The best thing on a naked bike is hand guards. I also like my 'two fingered' winter gloves. On the feet I wear waterproof leather boots with a good pair of thermal socks. Good to see you enjoy the winter ride. In England the worst is that the roads will be covered in salt.

My wife and I both ride in cold weather as well and we don't own any heated gear. Proper layers and quality gear make a huge difference. We once rode over an hour and a half each way in temps that started at 18 degrees F. We live in southeastern NY state along the Delaware river. Love your channel.

Its 23 degrees here today too, but its Celsius not F, of course I'm out riding. Dry and cold doesn't faze me, but ice, no way, we get a lot if black ice here in winter. Impossible to see and not worth the risk riding in those conditions

i tried to walk around my neighborhood filming a big snow years ago and only made it half way around the block,new batteries completely died! Most batteries perform best at a temperature between 20-25 degrees Celsius. The chemical reactions inside the battery slow down in colder temperatures which is why they drain faster in winter.

i have never laid a bike up for the winter. use a battery conditioner if you cant use it every week while the temp is freezing. i start my meteor and let it run without throttle for a full two minutes.before moving off.even then dont race the engine.

I have broken both wrists twice due to, shall we say, 'distracted car drivers' hence I have quite poor circulation in my hands with fingers constantly going numb and needing a regular shake in all weathers so the temp really affects my hands now and I find Oxford heated grips a huge boon in the winter months! I've only had them flat out once but they go up to 11 and would roast a chestnut I tell ya..

Great video. My meteor was delivered on the 12 January, I was originally told it was coming in March. So I have to use it, it is around 3c here and it's cold on the bike. I noticed you have no screen, my screen just seem to funnel the wind onto my helmet, after around an hour it becomes unbearable. I tried it with the screen off and it was slightly better, no noise upto around 35mph then noisy, but clean air noise. I ride in my normal clothing, I have no special motorcycle gear except reinforced trousers, I have just come back from a 25 mile ride, I'm a bit cold but nothing serious. I have put only 70 miles on the bike on its way to the 300 for the first service. Keep up the good work.

Thank you for this! Like you, I love the RE Meteor 350, and I would like to ride more. Not only that, I'm looking to do a road trip on my Meteor to visit my brother in Tampa, FL. Because FL gets hot after early-mid May; because it's cold where I am; I was going to set out in mid-late March. Where I am, it's cold in the mornings, so cold weather riding is something I'll need to do in the early part of my road trip. To prepare for that, I've been riding even when it's in the 40s outside. Once I get down towards the Carolinas, things will warm up a bit. But yeah, I'm doing experiments to figure out what I'll need to start my trip in March...

Great tips, and I ride just as long as the road conditions allow it, if there is ice and snow I rather stay warm at home. For clothing I use silk gloves and underwear, used to ride my bicycle year round and in winter with these silk gear I could resist cold weather, I recently bought some thermal underwear, long trousers and long sleeve shirt special designed for motorcycle ride and they are good, the main principle is to dress in layers 2 or 3 thin layers are warmer than one heavy one. so first the silk than the thermal, the normal clothing than extra layer and you are set.

Before riding motorcycles year round, I road my bicycle year round. I learned a lot from that that transferred well over to the motorcycle. Layers are the way to go. I wear my summer protective gear all year and just layer around it for the cold and wet (except boots and gloves).

Hi from Belgium. My English is just ok and i don't use any translation software, sorry if i make some typing mistakes. I have buyed a Meteor 350 thanks to your video's and man i love this bike so much. Just wanna say: don't be afraid of your front brake, not even in cold conditions. Your front tyre get more grip when you use it, when the rubber is pressed into the ground the grip get better. On the rear brake, ther is not much weight and this wheel will block very easy. Other then that, verry good advise. Thank you sir
@OlManRonin3 жыл бұрын
Of course no fear in using front brake, just not as much and when incorporating engine braking a slow and steady stop is what you should strive for. Which is why I said use more rear brake than front similar to what you do in heavy mud, sand and loose gravel. If you apply too much front in those areas, you'll end up on your butt! lol Great comment Danny and much appreciated. Cheers

