It's hard to be a tenant because you never know how much longer you will live somewhere. I keep my home nice and when landlords see that, they feel they can put a "higher class tenant" in my place. It is really frustrating. I'm on Section 8. Many people treat us like lower class people. I try to conduct myself very well. I never did drugs, yet get grouped in with those type of people. I was abused as a child, just like this lady. I was physically, emotionally & mentally abused. My stepmother even tried to sexually abuse me. That's why I am terrified of people, because I never know what lies behind a smile. That is how my trust has been damaged many times. Thank you for finally having some understanding where your tenants are coming from. God Bless You & I hope you get nice renters.

Thank you!! 💖 I don’t live in HUD housing. I have disability and do not qualify because I also worked for the State, so they give me disability too. I am considered a double dipper. My income is still very limited in this economy. I try and find reasonable rent from private landlords with non rehab homes. I always fear if I keep the home really nice, they will put me out in search of more rent. If I don’t keep it nice enough, they will put me out because I don’t keep it up. I am always scared to call in any complaints. I do keep things clean and neat, I just don’t want to loose my place. Being a tenant is very stressful. Thank you for researching tenants and their perspective. It gives us all hope. God Bless. 💖🙏🕊

When I was a kid we rented a home. The place should've been condimed to be honest. But the rent was cheap enough for us to afford, and turn it into a home. We replaced windows, drywall, floors, etc. We lived there 7.5 years, and never saw the landlord because the rent was always on time. We never even called when a pipe burst, or other emergencies arose. Well, 1 day the landlord showed up, and said "Wow. You've done amazing things to this house.... I'm going to have to raise your rent...." This was early '70s- early '80s. The rent we had been paying was $150 a month + utilities. Utilities were high too. No insulation in the walls of a wood frame house. He raised the rent to $750 a month + utilities. Mom said I can buy a house cheaper than that per month! And, that's exactly what she did. Landlord wound up moving into the house and living there until his death. He literally destroyed all the work we put into that house. He was our cousin too. So, family will screw ya over faster than a stranger.

Love how this lady recognizes that having her rent paid is a blessing. She chooses to contribute by sweeping the sidewalk around her place, communicating with her neighbors and keeping her unit clean. If all the neighbors made the same effort the place would be looking really good in no time. Landlords need to do more to keep properties safe. Beautiful is harder, but they're paid rent to do basic maintenance on the property so they need to do it.

@bethenecampbell6463
@bethenecampbell6463 Жыл бұрын
@@marcellagamble6633 it's true. The landlords are in business to make money. I wish more of them understood that tenants who feel invested in the community take better care of their units and the communal areas. Which in the long run means that there's less maintenance needed on units between tenants. Cleaning and painting is way less costly than replacing flooring, patching walls and replacing appliances. People also need to make the effort to be good tenants as well. Not having guests over who are noisy and cause damage and not messing up communal areas like laundries, play zones and parking lots.

I live in Michigan. HUD Subsidized. They charge 30% of your income. For a long time I was not working. My rent was 0. But I was responsible for paying my utilities. Utilities get turned off and not paid for over like a 2 week period. You get a eviction notice. You the tenant are responsible for your company. If your guest come and start confusion. Depending on what it is. You get 1, 2, 3 strikes you are out. The other year a young ladies ex came and shot at the new. Automatic eviction. I have lived here 15 years. It was wild at one point. Lots of shooting, fighting, gambling, and all of that! Slowly but surely they got rid of the people keeping up the ruckus. Now it is so quiet. NYE we barely had any shooting! I notice more of the people work. Me personally am disabled. My daughter moved out years ago. I am in a townhome. It’s too much. I am about to transfer to a 1bdrm. I am grateful for the roof over my head. May God bless this woman! I remember in my hometown my friends Mom lived in subsidized housing. She would plan fun activities and trips for the kids. She did such an awesome job. Management created a stipend to pay her! If my health were up to part. I would have done that as well. Because at one point. It was so needed! If this lady were truly up to it. That is something she could have done. She seems to be concerned with the children.

I’m a section 8 renter, most section 8 rentals are not up to code as you would hope. The consequences to the landlord is “0” the only option to the tenant is to move because section 8 won’t pay the rent after you tell then of violation issues. I recently had a neighbor that smoked weed in his apartment & anytime he was home my place smelled like skunk. 13 yos standing at my windows staring in & giggling, purposely kicking soccer ball into the side of my car, it looks like someone took a hammer to my car, being charged at & sworn at, but the management is much worse than the neighbors. I keep my door locked & stay inside. Like this lady said, moving means starting over with neighbors & relearning the environment. These places are rented until they are in complete ruin. With all this, when I find myself feeling overwhelmed, I think to myself, other people have it worse, I remind myself that I have a roof, bed, water & usually a working hvac, refrigerator & stove. Prayer is my only comfort & hope to get out of the hell that I call ‘home’.

Well, for the rent you have to keep in mind that people with lower rent in better areas are paying with more than just money. A vast majority have also paid by building up their credit... by being financially responsible and being able to save up enough money for a large deposit, etc... staying out of jail... not doing lots of drugs... etc. Someone that owns rental property like where this woman lives is taking a LOT more risk because they are letting individuals that haven't done the above to stay there. And they know that a majority aren't going to take care of the place. In fact, the tenants not taking care of the place is probably the BEST case scenario since some might try dealing drugs in a unit or even cooking meth or something. A whole slew of not only possible but somewhat likely horror scenarios for a landlord.

Respectfully, I don't get the biracial thing because wouldn't it be better to claim the blackness in this country? Maybe the problem lies in wanting to be seen as white based on one parent, but not being able to be a part of that race and culture? Somebody help me understand this issue as I have biracial cousins. Peace.

People on housing get a bad rap. I keep my place clean and keep to myself. I never been arrested or been on drugs but people pre judge bc i have section 8. And no hate to the ppl that been through those time. I have addicts in my family. My own mom was on crack in the 90s, tho she maintained working through it all, definitely rare, she made sure i was good too. But seeing so many of my family on drugs and in jail etc kept me away from that lifestyle. I’m very lucky to have section 8, im perm disabled and in my 30s. Had section 8 for 5 years. If it wasn’t for it i would be homeless or have to rent a room for someone bc my disability check is not enough to cover full rent. I’m from Cali and its hella expensive, places go for $2000 and up. I was able to find a house (over $2200, but i only pay a smaller portion of that) and its private owner, and very nice to rent to me. I have excellent rental history and my credit is fair. But they said what made them rent to me is they like my spirit and could tell i was a good person and wanted to give me a chance. I feel lucky to no longer have neighbors next door fighting and kids running all over the place getting on my nerves. I am grateful for my time in apartments bc a roof is a roof, but im happy to be back in a house, haven’t had a house since i lived at home with my parents. The neighborhood is so so, could be better. That’s what i hate about section 8 most of the places are in the worser parts of places. And not gonna lie a lot of ppl that trash places and bad tenants make it worse for we good tenants on section 8.

The thing about prayers is it lulls believers into a false sense of accomplishment. We cannot solve our problems or anybody else's problems through prayer. People often pray for victims or their families in the wake of a tragedy. But prayers are useless without action and those actions make the prayer irrelevant. Prayer only benefits believers who see or hear them. It gives them comfort and it makes them think they have some type of control over a situation that is out of their hands. If God has a plan it is senseless to try and thwart it. If God can be swayed by prayers what kind of merciful god would allow the horrors we see in the world? If God is perfect and all knowing it would be impossible for God to have created such flawed, evil and sinful human beings. When it comes down to it prayer is illogical even in religious terms.
