B-M did this as an April Fools joke. Maiko is an apprentice Geisha. One of their duties is to serve the Geisha (maid). Besides the change of costumes, they changed their social media to Band-Maiko, changed their names; Miku = Hatoko, Saiki = Fukiki, Kanami = Kanoemi, Akane = Akatsuki, and Misa = Umemisa. They even changed the lyrics to a Kyoto style dialect, Kyoto being the center of Geisha culture. It was so popular that they released a mini album the following year!👍👍🤘🤘🤘

I still hope BAND-MAIKO drop a surprise MV this year. But who knows how B-M will alter their schedule with Covid still pravalent. More live streams seem a certainty.

BAND-MAID TRIVIA: If Misa is wearing traditional tabi and geta sandals, she is 5'9" tall in the video. (She is 5'7-1/2" barefoot). Misa is playing a tsugaru shamisen. Akane is a major foodie and this video features her prodigious ramen/udon eating proclivities. LOL

The traditional instrument MISA has is called a samisen, a square bodied 3 string lute like instrument. I may be wrong tho....but i'm not :)

@@2abug Actually you're right 2abug. The samisen is the standard instrument. MISA's is the custom Black Cloud Black Smoker MISAsen. Kudos for noticing :)

@@GaryHolloway-810 There are a lot of very knowledgeable people in these Band-Maid threads and if you say something wrong, you'll know about it. That's as it should be. I have learned a lot about Band-Maid by saying stupid sh!t in the comments. Say, isn't that spelled shamisen? 🙂

@@GaryHolloway-810 Both spellings are accepted. I just felt like correcting you, that's all, and it felt really good. I've got the alarm set for 2:30 am to watch the show at 3 EST. A most inconvenient time for me, but I have to be there for the live stream. Zaiko has 2 3/4 hours allotted for it. It is going to be epic.

@@MistahBurger You really should check out Wagakki Band. They combine traditional Japanese instruments and vocal styles with modern rock, metal, jazz, and more. All eight members are master level musicians, and their lead singer, the very elegant Yuko Suzuhana, is definitely the best female Japanese vocalist I have heard. They have a huge international following; and their live shows are amongst the best.
