I recently saw my surgeon & I told him I was tired of being gaslighted & if he didn't answer my questions that day, I would go over his head & not stop until I got answers. He pulled up a chair & told me to fire away. I had 15 questions on my list but he ended up answering 18 & showing me on the wall chart & on my scopes. I'm so glad I confronted him. I've had 35 operations & I'm only 61. I know my body better than any doctor.

My former adult congenital heart doctor blamed me for my issues. I can’t control what my heart does. He also yelled at me while I was in the hospital recovering from my second open heart surgery. I didn’t do anything to deserve the way I was blamed and treated. I have had residents and fellows lump me in with the people who abuse opioid pain medication. I have been shocked by that. My narcotics pain medication helps me to function. I don’t deserve to be treated like a bad person.

Sadly, some doctors do that. I had a similar experience a couple months ago. A doctor on the transplant team was a jerk... accused me of being an addict, and he was wrong. He threatened to have my blood drawn again, after a phlebotomist had just drawn me (& I'd already been poked about 20-30 times.) I was drawn again, and when he returned, I told him to look at my labs... Ironically, despite his several inaccurate assertions, it was, according to the other doctors on the team, the Tamiflu I'd been given at another hospital about 2 weeks prior that they attributed to the cause of my liver failure. I don't drink, never drank much at all all my life. I haven't had any alcohol for many years, not even socially. I know they have to check by blood tests, as they have to know what is going on. That 1 doctor didn't have to say what he did. He was a jerk, AND he could've run a drug screen on a prior ROC that was just drawn. If I ever wind up back there again, and I'd I ever see him again, I'm going to request he be barred from any of my care at that hospital (Cedars-Sinai). After he got the results, then he wanted to blame some vitamins I hadn't taken for over a month, and then only periodically. I counted the vitamins I'd taken before I got sick, and it wasn't even close to being them. The rest of the team said it was very likely the Tamiflu. Interesting, as several others have since agreed, yet if you look up Tamiflu, some sites say it "never" caused a problem... others say it has. A study with Tamiflu killed every rat in the study via liver failure. I made a report to the FDA, and I'll never take it again. It is dangerous, IMHO. I have health issues from this incident which may be long-term or perhaps even permanent, that severely affect my quality of life. I am still undergoing work-ups and will be for the next month or more. It affected my heart, lungs, and other organs. It's going to take a while to sort it all out. Tamiflu, IMHO, is poison.

Medical doctors shouldn't be calling anyone borderline, unless they're psychiatrists. For any other physician, it's out of their sphere of competence. Leave that to the psychiatrists and the psychologists who are trained in that diagnosis.
@iSheree
@iSheree Ай бұрын
I am borderline as diagnosed by a psychiatrist mainly because of my fear of abandonment. I adhere to medications that I must take and do what doctors tell me to do as long as I feel it is right for my body. For example, recently I was pressured into an IUD and I decided against it because the safety data sheet said “contraindicated (not safe) for those with liver tumours or liver disease. I have over 10 tumours in my liver, so I said it’s not safe and I don’t feel comfortable. They’re telling me to ignore that advice from the company themselves. Now they are refusing to do so a hysterectomy despite non stop bleeding from adenomyosis for which a hysterectomy is the only cure. I also have severe endometriosis. This is totally unfair.

All of the psychiatrists, psychologists, and therapists have been taught to gaslight their patients. I've seen and known many psychiatrists, psychologists, and therapists that are way more broken than I am. I at leas try to laugh through all of what I'm going through. They are first to keep their own feelings deep down inside while listening to somebody else's problems. Very sad. Our doctors are not allowed to connect with us anymore. In the American medical system, we are all nothing but sheep...

I said, First of all, YOU are not treating my spine. Secondly, you're NOT a doctor to be giving your opinion on my posture. Shut it. Third, and most definitely last, I ride my bike 5 miles to play on your stupid little toys, UPHILL. I offered to show you my x-rays, and you refused. I think my rehab is done. I began having constant 24/7 headaches out of the blue in my mid 30s. The first neurologist I saw tried a couple of meds that didn’t work. He then told me that it was probably stress from my job (I’m a teacher and was not working in June) and that perhaps I needed a psychiatrist. Twenty years later and I still remember how devastated and hopeless I felt that day. I finally found a wonderful neurologist who took me seriously and worked with me for many years, finding the root cause and treating me with such compassion. She was the most caring, amazing doctor I’d ever had. First doc was out of his depth and I’d have totally understood if he’d admitted he didn’t know and referred me to another doctor instead of implying that I was crazy.

