This video misses the exact questions that I think most people would have on bike setup. Anyone can read a manual to determine how to modify the settings, how these settings affect the ride are always "Too deep of a topic to cover, will take ages". What should sag be and how does it affect the ride. How does compression and rebound affect your ride? The comment that 'Manufacturers know best' is really misleading. Manufacturers calibrate to a weight range that is quiet honestly pretty narrow. Your bike needs to be setup for you and will more likely than not deviate from manuf settings.

This is amazing! I know all of this info, but it is still great to have this series in case I missed something. Again, just a pleasure watching and listening to Neevesey! Thank you!

Wow. Yet another MCN video without captions. When 44 Teeth, Neevesy, Bike, Bennetts and literally every single other bike channel has managed to push one button to enable them. It's a great thing to have a great visual editor. It's another thing to tech him how to push a button😂

You could (and should) have adjusted sag, it'd be fast and educational

I think it is criminal that bike shops do not adjust sag to suit the new owner as part of the sale.

Don´t forget that one end of the rod for gear shifter is left hand thread (the one with notches on). Easy for a novice to ruin the rod if forced the wrong way. Yes, the other end is right hand threaded :-)

Neevesey! Thanks for the videos as always. I would caution about resetting to stock suspension settings as the oil may have degraded and therefore stock settings may not be good in fact. Maybe better to show how to know if it's way off. And recommend taking it to a suspension expert to help set up for your weight.

Checking your tire pressure is the best thing you can do to keep yourself upright and in control. Low tire pressure can cause wobbly handling and unpredictable cornering. Cold weather will lower your pressure. Hot weather will increase it a bit. Suspension settings are important but it's usually a 'set and forget' thing unless you ride track days or expect to travel on extremely nasty roads where a softer setting might save your body from a beating. Michael is a great mentor to his mates and is looking to teach you noobs some basic setup for comfort and control. Listen up and do this. You may be surprised how much difference a few adjustments can make. Excellent tutorial.

You should mention you have to adjust both forks, not just one side. You should also stress the adjustment points vary from bike to bike; for example, the shock on mu Ducati is upside down to the BMW shown, so compression and rebound adjustment happens on the other end.

We had a racing mechanic visit our bike club and he set up my suspension. It was some way off factory settings. But I've got no idea what to change when I have a pillion. Worth a video?
@loftyintentions19856 ай бұрын
You would need to stiffen your rear preload. Mine is maxed out for solo riding but I probably need stiffer springs as I'm a little heavier than most. Do a search for Dave Moss. This guy reads tyre wear like tea leaves and his videos will help you understand and set your preload. The user manual should give you the correct numbers for carrying a pillion.

I have never ridden anything sportier than an old cbr600 and a vfr750 - but I find it crazy how he naturally reaches for the brake lever with all four fingers on an s1000rr?
@theant98216 ай бұрын
Yeah, 2 fingers in the dry, 1 in the rain on my sv650, ducati 749 and both cbr600rr ive had. The second cbr600rr did need a handful when i got it but its a shitty abs system full of 10 year old fluid and air. (Honda want 5 hours to fully drain and refill the entire abs system, the garages that say 45 quid are not doing the full system they're only bleeding half of the system on the old c abs Honda system anyway). Hence the horror stories of FSH c-abs bikes lever going to the bar. With new lines and new fluid it brakes as it should. 2 fingers most of the time.

@@mikes.8305 Probably lots of videos about bars and pegs as well. It would be nice to have had a bit more on suspension setup, beyond ‘set it to what it says in the manual’. Maybe a topic for another video.

The basic set up, levers, pedals etc. should really be done by the dealer when you pick the bike up.
@tHaH4x0r6 ай бұрын
Love your videos, and you are an absolute well of knowledge Neeves, but calling it 'bike setup' is a bit of a misleading title to be honest. Control settings were great, but all you guys did for the suspension is put things back to the factory settings. Most bikes come with very weird factory suspension setups (most have notoriously soft suspension, especially on the rear), and having a guide to actually properly setup suspension would be great. Kind of similar to what Riemann has done in some of his videos (except those are offroad focused).

Sorry to sound like a dick, but if he's (really) not "confident" enough to use an Allan key to adjust levers, it worries me that he's riding an S1000RR! 😮😂. Glad he has his hands and feet in an optimal position now 🫣🤯
@RyanJamesODonnell6 ай бұрын
i think it's pretty clear his issue is not wanting to mess up a set up that he is comfortable with, even if it's not perfect, and not the "how to" of using an Allen key...
