Nury Martinez was on the school board before she was on city Council and she was useless and ineffective. We documented over 30 calls to her office and never once got to talk to her. We had to go through our congressman to get our issues resolved. Remove her completely, she never should have been on city Council in the first place. What she said is unforgivable. She wanted to take a colleague‘s child around the corner and give him a “beat down”. She never should’ve been on the school board, and she definitely never should’ve been on city Council, let alone the president. Remove her.

Bias and clannish cultures have existed at the Mayor's level downward for over 150 years. Having worked in that cesspool for 20 yrs., I witnessed it first hand via the LAPD where academy recruits were subtly reminded by instructors almost daily that they will be superior to citizens and even other agencies ( city, state and federal ) - basically the worst kind of conceited mentality. Other agencies are given scores and definitions ( nickname ), you're instructed how to treat them when you make contact, and to share just enough information - "let them come to you, not the other way around." That subtle indoctrination continues well past probation, resulting in some serious disdain and disgust from members of the public and other agencies. Fortunately that brainwashing either doesn't stick or eventually wears off for many officers, otherwise there would be serious chaos. But those that continue to live the BS just make it a frustrating place to work. So this council stuff is barely a scratch of just how corrupt movies and news makes this city appear. And don't forget to vote in November for your next corrupt, lazy, and incompetent mayor!

As a black person I have had encounters with racist Hispanic people, philippinos, asian and black people (being racist towards hispanics and asian) and pushed back on everyone where possible. I still believe generally speaking there are fewer racist hispanics than whites. I went to an all Hispanic junior high and high school and can not remember a hostile racist encounter through those years. But I know human beings characters can be corrupted harboring racist perceptions and attitudes about whole populations or communities. Individuals become invisible to them and they see only the group.

More and more I ask myself why politicians are allowed to hold private meetings with anyone while they are doing their jobs. "Oh, so they can honestly express their opinions." I see. That means they don't honestly express their opinions in public. How does not being honest in public serve one's constituents? How is this bunch of honestly expressed opinions part of doing the jobs with which they are entrusted? In what way did these comments contribute to a better district map? They should not even be having these thoughts, much less expressing them. "Oh, but they're just human beings, like anyone else." OK, why is anyone else having such thoughts? And human beings can train themselves to limit what they are thinking. For example, if you see a dog, you don't think, "I could shoot it and cook roast leg of St. Bernard for dinner." You _could_ think that thought (I just forced myself to think up something that bizarre and disgusting), but we train ourselves not to and those ideas do not enter our minds every time we walk past a dog or watch Scooby-Doo. Anyone who actually does have such a thought and expresses it is considered insane and vicious. I don't see how this is different.
