We 'fell' into this industry some years ago, starting with a Bernina sewing machine with an embroidery kit. We're still a part time home business with word of mouth marketing only, but we now have 2 commercial single head embroidery machines, 2 vinyl cutters, heat press machines and a solvent print and cut machine. And like the gentle man being interviewed, not much spare time! Great interview.

@crazyoldworld79463 жыл бұрын
@@UpFlip It's one of those tricky things where my wife and I both work and given the crazy world we live in right now the risk to jump into this full time would be a little too much. A bit like grabbing a tiger by the tail, but it is something we discuss. As to marketing, the website would be the quickest and easiest upgrade. Word of mouth and the relying on quality output, personal service and getting the job done on time is the first part of the road to success. We often catch the 'second round' sale when a client realises the larger supplier is charging the same or more and often using inferior garments. Schools are a great source of sales, but beware organising committees, you have to keep them focused or it can be like herding cats into a cage!

I would say the hardest parts about this POD business are: - A decent website, in which we have been working for the past few months but its still in progress and you have to invest LOTS of money into this - Trusted source of blank apparel and goods to embroider/print on. - Will to continue. @@samkotiach5403 that’s why you get rid of those employees. Those are liabilities. It’s no hard feelings, it’s business. The employee has to fit the job and the job has to fit the employee. We have 15 employees now. It took us a while to go through our employees, analyze them, and see if we’re a good fit. We’ve let go of plenty. Now we have a solid team and everyone loves it here. We have company outings, bonuses, etc. Those 15 people are assets to this company and will make my company grow. Anytime we see someone slacking or not being a team player, we have a review and make a decision to get rid of them or see if they will change. It’s all about building an A team.

One thing we are all missing is Artum is from another country and a totally different language (Russian?) which is not easy to adapt to USA and be articulate enough for a sales call. Think of the extra work and time he has had to put in to get that aspect of his business to a level where he can not only communicate but build trust. That takes a lot of courage to jump in and also learn to adapt to a different culture. We’ve been looking for a video like this for awhile. Tons of great information for startups. I have a question for you. You said that you would contact potential customers to see if you could send them a sample package or something. What kind of a sample package do you send to potential customers? Do you send this package to every potential customer? What do you suggest that we include in the sample package? Thx in advance.
@UpFlip Жыл бұрын
Sample packages would include a few sample prints in different sizing. These packages are available upon request but also up to you if you prefer sending out free samples. ☺️