Thank you for an excellent and informative video :-) Further to the very good advice already given I would strongly urge all riders to make sure your clutch cable is properly lubricated before the onset of winter. If water gets into the clutch cable and freezes your clutch will not function. I have a device that clamps round one end of a control cable. The straw from a can of chain lube goes into the device so I can squirt the lube through the cable. There are many ways to successfully lubricate control cables so use what works for you. N.B. On modern motorcycles the throttle cables are usually designed to work "dry", i.e. without any lubrication. Never had a problem with frozen throttle cables on anything I've ridden that was made in the last 40 years or so. If you are not sure which bits need lubricating and how to do it please refer to your motorcycle's service manual or consult a qualified engineer. In freezing conditions be especially wary of junctions particularly those controlled by traffic lights. The heat from the engines of vehicles waiting at the junction melts the ice/snow on the road which then freezes into a slick patch that you may have to stop on. There is also the added fun of any oil that may have leaked onto it before you get there. If you have never ridden in winter before allow ten to twenty times your normal braking distance. If you know the temperature is below freezing and the road ahead looks "wet" that's ice! If you can see rainbow patterns on the road that's spilled diesel. Try not to ride on it. As mentioned in the video cold is a killer. If you are cold and hungry your reaction time slows right down. This can just as dangerous as riding while drunk! Always wear appropriate clothing for the weather conditions. Multiple thin layers of clothing (with air trapped between them) is more effective than one thick layer. Also, make sure you have a decent meal before you venture out into wintery weather. I too have never bothered with electrically heated riding gear though I have occasionally made use of the disposable hand warmers that are available from camping stores everywhere. They look like big tea bags and work for at least 8 hours. A couple of them beneath your clothing but not next to the skin can make a real difference particularly if the bike you are riding does not have a screen. With proper preparation and a little forethought a ride in winter is transformed from a grim test of stamina and endurance into a thoroughly pleasurable experience.

Like you, I just love riding so the motorcycle is my transportation year round except on ❄ and 🧊 days. Living where I do that's maybe a couple weeks a year. As I get older my hands don't handle the cold as well. I've hear of using the little rubber gloves if you get caught out in the rain with summer gloves, but thought the big water proof winter gloves where wind proof. I will have to give that a try; thank you for the tip. I wear non-breathable rain gear for wind protection even when it's not raining in cold weather.

Mr. Ronan I have a perplexing situation with my meteor 350. Did an oil change and refilled my oil while it was on the center stand and level. Filled it up to the second mark on the window. (Used about the recommended amount 1.7 L) Went for a 40 mile ride came back and the window was completely full so I let the engine cool overnight and still its completely full. so I drained out some excess oil brought the level back down to the correct position on the site glass ,started the engine drove it a few houses up the street came back put it back on the center stand now it’s showing that it is low on oil. any thoughts?
@OlManRonin3 жыл бұрын
Well I seldom follow guidelines as you could see in my Himalayan oil change video, simply because things could be different every time you change oil. I instead, fill the oil close to what they say and after a warm up I recheck and fill more if need be. Word of advice, run you bike up to speeds, let it set a few minutes, and recheck then, according to the little window. if its over the glass drain some out until it meets factory specs. Also, make sure you're on a level surface that means alot
@zachsweet84673 жыл бұрын
@@OlManRonin Yes you are correct I think the problem was originally I did not get the engine hot enough before I changed the oil so I was getting a false reading on the site glass. And apparently if you just run it for a few minutes the oil gets thrown all over the top part of the engine and takes much longer to drain down.

Welcome to the channel. I have no experience on the Classic 350 as of yet, they aren't in North America at this time. This Spring I hope. But what I've seen, the Classic has more of an upright stance with mid controls. I suggest you sit on both and see which feels the best. I prefer cruiser style personally, but you might like the more British style of the Classic. Good luck on whichever you decide and thank you for watching and subscribing Cheers
