You just shot to the top of my absolute favorite KZbin channel host!!! Being so extremely vulnerable is my dream, but now that you have opened yourself up I feel inspired to let people into my life. My sewing room-- actually my laundry room, dining room and guest bedroom are overrun with sewing and crafting bins, boxes and bags. I have been feeling like I need to purge all of the areas, but now am feeling like one area at a time. So thank you from the bottom of my heart for opening your sewing life and space to included all of us who struggle with organization.

@@TheSewingChannel You're very welcome. I know how disheartening it can be when you throw yourself completely into something and no one even notices. Just a note- I started my sewing room cleaning/organizing and am about 1/3 of the way, when it's done I will then go to the other rooms mentioned before and incorporate only the necessities. Charity is getting the rest. Thanks again.

@@DeborahGrissom-p8z Sounds like my house. I keep wanting to clean and organize but I get overwhelmed. I really don’t want to leave such a mess for my family to get rid of so I need to do it sooner rather than later.

@@bugsyfingersnapper5035 Well so far, due to the great inspiration, I have managed to donate 9 medium sized boxes of crafting and sewing supplies to D.A.V store. A friend of mine has a granddaughter that is getting into crocheting so I am gifting her 3 large bags of all sorts of yarn as well as sever crochet hooks of varying sizes. My sewing doubles as a computer room for my husband so he has been overwhelmed by the size of the room now that so much space has been freed up. Good luck with your venture. I am 71 so it can be done even with limited energy. 😄

I love how real your are! When my youngest went to college I took over her bedroom as my sewing room. It is wonderful to have a dedicated sewing space. I am fortunate to have a glassed in cabinet that stores my fabric and keeps it from getting dusty. I keep the overflow in see through tubs. As I am retired, I try at the end of each week to pick up my room so it feels fresh and makes me want to be in there. Thank you for showing me that it's okay to give myself grace when I can't always do that.

Some suggestions. Because you dump everything into bins and bags, it's difficult. Loose ribbon - Get a file folder or similar, fold the ribbon as you did and tape it onto the file folder/cardboard. You can tape dozens of ribbons to one file folder. You can either tape it inside on each side, so you take it out open it and select the color, or the outside so you can see the color ... then you keep THAT in the bin. Elastic double it and loop it onto a coat hanger, again, you can store all widths and dozens of them onto one coat hanger, using the bottom and top. This can then be hung on the back of the door. For things like zippers. Get a loose leaf notebook and the super thick/strong sheet protectors. Store the zippers in the sheet protectors, by size or color etc. I use the loose leaf that stands on it's own and so you open like a book, flip the "pages" to find your zipper size/color of choice, which you have written size on the sheet protector. (you can use ziplock with sliders by poking 3 holes and using those instead of sheet protectors. This works for many things, lace, patterns, tape, etc. The sock drawer dividers that look like picket fence, (Amazon) those are fabulous in the sewing room because you can customize the size shape and height of the "box" you build and these can be made to fit fat quarters, rolls of ribbon etc.. on a shelf. I made a grid of squares that fit in a drawer for thread storage. To cut them, bend it in the spot first, then they are easy to cut. Very cheap and you can build lots of corrals for things. While I appreciate all the comments of the relieved people seeing your "jumble", I am 180 degrees from that. My sewing studio stays clean and organized ALL the time because I am one of those that can not think when surrounded by chaos. Hopefully these ideas help someone.

Keep a notebook with your batting that lists what size batting scraps you have by type of batting. Now when you need batting for a smaller quilt, you can easily frankenbatt it together easily.

I have my fabric sorted by color by designer. I built shelves and bought four 9-cubes. I have ornament stackable storage containers for my strips and a separate container for 2 1/2" strips, squares (nothing bigger than 2 1/2"), orphan blocks and my left overs of hst's. I have 2 boot boxes that I have sorted by color, just selvages. When I reorganized my sewing room, it was a scary mess. I always fold my fabric and put it in its place when I am done cutting from it. I only have 1 shelf that is flannels only. I need to show a picture of what my studio looks like. I made an 8 x 8 design wall. I made my big board ironing board and I made my cutting table. My sewing machine sits on top of a huge "L" shaped desk.

My plan on zippers is to use up all the size 4.5 (byAnnie) zippers I have then only buy the large rolls of white and black from Wawak then cover them with coordinating fabric so I don’t have to deal with colors any longer. If someone wants a special zipper, they can pay for it. My strapping all has labels on them with the length remaining marked. Same with zipper tape. I need to sort everything fast - I’m moving sometime soon and have no idea when or how much space I will have. Yikes. Here’s yet another plea/request for a tutorial on that Quiltmas quilt. I absolutely loved it.

It’s interesting all the organizational differences we all have. Baggies of stuff organized or not gives me anxiety. For me it’s over stimulating visually. So smaller bins (not shoe size, about double that) where things are clearly labeled makes me stay more organized and limits what fits. If I find a bin becomes full, it’s time to donate. Usually one quick visual check tells me if things are more than two years old, then in the donation bag it goes. This episode made me want to go reorganize again! But I will wait as there are other areas in my home more in need of organizing. Thanks for taking us on this journey and being honest, it’s scary opening up to others online through your channel. But what really happened, by filming yourself and sharing with us, it was like you were talking to your best friend while FaceTiming which is always fun to do when you want to chat and work, it makes the time fly!! I have used that before! Thanks again!!