Once, I was being treated in the ER for my asthma. I had an attending male nurse, who was nasty. Of all the nurses, I got Chimney Stack. AND he was dismissive and sarcastic. I finally got so angry, I yanked out the tube from my port (wasn't being used), walked out to my ride, port still hanging from my arm and, said Take me home. So they call as we're driving, telling me I need to come back. So I did. They asked what happened, and I told them. That's when I found out, we have EVERY right now to be treated by any nurse or doc, and can tell them to go fly a kite 😂😂😂. So next time I went there (for an assault), I asked what happened to Chimney Stack. They let him go. Turns out he was a visiting nurse, and the other nurses didn't care for him. They said he was like Pig Pen, with a waft of cigarette smoke, stinking up the hallway wherever he went, lol!!

That is awesome that you pointed out to others that you do indeed have the right to fire a doctor or a nurse. I had a nurse tell my doctor that I wanted to decrease my pain medications, I called for meds because it hurt so bad, she told me the doctor had changed the order. The next morning I was a mess, the doctor said if I was hurting so badly why would I ask him to lower my dose. I told him I had asked for more not less because it hurt soooo bad. He raised me up higher than it had been so when that nurse came on shift she jumped down my throat telling me that I didn't need all that pain medications as I needed to get ready to be discharged (I was discharged 25 days and 2 operations later not then.) Anyway she wouldn't bring the meds when it was time, she let me go two or three hours after it was due and said she had so many patients she was doing her best. In the morning the doctor came back and I was a mess again. I told him what she did and how I got even less than the previous night. He was so mad because I was just chasing the pain. Turned out she only had 2 patients (ICU rules at that hospital) and she believed that pain was a state of mind and I was just using meds as a crutch and I probably was just a drug seeker. When she was assigned to me on day three I called the doctor before he left, told him she was there again he came to my room, reamed her infront of the charge nurse and told them to get me someone who would follow his orders. He told me I had a right to fire a nurse and have many times.

I had an endoscopy and HIDA scans that showed nothing and stomach meds for IBS did nothing. Finally, that kind surgeon, who said I had been through enough, said he would take a look. Turned out my gallbladder had been dead for quite some time. I had been really sick for more than a year. I was literally tearing out my hair with pain and doctors refused to do anything. I'm not sure why the HIDA scan said my gallbladder was fine on two occasions, or the endoscopy wasn't effective, but I've always felt grateful for that doctor who didn't think I was just an hysterical hypochondriac. Thank you for this. During Covid I had a major fall down a hill into trash cans and a solid wooden fence. Compound fracture of the fibula lengthwise. Six inch plate. Surgeon suggested a knee replacement on the same leg. Had it done. Did great until 8 weeks out. Even more severe pain and balance totally off. Got the typical “you’re older” code for weak and whiny so your recovery will be about a year. I was already back walking 3 miles a day and graduated out of PT two weeks early. This went on for four years with pain and imbalance getting much worse. Four falls in five years. Two concussions. Face planted Christmas Day. Broke a vertebrae in my neck, broke my hand and hit the sidewalk so hard it sent my heart into a fib. Finally blessed with an amazing neurosurgeon, orthopedist and cardiologist. Ended up with a pacemaker, a MRI that showed that the knee replacement was put in sideways turning one leg in and causing me to trip, and my hip was out of joint because of it. The Drs. explained why, with no history of back pain before all this, my vertebrae are degenerating rapidly and the bones are pinching the spinal cord and nerves. Doing intense PT but was told, very kindly, this week that there is no way to repair this and it will end in paraplegia. All because I was just a “whiny old woman” to the PA working with the surgeon and who did not chart any of my calls. Ageism is very real in the Medical profession. If you have parents, grandparents or elders who are important to you the greatest gift you can give them is taking time to go to appointments with them. It will positively effect their treatment.

