as i've gotten older, i think i've come to find that it isn't the parents that are at fault - it's us. we feel so far away from them, and we think we can't talk to them, but most of the time, it's our angst that estranges us from them. we feel distant, because we create the distance.. don't get me wrong, i've got my fair share of secrets, it'd be impossible not to as an eighteen year old. but i think with time, i've become much more likely to open up and say things, even though I know my mother won't react in a pleasant way. parental relationships are like any other - there's ugly parts. (friendships, romantic relationships/marriage, co-workers/bosses) , there's no such thing as perfect. seeing this video made me stop for a second and see how far i've come. i was a cutter, too, and i was found out. forced to go to a shrink. it sucked. but im so blessed to be here today, and to finally understand the reality of things. to all the other teens out there, watching this video, its okay. just try your best to find your way back home, once the experiments are done and you're tired of all the dark stuff. give love in order to receive it. xoxo, cynthia

That is normal. Parents spend thousands upon thousands of dollars on their children during the first 18 years of their lives and just giving birth to them is expensive. Children should be thanking their parents for everything they do, not getting money for things they should be doing to help out in the household. Kids are spoiled these days that get money

Sometimes when you feel lonely, you have no one to talk or be with. It can sometimes lead to depression, doing crazy stuff at such a young age.

Jeanae story really did touch me. When she started crying an her mom was so shocked when she read it, i started sobbing. I myself do not really do anything that my mum doesn't want me to do, because she is lind over-protective. but i am so glad she is, because if she wasn't i do not what crazy things i'd get up to.

Same reason people tend to laugh and joke a lot more after a death in their family, it's them trying to stay strong because they're in such pain and disbelief. Also, the actions of your facial muscles forming into a smile releases endorphins in the brain which triggers you to feel happier. They're subconscious actions that we all preform.

To all you girls out there that do drugs and cut yourself somehow feel better about yourself, your just taking a easy pass to temporay relief. You are worth so much more than this. You will never no how much youre loved. These things hurt the people that you love or the ones that love you the most. You were made with a purpose. You are beautiful in your own way. You don't need any stupid person to tell you who you are and who you're not. You're worth so much more than all that crap. I'd write

You are exactly right. And it is a defense mechanism. It is also hard for teenagers to portray their feelings and experiences the same way that adults express themselves. People keep forgetting that teenagers are teenagers not adults. They are still developing in many different ways, especially mentally. Just because they look like adults and talk like adults does not make them adults.

Of course she sounds like a robot. When you're depressed (which she obviously is), you have to numb yourself to everything or you drown in self pity and cry your eyes out whenever you allow your mind to wander. That's exactly how I sound whenever I have to explain my depression to anyone.

I used to be like her, but then I realized that I'm just throwing my life away on something that could kill me at any moment. And I'm 16 now. I haven't picked up any alcohol or drugs in over a year. I didn't do that stuff for very long, but you know its time to stop when you almost lose someone very close to you, doing the same things you are. People make mistakes, but a lot of them don't learn from them.
