A central element of the cell-based model of coagulation is that clotting factors don’t just interact with each other loosely in plasma, but mostly bind to the cell surface. This is clinically relevant because this mechanism can be selectively inhibited with vitamin K antagonists to reduce blood coagulability. An example of a vitamin K antagonist is warfarin.