Prescribe antidepressants, pain meds and gabapentin to combat the symptoms. I’ve walked around with nerve impingement since 2018. Steadily gotten worse. PT , injections, steroid packs etc. the list could go on and on with all I’ve done. And now I need back surgery and won’t even be able to make a full recovery. I’m so sickened by all of the gaslighting and now, after listening to this video, I think they probably have me labeled, or something. I had an active life. I had to do that with 5 years of him gaslighting me and saying I was a hypochondriac when I only saw him when there was an issue.. that was 10 years of having an irregular menstrual cycle ( he said it was normal to bleed almost all month long), so I changed doctors. I said he was not very good at his job and called me a hypochondriac. My new doctor sent me in for tests, and it was some weird name where my cycle did not stop and caused more cycles through the month. I ended up having a hysterectomy. Over 10 years of feeling like I was in labor ( which I know the feeling due to having kids)

I have actually been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder but this is due to my fear of abandonment etc, I have no trouble adhering to what doctors say but only if I feel that it is right for MY BODY. For example, I recently was pressured into agreeing to have an IUD. But I read that IUD is contraindicated in people with liver tumours. I have over 10 of them. So I have said no thank you to the IUD. But they wont do a hysterectomy now because I wont try the IUD first. This is so unfair. I am bleeding non stop and need iron infusions, soon I will need blood transfusions. I have zero quality of life because of my adenomyosis and endometriosis. So unfair. Edit: I am also a cancer patient, a chronic pain, chronic fatigue and chronic disease patient, disabled from birth with spinal bifida. Hospital negligence destroyed my hearing. I also have POTS and an undiagnosed autoimmune disease. I have had plenty of doctors dismiss me, blame me or gaslight me.

I went to the ER with severe abdominal pain. The ER doctor and staff were amazing. Apparently I was pregnant and they couldn’t rule out an ectopic bc they couldn’t see anything in my ultrasound. The problem was from the OB on call… she blamed me for not knowing I was pregnant and not going to the hospital where my OB had privileges (this hospital was 15 minutes closer to my house). She said I wasn’t in enough pain for it to be ectopic and sent me home to follow up with my OB. Long story short, it was a ruptured ectopic. Luckily I clotted instead of bleeding out.

Got to the recovery room and Dr slides outside of room and points to me and said "I'm not operating on you again unless you're completely knocked out!" I didn't have my glasses on so I wasn't sure who it was and nurse in the room wouldn't say. I found 2 burn marks on front of chest and 2 on the back. Supratentorium is a big word for saying it’s just all in someone’s head time 5:25 into video. I have heard these terms for years and they are demeaning to patients. I worked as a nurse specializing in trauma and I also taught A & P at a higher level and loved to help others and introduce nurses and interns to the world of trauma, so it is actually even more demeaning to talk about a pt, in front of or around using language that they don’t understand. I have pulled some fast ones being gaslighted too especially since I do speak Latin and English isn’t my first language. But at the same time I too have really terrible health and I just smile when someone corrects my Latin. My doctors that have treated me for years completely understand the walls we confront and even though I am probably the worst one in anesthesia preop I try to make sure that I actually know the plan and ask because when I don’t I am given what I am allergic to or what sends me into tds and not to be able to sit or sleep for at least a week, not exaggerating. I guess what is really sad is that no matter how many laws that can be made what is lacking is empathy and love for our neighbor and sadly these were and are supposed to be the reasons why the medical profession should appeal and not to our craniums 😊btw I am having major surgery this coming month and I have anxiety, EDS, PSA, chronic fatigue etc and I once again will be accused by someone that will open there big mouth and I will have to have both of my DPOA’s for health there. I try to make everyone’s life easier it backfires and so I have my DNR filled out and so many have no clue that quality of life has to count, it just does. Thank you for your input because there has to be communication and kindness. Hope that you are well Dr K!😊

