The white mum could just braid her daughters hair and do it every two weeks, wash it every week (as you can still wash your hair when it's braided with the braids still in) then she wouldn't have to do anything if she is really that "busy"; if she did that her hair would grow longer and more healthy, also when she gets to 16, the young girl could then choose what to do with her hair, then it should be nice and long and healthy, and would look good curly anyway....I know my mum was NEVER lazy with my hair even though it was a hassle to brush every morning.

Exactly! My mom wasn't the greatest with my hair which is the same texture as that girl's so she got her friends to braid it once in a while and that style looked so cute and lasted for a week. But I mostly had pigtails growing up.....how hard are pig tails! I really wish my hair was never permed though and love that Tyra spoke out about this. I love that black women are learning how to love their hair.

Those poor children. And I don't think they're scripted. I think they've been taught from early childhood that they are not pretty if they have "black hair" It's very sad.
@jenncutt85

I think what they should have asked these little girls is "Who told you that straight hair is pretty and nappy is ugly and bad?" I would put money on it that the first people they heard that crap from was their moms, aunts or grandmothers and that is just sad. As someone who is not black I personally think that the small dreadlocks, like the woman in part 1 had, look better then weaves, wigs and straightening natural hair... it just looks greasy. And I know this is going to come off bad because its just hair but anytime I see a black woman with the small dreadlocks I stereotype them as having higher intelligence, education, morals and self respect then women who wear wigs and weaves.

Even as a black person . When I seen a woman with locks I thought of her as having high intelligence, graceful , wisdom , approachable ! All the time and that’s before the black natural community became popular

I am puertorican with curly hair like the interacial black-latina girl but my hair has softer curls but is still pretty curly. My both parents have hair pretty straight. When I was about 7 or 8 my mom started taking me to the beauty twice a year to relax it. I think most curly hairs in general does not get the appreciation they deserve. Now i am 15 and I wear my curls high and proud.

Nope i heard it also. That is sad and lucky for me my family loves natural hair. Well my mom side. When i was little everyone loved my hair it full and curly (loose curls) when my mom permed my hair at 12 my family was pissed. But my family would braid it it up, twist it up, make it curly by coiling and many more styles. But now they are happy that i went back to natural. They say im like a doll because i have a roundish face, big baby doll brown eyes, curly hair and long lashes. I have been told by a guy friend i look like his little sister's baby doll. That was when i went natural and wore my curls down with a small clip on bow and i had on my purple polo sweater, courderoys, and black horse-riding styled boots. To this day i still get called a doll by anyone i know

I can't believe what those kids are going through!!! I'm biracial, korean/black, and my mom taught herself how to handle my unmanageable hair. And on top of that I have a twin so it double trouble. Never in my life I used a chemical relaxer but I do dye my hair, which I will never ever do again lol. It's all about taking the time to understand what YOUR hair needs. What works for one person might not work for you but never ever put someone down because they choose chemicals, weaves, or just being natural.

The funny thing is I usually only go to Korean women to do my hair! (I'm assuming your mom is Korean). And they did such a good job. A lot of the black hair dressers I went to always wanted to load my hair in grease but the Korean ladies put very little to no product (maybe heat protector) on my hair and it came out soooo nicely! :D Nowadays I rarely straighten my hair...I twist it at night with a light oil and some water (or I get my bf to do it..he is Chinese and I'm teaching him about my hair, hehehe). I also go to a black lady to straighten my hair and she does a great job too! Not a lot of greasy product. Also, when I say straighten, I mean flat iron.

All these little girls are precious angels. I am a Caucasian that is 65 years old and I feel for these little girls. When I was little my mother gave me two options if you wear your hair long I am going to put a frizzy perm in your hair but if you want to keep it straight then you have to have a boyish really short pixies cut. She gave me no options both sucked. This is what mothers do not realize.... the beauty routines done on these little girls has to do with the mothers sense of ego and they are not the least bit concerned about what the child wants. The dependency needs of the child are ignored and it may take until adulthood for these children to learn their wants and needs. Needless to say by the time I was 13 I would not let my mother touch my hair with a 10 foot pole. Ladies really listen to what your children are trying to say. God bless these precious little girls😇😇😇😇

White mama be trippin'. She's ashamed of her kid's hair. She can make all the excuses she wants. She's slacking and is the prime source of bullying, but she doesn't see it that way. My mama had ZERO time for my hair, but she whipped it into shape, anyway. I hadn't touched a hair dryer or straightener until my teens!
@words4244

So you're saying the white mom is ashamed of her daughter's hair because it's relaxed and she has a weave? Does that mean all the black women who relax their hair and wear weaves are ashamed of their hair? That would mean the majority of black women are ashamed of their hair. I think natural hair is pretty but hell let people decide to do whatever they want to do with their hair without shame.

A little girl that young who may be bullied at school for having black features is learning either that she is perfect just the way she is (and other people are just being racist) or she is learning to hate herself. I know I wouldn't want to instill self hatred in my girls' head. Too bad the mother already let that happen. And her mother before that. And hers before that. The cycle of self loathing needs to stop. Thank goodness Tyra is pointing out the pain this inflicts on the entire community.

Like i showed my little sister this video and told her that she is so lucky her mom is so against relaxing her hair. She is mixed race and her mom stepped up to the plate over the years as to style her hair and with me helping and giving tips makes it easy. now she is almost 13 she has to take care of it and, she loves her hair straight. She gets it flat ironed during the winter months. I tell her your hair is so pretty and the way god intended to do it. Most people would kill to have hair like yours, they get weaves in the texture.

There is nothing wrong with wearing a wig. This is more about teaching kids to appreciate their hair as it is when they are young, not forcing them to think straight is better. Wigs and weaves are great for giving your own hair a break. It's called a protective style. Plenty of youtubers talk about it.
