Chris Walker is a very honest and genuine bloke and certainly knows his stuff about motorbikes. Brilliant Dealership 👍

Great chat with Mr Walker, why does the music break have to be so loud it scares the birds in the trees outside my house, wakes up the wife in front of Emmerdale across the other side of the room too. Set conversation to a pleasant 65 decibels then the music comes in at 130 decibels like Kevin Shwantz with a straight through pipe on his 500 Suzuki

Glad you opened the topic: The intro music - sheesh! Loud and unpleasant. I can deal with the style, but it doesn't need to so loud.

the answer i'm almost certain of is because their under 30 video editor (maybe under 25? im guessing?) uses a headset for almost everything, editing included, and perhaps forgets the effects of a particularly exuberant dynamic range on the big ol' speaker systems/unmuted iphones/tv sets of our ageing fellow motorcyclist friends :) signed, a 27 year old video editor and audio engineer

Would be nicer if there was a little more detail on what to look for/how properly check some of the items on the list or perhaps a good home checklist?

I appreciate the topic and the reminder to look after your machine ... some specifics would be a good addition: chain adjustment and cleaning, clutch lever adjustment, recommended coolant, and so on. Don't get me wrong, pretty much any chat about bikes is entertaining.

Take care of your bike, and it takes care of you! But you don't need to go to a shop for it, all you need is a couple of youtube videos and an owners manual. Saves a ton of money, learn new skills, and lets you get to know the bike through and through. Have to say Im again a bit disappointing with the video (as with others in the 'secrets of a road tester' series). Was expecting to actually hear the checks people can/should do on their bike regularly and how to do these, would help a ton of people to do it themselves. This was more of a PSA + Commercial for chris walker kawasaki dealership...

As a rider with over 45 years of experience in all formats. It really does amaze me with the younger generation of riders and an increase in the lack of the basic knowledge regarding these checks. Perhaps it’s part due to fuel injection and rider aids available today? Instead of whilst your bike was warming up on choke, when you had more time prior to riding to go over the bike instead of the constant rush?

There were shockingly poorly maintained bikes 40 years ago, some didn't see a spanner from one MOT to another, that's if they were MOT'd, and us kids didn't always have a lot of mechanical knowledge, although we thought we knew what we were doing, the bikes probably would have run better and been safer if we hadn't gone near them with a spanner. However our local bike shop mechanic always seemed to have time to fix our f'ups after giving us a load of verbal abuse and there was a large community of local bikers who seemed to have a fully equipped workshop in their garden sheds and they would take pity on us and show us the correct way to look after our bikes, not sure if too many of the older bikers try and help now or even have the facility or skill to do so, as most seem to have newish bikes that are dealer serviced and the local bike shops are far and few between.

I don't think its about younger generation, but engines now are more complicated, tied with electronics which is more intimidating and there is steeper learning curve. Just like cars, motorcycles are made to be riden without any technical knowledge needed and made quite reliable where you don't really encounter issues. My 4 year old motorcycle has 20k miles and all I changed was chain and tyres + scheduled maintenance, there is still original battery in that thing without any hint of issues.

@@witchdoctor6502 The video was just covering the basics, pre-start checks. NOT a DIY home workshop! This is the part I was referring to with the current generation as in general they aren’t taught the basics for the reasons mentioned above. I don’t conduct any log book services on any vehicle as why would you when it would void a warranty. Basics guys. Tyres, chain, oil etc. the simple stuff. Perhaps reread my original comment in relation to what the video was about instead of your own personal experiences. As in my experience I’ve never done anything apart from just the basics and left servicing requirements be handled by experts. Even with 80’s and 90’s to keep the warranties intact you still need the log books ticked by trained professionals. OMG.

Done a comprehensive survey on the mechanical aptitude of younger generation riders have you mate?

@@IN_ZANE_Tell me about this “comprehensive” survey. It always intrigues me when I hear this. Let’s stick to the basics here which is all this is about. Yes, no doubt a lot have a bit of OCD when it comes to cleaning and maintenance which is a great thing.
