as i've gotten older, i think i've come to find that it isn't the parents that are at fault - it's us. we feel so far away from them, and we think we can't talk to them, but most of the time, it's our angst that estranges us from them. we feel distant, because we create the distance.. don't get me wrong, i've got my fair share of secrets, it'd be impossible not to as an eighteen year old. but i think with time, i've become much more likely to open up and say things, even though I know my mother won't react in a pleasant way. parental relationships are like any other - there's ugly parts. (friendships, romantic relationships/marriage, co-workers/bosses) , there's no such thing as perfect. seeing this video made me stop for a second and see how far i've come. i was a cutter, too, and i was found out. forced to go to a shrink. it sucked. but im so blessed to be here today, and to finally understand the reality of things. to all the other teens out there, watching this video, its okay. just try your best to find your way back home, once the experiments are done and you're tired of all the dark stuff. give love in order to receive it. xoxo, cynthia

That is normal. Parents spend thousands upon thousands of dollars on their children during the first 18 years of their lives and just giving birth to them is expensive. Children should be thanking their parents for everything they do, not getting money for things they should be doing to help out in the household. Kids are spoiled these days that get money

Same reason people tend to laugh and joke a lot more after a death in their family, it's them trying to stay strong because they're in such pain and disbelief. Also, the actions of your facial muscles forming into a smile releases endorphins in the brain which triggers you to feel happier. They're subconscious actions that we all preform.

You are exactly right. And it is a defense mechanism. It is also hard for teenagers to portray their feelings and experiences the same way that adults express themselves. People keep forgetting that teenagers are teenagers not adults. They are still developing in many different ways, especially mentally. Just because they look like adults and talk like adults does not make them adults.
@MrNicoleCherie14 жыл бұрын
I used to do that. When i would burn smiley faces on my arms, it made me feel good, cause the warmth was like a hug and the pain stopped me from feeling bad. the pain felt so good. i didnt really get hugs. and sometimes i felt like i diserved the pain sometimes.

I used to be like her, but then I realized that I'm just throwing my life away on something that could kill me at any moment. And I'm 16 now. I haven't picked up any alcohol or drugs in over a year. I didn't do that stuff for very long, but you know its time to stop when you almost lose someone very close to you, doing the same things you are. People make mistakes, but a lot of them don't learn from them.

For those who don't know- Cutting releases endorphins, endorphins take away the pain, anger, and all that. What I also like about this girl she know a the names of the pills she knows what she is doing. I know she feels bad inside and the "friends" has aren't really her friends because they put her in that type of situation or if they cut they make it seem like it's ok.

i agree it doesnt mean theyre high but those who do SH aren't all anxious, paranoid, and constantly on edge... its sometimes just a coping mechanism for strong emotions (anger, guilt, etc.) or sudden bouts of them evoked by certain events. it doesnt have to be anxiety and it certainly doesn't make them paranoid and on edge, though some do get worried that people will see signs of SH on them. some of the worst SHers are the 1s that you least expect (i.e. the happiest or quiet nice ones)...

Wow, I'm ashamed to say that I was quite like this girl when I was fifteen. I used to smoke weed, pop pills and give myself smileys on my arms and hands.
