Yes. This reminds me how years ago before Serena Williams had dominated women's tennis. Every so often a young tennis player will show up beating many of the top women players. What I saw was that some of the women professional players weren't as good as they thought. This was how a younger female tennis player could advance far into a major tournament every so often. It's going to be interesting to see which players in the WNBA are going to up their level of game.

I don't think there is any jealousy at all. Goats at the top level of sports are not chokers, but relish the hardest of competition. Goats will always egg each other on to elevate each other for greater greatness. No one is jealous of Caitlin. Everyone is firing up her competitive nature so she can be the best that ever was. Her adversity is a teaching tool that will elevater her to heights not yet reached. The supposed "hate" and "jealousy" are fictional. Naw, it's the exact opposite. They want Caitlin to be great so badly. They are making it hard on her because Caitlin is a GOAT! Caitlin will rise above the competition. Diana was belittling Caitlin to motivate her. And Caitlin took her team to the playoffs. Quite a feat only a GOAT could do. She's consistent as a computer and doesn't back down. The WNBA is weening her into becoming a truly dominant player, which she is capable of becoming. Insults from other GOATS are motivational encouragements. Goats want goats at their best. They never want an injured goat, or a goat with PTSD or something. They want a Goat Goat. In walks Caitlin, and the established goats are in awe (and drooling.)

You have nailed it, I’m An East Coast Canadian and fell upon a you tube of Caitlin playing, I’m 75 years old, never watched basketball, watched every game Caitlin has played, amazing. I don’t know what constitutes a foul or abuse to a singled out player but it seemed to me on many occasions she was not protected by her own league from obvious spotlighting. Beware of players with nails and long lashes who seem to be as much concerned about their fashion statements, but less about the fairness with in the game. I will watch again in 200 days when Caitlin plays again, but if things don’t change, bye, bye WNBA. Keep up the good analysis, love your objectiveness. Thank you, Adrienne. I wish I had known of your site when I first even heard of Caitlyn Clark. This 73 yr. old white guy has been wondering why there was so much jealousy and negativity in the air surrounding this phenomenal young woman. I never paid much attention to basketball in all my years, but when I saw this woman tearing up the court with her "hustle" and her shooting skill, I just had to start watching. When I heard the figures on the number of fans and ticket sales I was blown away and when I heard her speak to the reporters and saw her signing autographs for the kids, I knew I was seeing someone special. Your analysis of the cause of all the "hate" was dead on. There was one main spokesperson who poisoned everyone's opinion of Caitlyn before she even really "arrived". The whole league will now suffer because that poke in the eye was the last straw.

Totally agree. I've been watching basketball for a lifetime, and personally I don't think it's an exaggeration to say CC is the WNBA's Michael Jordan. The bar has been raised and she will change everything over the next few years. But the one thing I wish more people would talk about is the dignity and professionalism with which she has carried herself throughout this. In the face of institutionalised bullying, ignoring the trash talk, ignoring the (attempts at) physical intimidation, not one reaction, not one word out of place, not one gesture out of place. She has just answered on the court, and her answers have been LOUD. That woman is a generational talent.

@@marcocrisari1901 Nah. Jordan was not THE celebrity in the NBA before he played a game. They just were. “Clark is the best!” When Clark played poorly, “it is the refs fault, it is her teammates’ fault.” And, of course the absurd comments here - which we’ve heard over and over - they are “trying too hard to defend her.” I mean, that is soooo remarkably stupid. The Clark phenomenon is what it is. She’s a great player. She’s the top rookie. But her “success” has been about celebrity more than anything else.
