The thing that's beautiful about this hurdle to me, this incredibly impressive once in a life time feat to do a backwards hurdle got him a grand total of like 1 extra yard on the play. Like as soon as he lands he's almost immediately tackled, the universe is like "yeah man that was super cool, but there's a game of football going on and you're about to be hit by a 300 pound full grown man"
@griffinhays20533 күн бұрын
I came to say the exact same thing like it was awesome and viral and, as far as the game itself was concerned, entirely insignificant
@jerrythercy44393 күн бұрын
a rb averaging 4 yds a clip is respectable. But not 3 yds…that one extra yd is what seperates the legendary from the good ones…in a world of millionaires sitting on their salaries, we should appreciate the ones able and willing to go the extra yard
@Xemyr3 күн бұрын
I think - I think this undersells how much the hurdle gained, to be fair. If he doesn't do it he probably gets hit while turning backwards and ends up at the 34 instead of the 30. It's still A LOT of effort for a reception that was already a first down but it was an additional 30% or so on the run.
@bencheevers66933 күн бұрын

I live in Jacksonville. Ive been a jags fan since their inception. This is the coolest thing to ever happen to the Jags. Thats the thing eveyrone leaves out of talking about this. He has already done 1 or 2 other incredible moves to avoid other tacklers. They mentioned his momentum had him already going kind of backwards. The reason he is like that is because he put a spin move on soneone else.

I like it too, but I think it could have been nice if they edited in clips of what they're referring to at times. Like Bill Gates jumping the chair. Although, I'll admit that I'm spoiled in this department because a streamer I watch too much has a guy pulling up clips like that in real time before the streamer even finishes his sentence.

There's something to be said in the field of photography in general about photos that look staged but weren't. And some of the best photographers are the ones that get lucky enough to have their 30th of a second (or whatever fraction exposure) be the exact right one. It's somewhat of a lost art now that we have high-speed high-resolution video cameras that can create any freeze frame you want, which is why some of those older shots-like the Bobby Orr one, for instance-are so impressive.

Going high as a runner is always a danger, never a survivalist instinct. I tried this maneuver twice once in pony football once in high school football once resulted in a severe concussion as a player tackling me came up at the last second, the second concluded in an epic Don Bebbe fall crown of head to the turf with my neck acting as shock absorber. On the first play I remember the kid who hit me head-to-head being carted off in an ambulance while I passed out three plays later. Later my dad told me he was proud of me cuz I didn't get carted off the field. In the don Bebbe incident, I remember landing and automatically assuming I was paralyzed. Luckily I walked away unscathed from that one. I incurred about a dozen concussions playing football and little league in high school, my memory is pretty well shot, but it was fun at the time. My voice to saquon ..,..,stop hurdling

Before this, Saquon's most impressive hurdle was in college against Iowa in 2017. He jumped straight over a man, got hit in the legs mid-air by another defender, and landed on his feet for a few extra yards. But it was frontways, so still less impressive.