Thank you for showing us your second room. I see treasures in there. When you said, your mom gave you this and your mom gave you that. I stopped what I was doing and sat down with you. The task I was ready to start was going through all the leftover scraps my mom had given to me. I’m just doing a rough sort for now. I have other yardage she gave me that’s in my storage. For me it’s bittersweet but the fabric bits make me smile. I helped her pick a lot of her fabrics for projects and she always said I would get some of it back, some day. You see my mom passed away last Christmas morning at the age of 97. She was ready to be done with this old world. I was with her and as ready as you can be for that moment. So I decided to tackle the scraps today and absentmindedly turned KZbin on and there you were tackling your room. Thank you for being so real and thank you for what you put on your channel❤️

It looks great! I find that I have to continually go through my stash. Now I keep a donate bag and when I see something that I don’t want, or I’m just tired of it, I put it in the bag. Hopefully, I will “keep up” better. That’s what I tell myself anyway.

Bravo 🎉!!!! I'm a saver of sewing and quilting paraphernalia that has moved with me from place to place. Sometimes, we have to face all of it and get real with ourselves . I can truly relate to the feeling of being weighed down and overwhelmed by my sewing room. It can reduce creativity for me. I appreciate your organizing endeavor! ❤

I think most of us who sew are the same way. All our stuff just kinda overflows. When the kids leave you gotta do something with the empty rooms, right? I have a “craft” room, a sewing room and an overflow room that’s the “guest room.” Good thing there’s no more rooms in my house!!! LOL😂

I wondered where you put the stuff from your mom 😉. I have a nice-sized sewing room, but my rule is that if my stuff doesn't fit in that closet - when the room is tidy - I can't buy any more. Very well done, Tracy!! Thx for your honesty!

I love your Pensacola Christian college t-shirt you're wearing. Thank you so much for showing us how you're doing it. My sewing room is much messier and bigger than yours. I should clean mine. You're giving me some energy to do so.😊

I often do multiple sorts. For example I would have gone tnrough each nag and bin on the table to get all of the strapping, elastic, ribbon, and "other stuff" in thier separate bags, bins, or piles. Very quick, easy, and takes minimal thought or decision making. Then within each grouping, i generally take the next easiest. For example with ribbons, those on a roll would get separated from the others and put in order. Then would come those that needed to folded amd rubber banded.

When I went through my clutter in my sewing room. I bought a big wood beautiful cabinet to help organize. I was tired of looking at bins. I am determined to make anything that I can make with scraps. Just to get rid of the material. Why don’t you make cross stitch project bags with your beautiful material and sell them.

I found that cleaning up as I go, and doing a thorough cleaning after each large project (like a quilt), helps me not have the situation your second sewing room has...otherwise my sewing studio would look the same as yours!

Maybe I'll send you photos of my "other " sewing storage room. I'm in the process of removing everything sewing from my living room. Kids move out and hobbies move in. Then at some point you have to regain control over your environment. There is no shame in having supplies. It's how you choose to find peace and functionality that makes doing your projects easier. For anyone who has admitted to hoarding it's a lifelong battle to overcome which sometimes needs a good friend to walk this journey alongside you. Tracy, I have also lost my guest bedroom to my sewing supplies. It's time to get back some perspective and feel better about myself . One huge challenge is to never have anything on the floor that needs to be picked up. Plus learning to say no when offered donations of supplies. It's easy to forget that what you do can affect the people around you that you love the most. You got this! Thanks for your openness and honesty. Hugs from the Harris home in Geraldton Western Australia 🇦🇺 ❤

If that was my room I think I would look for a solid shelf in goodwill or somewhere. I think I would want better storage. Still watching but I really hope you take that black shelf off the silver one. It looks like it will topple over on you someday, I wouldn't trust hooking it to a wall. I could see something low and deep like a sideboard or tv stand as being useful. You will hurt your back reaching above your head for stuff. Take care.

You can make those decorative zippers by sewing trim and laces to the zipper tape. You can also make your own binding and sew it to the zipper tape; the fabric strips have to be surprisingly wide.

You are inspiring me to organize more and get rid of stuff I will probably never use. I am glad it's not just me having stuff unsorted. I did manage to organize most of my zippers, ribbons, strapping etc. in bins and placed them on a book shelf with labels. It's extremely hard for me to organize anything in a small apartment. I have stashes everywhere and it's a pain trying to find something I need. I don't have a sewing room and sometimes procrastinate on getting stuff out for a project and then having to put it away again so I can have a chair to watch a movie. I all so have a piles of yarn that I crochet and knit with and it takes up a lot of room. I wish I could shut door and leave it for the next day to start on a project again.

Mine is twice worst . It I was close to you I would buy a lot from your goodwill bin . Throwing the elastic is not a good idea because there are so many variance if covid this winter and people are starting to wear their mask again in Australia as precautionary measure . I have every colours of small elastic too for the masks . You have done a great job. A messy sewing room means a hard working person . So take it as a compliment.
