite.

I have replaced everything, check valves, pump motor, vacuum solenoid, hoses and still getting p0410. When I look at live data at startup and i look at air injection commanded status it says “UPS” after 30-45 seconds it turns off like it should and then commanded status says “off”. Name is Jose Haro. I’ve inspected everything, power, grounds, resistance but only thing I haven’t inspected are the O2 sensors, Can these cause a P0410 if there response in reading the oxygen amount at cold start? Please help

He probably uses a professional system for his wiring diagrams such as Alldata or Mitchell On Demand. These require subscription fees. For us amateurs, a good source of free wiring diagrams is BBBIndustries available on the Internet.

Could you help me? I have a code P 0418? I replaced the secondary air injection valve and the oxygen sensor and it keeps giving me the code. It goes away for a moment and then appears again.

Hey Will, have really enjoyed all of your vids. Would like to find out what your thoughts are on the 2015 z71 4x4 Silverado. My first 4x4 and am just curious what your thoughts are about the truck itself. Mine has approximately 72k on it at present and the trans fluid along with the rear, front diff, and transfer case have not been changed out. Do you feel it is critical to change these out soon. Thanks ahead for your response.

look up Innovative Products of America terminal cleaners. They make several styles of tools for that purpose and they work great, in addition to being affordable. Several sites sell their products.
