Secret Invasion reviews are out and if you're Disney Marvel you'd be cowering under a table right now. MCU shows on Disney+ have been very well reviewed critically regardless of customer opinion, but Secret Invasion marks the continuation of a downward trend. Just 2 episodes in and Secret Invasion reviews are already calling it slow alongside a raft of more severe commentary. And while many compliment Samuel L Jackson in his return as Nick Fury, others suggest he too may be finding the series a step too far. It's a shame because I was looking forwards to this. It's the show I thought had the most potential, but as the clips were revealed, the caution set it. And the critic reviews of Secret Invasion just confirmed my first impressions. That this MCU Disney+ show, is just like all the others. But what do think about what you've seen? Let me know your thoughts down below and as always, thanks for watching :)

It was Jed Whedon, Maurissa Tancharoen, and Jeffrey Bell that carried the series and made it better with every season, IMO. These folks *cared* about the source material and it showed.

Just like Black Widow, they don't know what stories to tell. Black Widow dies in the main timeline of the movies before getting her solo movie. That's a shit move. But even so, they could've had a Clint Barton/Natasha Romanoff spy-action flick. But they went for family-melodrama because apparently thats the only thing women can relate to. Especially after Winter Soldier and Civil War, Secret Invasion is null and void without Iron Man, Hulk, and Captain America. That's it.

I've read the Secret Invasion comics. It was built on the back of its predecessor event - The 50 State Initiative - which was built on the back of the original Marvel Civil War. In the aftermath of MCW, Steve Roger's surrendered to SHIELD (and was assassinated). SHIELD implemented the 50 State Initiative, giving every State in the US a SHIELD-sponsored superhero team. This is the world that the Skrull Secret Invasion takes root in. This is not the status of the world in the MCU. Secret Imvasion CANT draw from the books. Their world is too small.

Secret Invasion was done very well in the Avengers: Earth's mightiest heroes TV show. God, I miss that show. It was a masterpiece. And the reason for it being so good was they adopted some of the best stories from the comics. MCU showrunners should take some notes.

There used to be this thing called the “Creative Committee”. Actual comic creators that understood the stories and would help the movie people cherry pick the right parts of the stories to maintain the context and integrity of what was being presented. It was also said that they helped keep the characters ‘in character’. Apparently that is no more. 😢

Secret Invasion would have worked if all the OG Avengers were part of it, like they were in the comics. This whole storyline screams “too little, too late”. They could have written it as everything tying back to Thanos. He could have hired them to impersonate important people to throw Earth and other planets into chaos, so he could be seen as a hero, but the Avengers stop it, which could have led up to the events of Infinity War.

No. Marvel died when the comics started to try being more like the MCU. The last creative impact Stan Lee had on any Marvel media was giving a few suggestions to Bryan Singer when making the first X-Men movie such as making the costumes black. Aside from some specific parts of Wandavision, mosty with Wanda's character at the very end and how the show portrays her logic and rationale, I still think it's a pretty good show all things considered. That show did have episodic intrigue going forward far more than I ever felt with any other D+ product.

When I read those comics I had no idea who was a Skrull and who wasn’t. If this was being made after a hypothetical mass firing of bad writers, it might have had a better chance at being good.

It was MCU producer Nate Moore who said (on Matt Belloni's podcast) that they don't like hiring writers who know anything about Marvel comics. Asked if they put the writers through a boot camp of learning about what they need to know to adapt the comics, he said not really. Er. So if that's their approach, why are they even bothering to adapt the comics in the first place?

Gives them a known IP as a starting point to draw people in. These people want to make shows no one wants to see so need a known IP as a base. It worked initially because they hadn't messed up every single one they got their hands on like now. Now we know they won't use source material and make such a mess there's few left who'll be sucked in by the IP name. Maybe a few but after an episode or maybe 2 they'll dip out. Like hate watching worked for 5 minutes. Problem is HW is slow to accept they've got it wrong nor worked out they're not calling the shots anymore like when they were the only choice we had. Writers striking when viewers all hate their writing is proof of that.

I don't see the "slow" in the series, sure the storytelling can be criticized but I found the first episode to be actually very fast-paced for an espionage flick. If I recall correctly, Civil War was slower than this, yet that didn't make it a bad movie. I fail to see how the "slow" pace is considered (or as one among) the main flaw(s) from critiques.

Spooks or MI5 in the states was an amazing show! The seath of some of the main charecters were so brutal and shocking that it left me feeling heavy and stunned at times. Danny's departure was actually totally intense and genuinly gripping tv. They dont make shows like that anymore. Race didnt matrer, sex didnt matter, and no one was safe.