@@jangriffin-fi1yx that was very kind of you, even though I am very disabled I volunteered what I could do through Covid but since the American Disability Act is in writing, there is no place for experienced, disabled nurses in the work place. Although there is a desperate need, what is ignored is as clear as water. I know so many disabled medical professionals that would love to work even a day a week, it all adds up. What a load it would take off of so many , also what an attitude adjustment it might bring to those whom despise seeing another nurse in a wheelchair. I can’t even begin to describe the errors in nursing judgement and how to handle a physician who blatantly berates pts and staff other than someone has to calmly take charge and unfortunately it happens too much. I could go in to some really really bad scenarios that happened and I actually am glad that I was there because I blew the whistle on a very large hospital ‘s staff from Director to trauma surgeon and several doctors that were up to no good. Nobody is perfect but behaving obscenely and threatening staff physically and sexually is something I will never tolerate. In a world where we need help it sickens me to find the scum but I am never afraid to call it and it is equally as important that any patient ( pt) should love themselves enough to always have an advocate that is assertive and respectful and I can’t emphasize that enough. Please stay with your loved ones in the hospital, do not let them be alone and don’t take a back seat if there is some miscommunication.

You're so right! Empathy has become a dirty word. I got fired from a rheumatology office because I would listen to the patient and talk with them while I did their xrays ans dexa scans. I would chart what was said to me so the doctor could address their concerns. When I was asked to report to the Dr I knew they were firing me because the other staff hated that patients asked if I could room them and help them. (The doctor was just as bad). I had enough of them anyway (I used their fax machine to send out resumes for a new job during work hours) because several of their patiens committed suicide and I told the people investigating that I thought that the way they treated patients in that office contributed to the high suicide rate. I still stand by the fact .

OMG, almost the same exact thing happened to me. I didn't get labeled as non-compliant though. I was on brand Lipitor for years and then it ended up on the "non-formulary" list at my insurance company. I had to try the generic for Lipitor, Atorvastatin and 2 other brands, Crestor being one of them before they would approve paying for the brand Lipitor again. One generic caused Rhabdo of the upper arms and shoulders, Crestor caused Rhabdo in my calfs, so weird. It took me months of specific PT to get the correct muscles built back up without over exercising the others that were unaffected. So insurance finally approved me to go back on the Lipitor as it's the only statin that works for me. Now, YEARS later, it's free under my insurance, not even a copay. Go figure. Sorry I wrote a book here.

I had a pulmonary doctor for 1 year. She never ever once asked how I was doing or how was I feeling, even after being hospitalized with double pneumonia. She blamed everything, and I do mean everything on being obese. I asked her so no skinny people ever have lung disease & trouble breathing? She got really angry when I asked her that. After dealing with her for 1 years, I decided I had had enough of being treated so poorly by her. My last visit with her I confronted her & then she kept saying she wasn’t prejudiced against fat people. I told her she very much was prejudiced against fat people. Then she said she had friends who were overweight. Told her I don’t care what you say because how you treat your patients who are overweight is far more telling. Told her I was done with her nonsense & wouldn’t be seeing her again. She was in tears & I was in tears after that visit. 2 weeks later, she had her clerk call me to schedule my next appointment. I told the poor clerk that I had told the doctor I wouldn’t see her ever again & that she had been told not to call me again. Thankfully, I found a new pulmonary doctor who actually listened to me & worked with me to get my lung disease much better controlled. I continue to follow with him & it’s been about 14-15 years now! No one should be treated poorly or blamed for things that aren’t their fault. All of my doctors know that I’m going to say what’s on my mind whether they like it or not, but most of them have said they appreciate that because they always know where I stand on things. God bless you Dr. K

Yes, I was mislabeled as bipolar then borderline. These two diagnoses do not lead to help for someone like me. I had to go outside of my HMO, pay $2500 for neuropsychiatric private pay testing (that is a deal compared to the going rate now). I also had GeneSight testing done because I was not responding as a patient typically would to many medications. I was very motivated, because I noticed I was being treated differently by healthcare providers, then got a release of my records. In the records, at the top of my problem list was borderline! I was shocked to see what should be a confidential record right there on top. The sad thing is that I was misled to believe I was borderline snd “splitting” with my husband when he was unkind to me. In hindsight, I see they were blaming me for having an emotionally abusive spouse, that if I could have a different perspective, it would be less abusive. Um, no! I presented my test results to my HMO to correct my medical record. It took months and multiple calls and messages to finally correct my chart.

