He shoulda been a top 20 all time power forward.His minnesota teams were literally unorganized they kept not properly building around him,constantly changing starting lineups,rubio not turning into a top 10 pg n coaching changes.He wasn't stat padding at all he just was that good.Then he went to a LeBron team and turned into a 4th option they liked diming to jr smith then to love at times.It's really shameful when he woulda been a automatic hall of famer regardless if he won a title by now or not

Kevin Love physical and tactical transformation is one of the most mind blowing things I have ever seen in the NBA. I remember him in the 2010 world cup at the beginning of his career and he was known as a gritty, "ugly" offensive rebounder who worked down low and did a lot of dirty work and never shot any 3. I even remember an interview he gave to a local magazine (I'm from Italy) where he said that he would never be a finesse player shooting threes, he would always be a hard nosed battler and power player in the paint. And then after a few years he changed completely, he became a stretch 4, much leaner, who didn't rely on power but on touch to score down low and from the outside.

@@Janon743 I'd say that the Clippers are probably way worse than them. In nearly 53 years as an NBA team, they never won a single Conference title. The most that they did is the 2 Division titles on 2013 and 2014, which are the years where the Pacific Division are easily the worst in their entire existence (Kobe is basically injured on every game, the Kings were nothing, Curry hasn't taken off, and the Suns are in the transition period after the lost of the Nash/Stoudemire duo and the arrival of Booker).

It’s one thing to get tangled up, but unless he was literally falling to the floor, Olynyk had no business doing the “yank down” bit. And his body language and position doesn’t indicate it at all. Pulling Love’s arm across his body afterwards? No chance that was a clean play. Olynyk isn’t a full-time dirty boi in my book, unlike fellow Canadian Dillon Brooks. But when his adrenaline picks up, he defaults to being dirty. Almost every negative incident he’s been on has been either playoffs, or when he personally is struggling.

I've always had the personal theory that Lebron went hard at the Celtics in his 2nd stint with CLE because of how his first stint with CLE ended. The season before he left for Miami, CLE was eliminated from the playoffs by the Celtics and got thumped in the final game. A LOT of people thought Lebron mailed it in on that final game because he didn't care and he wanted to leave (of course that was just the start of a lot of criticism he got that year). I feel like when he came back to CLE he always made it a point to go extra hard against the Celtics to purge this particular memory.

I don't tend to think basketball players are dirty unless they have a history of intentionally antagonizing or hurting other players like Dillon Brooks, Draymond Green, and Bill Laimbeer. I usually tend to think the bigger guys are just more uncoordinated. Although I can believe that Kelly Olynyk was trying to be more 'physical' after being called soft, was uncoordinated, and in the heat of the game tore Kevin Love's shoulder. I think you'd need to really hate someone to tear someone's shoulder out intentionally which wouldn't be in Kelly's character, so he likely was just very clumsy and reckless while boxing out.
@andrewberardinelli1749
@andrewberardinelli1749 Жыл бұрын
Love saying it was on purpose is likely due to Olynyk actually tugging down hard on his arm. And Rick Fox taking a still if their arms entangled in a similar way is really, really reaching for the other side of the argument. Anyone who has ever gone for a rebound at any level knows that sometimes one will wrap the other up to impede their arm, but that's easily oountered by the other guy pulling his arm up and over. Anyone can "look" like they're going to do something bad at any time, but it's the action of actually doing it that sets them apart from others. Olynyk did it, whether he meant to do exactly what he did or not, he went through with it. Did he deserve the negative attention for it? I believe so

Regardless of whether you think Love was injured on purpose or not, the fact remains that it cost him the rest of the season, and it is highly likely that the Cavs would’ve won it all if Love hadn’t been injured.

Kelly Olynyk has not been known as a dirty player in Utah. Might be the culture there, or maybe he's just a guy who does something stupid every now and then.

No, I don’t think you needed a trigger warning. Former Washington QB Joe Theisman’s leg injury from the 1980’s was worse than that. Also I’m pretty sure K. Olynyk and WNBA star Breanne Stewart are twins separated at birth (see the 4:58 mark).

and it cost the cavs the 2015 nba championship. may have shifted the competitive balance of the cavs warriors rivalry and potentially caused the warriors to make moves early and disrupt that core thus never allowing their dynasty.

That moment might have ruined a Cavs dynasty. Might have also screwed up one of the great rivalries in basketball history. Absolutely think they would have won 2015. No reason to think they COULDNT win again in 2016 though I think it would have absolutely gone 7. Who knows what Durant does at that point. Interesting to think about.

Looking at Kelly Olynyk's numbers he's put up respectable numbers. In 6 of his 10 years in the NBA he's averaged over 10 Points Per Game so he's been a solid player in my view.

I really doubt Olynyk ever thought to himself that he wanted to injure Love. I didn't look closely at the play, but if he's anything like me (except much bigger, stronger, and better at basketball), he probably was upset about something and thought that it'd be fair to get a quick one in on one of his opponents, and at that very moment, he just happened to have Love in a vulnerable position, and it only took a moment of lacking self control to create a much larger repercussion than he'd bargained for.

If you do something that might injure someone intentionally then you injured them on purpose. If you stab someone you can't then say "I wanted to hit him somewhere where he didn't die".

You watch the interaction at full speed and it definitely gives the impression of normal physical basketball (which has inherent risks of injury) going wrong. I doubt either player would have thought this outcome was even a remote possibility even if there was malice involved.