I was made to take those are you crazy tests by several doctors. When someone finally figured out what is wrong with me I went back and told every one of those jerks that they were wrong and just couldn't get past their own superiority to find the real problem. It's easier to start with a new doctor when they don't have a preconceived opinion of you. Paper records hid all of that and gave me a clean mental slate before a visit.

Hey Kaveh! Thank you so much for your videos, especially about anesthesia fear. I'm 61, I recently had my first surgery EVER. I've been in and out of OR's, I was a medical laser technician. I'd come in mid procedure and I'd see the patient on the table, sometimes "bucking." If you don't know what that is, someone here will explain. I would say to myself, "glad that's not me." I had a morbid fear of general. They wouldn't allow me to meet the surgeon who would operate on me. My anxiety propelled a paranoia that the CIA was planting someone to put me out for good. So I created a tolerable perspective to get me through and went all Jedi knight, I Zen- mastered it through. The general was seamless, the surgery happened literally in the blink of an eye. I never felt "going out" I just felt the shake of the gurney as they were wheeling me to recovery. Awakened I asked if they did the surgery and affirmed it was successful. I imagine how alien abductions might resemble the affect, loss of time, no memory of what happened, sans the alien and the interstellar conveyance! You helped me through.

Maybe if want could ask for Sleep Study if you've been told stop breathing in sleep or have lack quality of life. Maybe go to your local chemist if feel need in W.A. here you can arrange to take home small machine (CPAP) from chemist use for Sat week take machine back then they simply download inform you if have or not. Failing that a GP can just give Epsworth Sleepiness Scale Test in surgery then if need a Polysomnegraph Test stay overnight in Sleep Unit in Hosp. I think best to get to crux of the matter instead of just taking blood pressure tabs as mask cause more probs. Hope get sorted wishing you well.

I bet you had an AVM right? I have been there and I'm on blood thinners, blood was pouring out of me, my body just kept making me push like I was having a bowel movement. It was so hot and I could feel my life running off the table and onto the floor with my blood. The nurse who was taking care of me saved my life. The doctor was very young and inexperienced, he panicked, but the nurse grabbed him, said you are ordering ffp (oh, fresh frozen plasma) and you will have people squeezing it in... There were three nurses squeezing bags of ffp into the two veins in my groin and the port in my chest(I have no veins that will hold an iv they just blow so they have to go into arteries but my port in my chest is a true life saving device)... it saved my life but by the time the helicopter landed at the trauma center 100 miles by air I was a giant hive. Because I have autoimmune problems I have built an allergy to my own blood type and when I need blood they have to factor it. I hope they can always do that because every transfusion brings more antibodies. I loved the nurse that saved me, my husband and I brought him a special gift after I got out of hospital 38 days later.

I have started taking someone with me to appointments after watching your gaslighting video. I have fibromyalgia/CFS. It always gets blamed when doctors can't figure out the answer to a new problem. Yes, they will check blood tests and even do other tests, but if nothing shows up, it must be fibro (even if I take logs, it doesn't always help). The result is that unless something is bothering me to the point that I can't cope with it, I don't bother with a doctor.

I had a cosmetic surgery over a year ago. I'm not as thrilled with the results as I hoped. I ended up with a divot in both knees. I've been honest about my disatification with him. He tried to correct 1 of my knees because it is more noticeable in my left knee. It worked a tiny bit. I still don't love it, but nothing I can really do. It could look worse. I overheard a receptionist talking to a nurse saying that I was a problem. I guess they write it in your chart notes! I followed all post-op instructions and did everything I was told! I never got an apology. I do think complications happen to all doctors. They're human like the rest of us. I understand that it could be somewhat of just how my body decided to heal from it, but I wasn't the one who cut me and stuck myself with a cannula completely out on a table! I know doctors try and cover things up because they're afraid of malpractice lawsuits. I wouldn't sew unless it was a huge disaster!! It's small, but bothers me because I was trying to do something for myself to improve how I feel about my legs. Instead, he gave me something else to be self-conscious about! I don't completely hate the surgery as a whole, but when you shell out thousands of $$$$. On elective surgery! You want what you paid for! I do hope he feels bad about what happened even if he can't express it to me. I still don't dislike him. at least he tried something to fix it. He said he was worried to try to do more because at least it looks a bit more even to my right knee. He said he was worried it would end up looking worse if he did more. At least he was honest about that. I just won't ever let him cut me again.

I was told by a dr at Mayo Clinic that whatever I had, it was all in my head! This after 10 days of tests, procedures, exams, etc. it wasn’t in my head-an allergist in Little Rock, AR diagnosed me with Epstein-Barr Virus. Just knowing there was a name for my problem was a huge relief. (I did not pay the patient portion of the bill at Mayo. That doctor was so sure I was a noncompliant patient, that he gaslighted me, spoke down to me, and managed to make me feel helpless and furious. I have also been accused of having Munchausen, because I see a number of doctors. Although, I do have to say, I burst out laughing at the Munchausen statement, because I have a lot of health issues, but very few people know just how many issues I contend with daily. So that was a shot in the dark, what was aimed to hurt me, and failed miserably. I also had a nephrologist scream at me that I was not doing what he had ordered me to do, because I was not getting any results, and he accused me of lying. He was a doctor from another country, and evidently expected the identical results from each patient. My PCP at the time had told the nephrologist that “Her body has never read the textbooks,” because I would frequently have different results from a treatment. Had another doctor tell me, with a big smile, that I was “one of THOSE patients,” when I warned her I may not have the normal results.

I had my radius lengthened and plated. About 4 weeks in I began having excruciating pain under my cast. At 5 weeks I went in and the removed my cast and had an xray. It showed my plate had broken and the radius broke again. The first thing the PA asked is “what did you do?” I said “nothing”. Again he asked if I’d hit my cast on a wall. Really??? My surgeon came in and it was obvious he was angry. He sent me home in a splint for 10 days as is until repairing it. When I got home I realized they’d not called in anything for pain. 10 days-broken wrist- open splint -nothing for pain? It felt more punitive than an oversight. When the notes for that visit showed up on mychart it clearly stated, “SHE broke the plate” not “the hardware failed” as you’d expect. Please tell me is there any logical way a 62yo woman can break a steel plate through a cast and not make so much as a mark on the cast? Talk about the blame game…

I had a primary doctor for about 17 years. I’m not sure why I kept him for my doctor for so long. I didn’t know why I was having chest pain and heart palpitations, and my pulse was 110, sometimes going up to 130 and faster. I had really bad migraines and pressure headaches. My muscles hurt really bad, and then it felt like my bones hurt. I started having memory problems in my mid 40s. My white blood cell count got up to 35,000 and stayed there for over 3 months before slowly coming down, and this told me I had an infection going on. My doctor didn’t do anything but put me on different prescription medicines. Recently my arms, hands, and fingers have become numb, my headaches are unbearable now and happen almost single day, my memory is worse, etc.. Not one doctor has ever checked me for Lyme disease. In 1979 over a two week period of time about 41 ticks were removed from my body when I went to Indiana. A doctor I saw a week ago ignored what I said to him about the numb arms and severe headaches, along with other things. I’m in so much pain now and things have gotten so much worse over the years. It feels like doctors are ignoring me when I tell them what is going on.

It took me 22 years of daily migraines to finally get a doctor to finally give me any kind of preventative medication. They started when I was 5 and as a kid doctors told my mother I was faking it, then that I had anxiety and then that it was normal for puberty to have that many headaches. Then as an adult treated like I was trying to get painkillers to abuse or told it’s normal for women or once again that I have anxiety. Then after I got fed up trying to get real help from a doctor I started taking marijuana illegally to treat the migraines. Which shortened them but didn’t prevent them and I continued to suffer every day. It was only until I was 27 and I sad down with a neurologist and said “look I’m suffering every day, no one has taken me seriously for 22 years, I don’t want to smoke weed for this but I literally have never even been given the opportunity to try prevention because idfk. I understand people try to get drugs they can abuse, I just want to prevent the migraines in the first place. I’m begging you please”
