Ngl I see a bit of a connection with Harry and Jacob. Harry got his invisibility cloak on Christmas, as well as other beloved things. Jacob, when he was asked how he got his wand by students at Hogwarts, he smiles and casually said he got it for christmas. Something really funny to me. Also I love how the name of the film "Secrets of Dumbledore" did not refer to just Albus, but all three living Dumbledores. We learned more about the blood pact made between Albus and Grindlewald. We learn a secret about Ariana. We Learn that Aberforth had loved and had a son, who was Credence. The title made it seem that it would just be Albus, but no it was about the family and many dark secrets they had as well as some brighter ones.

I think this movie redeemed the series after the confusing Crimes of Grindelwald. It had less plots going on concurrently and it was fun, funny and moving. The encounters between Dumbledore and Grindelwald were of extremely good taste and sad at the same time. The Credence - Abeforth exchange was so emotional I really loved it. But I thing if people go in expecting to have it all explained it will feel like a blunter. The HP series had the books as a back up like a fill in the blanks. I had not read all books before watching the movies back then and the movies always felt somehow incomplete with unanswered questions. I would love if JK Rowling wrote actual books to support and explain it all but that will be impossible. I agree with the plot holes pointed out and it is disappointing but overall it made me want to see more. I don’t have expectations of this series ever be like the original HP but I felt the nostalgia and I liked to see other characters, other wizards from different countries, different beasts. Mads was such a great Grindelwald! I was bummed Johnny Depp left but then comparing the two he looks more of a leader than a crazy lunatic like Depp made him feel like. And since he is not the same villain type pure evil as Voldemort was it is perfect. Comparing the two villains and saying he’s not well written because he is not as evil as Voldemort is just plain dumb. It would be like copy cat if that was the case. Anyhow, I really hope there’s more to come and people go watch the movie! 🙂

Dumbledore acts accordingly to what he knows he’s ought to do and he takes the consequences and doesn’t go for what he could because of his powers or anything. This made me think that maybe that’s why the quilin bowed to him. He isn’t perfect - by all means, and not pure of heart, but he tries to good and acts with a great sense of altruism which maybe is essential to become purer by heart
@Moesworld4852 жыл бұрын
@@Pauline-qn1et yes agreed. That's how I was seeing it. He was willing to do whatever it took atone for his passed mistake. In the Qilin eyes that was a pure and honorable quality worthy of leading the magical world to do good and be good. I think Dumbledore being able to apparate in hogwarts points out the Headmaster is able to do so, and... yea, kinda obvious, isn't it? And the charm that protects Hogwarts could be subjective to a Muggle being invited, since the body of Myrtle was retrieved by her muggle parents in Hogwarts.

I assumed with Muggles and Hogwarts was you see the ruins and signs and then like a normal person just don't go in. What was good about this movie: - Adding significant lore to HP canon - World building in general - Actors - Visuals (as always) What I didn't like compared to the other movies: - The entire movie puts it's focus on one single event, taking away the shock effect, also making the internal story of the movie less interesting - Dumbledore's Secrets? What Secrets exactly? I didn't feel like there was anything significant revealed about Dumbledore, except for maybe him breaking the Unbreakable Vow, but nothing about his personality back then. I hoped it would be centered around Dumbledore more, I thought this movie would be about his internal ideological struggle (kind of what was revealed in Book 7), however right in the first scene it becomes clear he made that decision off screen already... So Dumbledore is yet just this almost perfect person, even though there is so much potential in making his character more interesting That's why I rate this movie lower than the other Fantastic Beasts movies

We learn in Chamber of Secrets that when Myrtle was murdered her parents (muggles) came to Hogwarts to collect her body (Riddle tells hagrid this when he captures him) so it seems as if in special circumstances the anti-muggle protections can be lifted for limited numbers of people. In defence of the movie when we talk about magical rules and explanations for things ... original book fans (I read all the harry potter book twice a year even now after reading every book more than 20 times each) have a lot of knowledge going into the harry potter movies on why things work the way that they do. If you are just a movie fan, the original harry potter movies also lack a lot of explanation for the magic and the rules. I think we need to be more forgiving to these new movies for not explaining magical rules since they realistically can’t spend the whole movie explaining things. The original movies didn’t excel at this either we could just fill in the gaps with what we know from the books.

I thought both actors did an amazing job during key emotional scenes that left no doubt these two men had been in love with each other and there were still embers that burned. Despite everything, Dumbledore still calls the blood pact “beautiful” reflecting on the magic they shared. The last scene where Dumbledore can’t bring himself to go to the wedding, he is still feeling pain of a lost love. Jude Law is fantastic here. Dumbledore never loves again as far as we know, and perhaps TDH2 movie where Dumbledore gives his “Don’t pity the dead” speech he is even referring to himself here 😭 but just speculating.

I was thinking of three possibilities as to why the Killing Curse didn't instantly kill the Qilin mother: 1. Vinda was using the spell non-verbally, and as such it's power was weakened (perhaps she wanted it to suffer). This is why most other wizards say the spell when killing something/someone. 2. Qilin are somewhat resistant to the Killing Curse, like dragons are with other spells 3. She's just not experienced enough and has to use the spell multiple times

I think Jacob’s wand serves many purposes. One many woods were believed in olden times to protect against magic or evil, which is why wooden beads are so often used in rosaries and other religious objects. One of the ways these woods protected was to break enchantments, such as the ones around Hogwarts. Snakewood itself is believed to have great healing properties and Jacob is greatly in need of spiritual as well as physical healing. Also muggles are being hunted at this time, so the wand even would help hide him from those who would want to hurt him. I also like so many others felt the Qilin should have bowed to both Jacob and Newt. Of course by this time Newt has been with it for a long time, so it might have off screen.

@americansantacruz60802 жыл бұрын
I believe the reason for the suitcases being duplicated in a shop is for countersight. As for blocking the killing curse, I believe it has to do with the blood pact. The magical realm was great for the movies. We know why Credence is there, to kill him. The dialogue built from the first two movies.

Felt like there were too many characters and side plots happening and it feels unrelated to the original Fantastic Beasts movie. I wish they had never called them all "Fantastic Beasts" movies
@vivekm27572 жыл бұрын
@EM I thought that initially too, but the movies do build on top of the first Fantastic beasts film. The beasts all have interesting and pivotal moments in all the movies so far if you think about it, eg the quilins in this one along with some other scenes like the crabs or Newts bowtruckle/nifflers. Not to mention Newt is still pivotal in the entire series as someone who “never met a monster he couldn’t’ love”. This aspect of the series is a perfect metaphor to contrast the overall political climate which was already polarising due to muggles and non-magic folk being treated as beasts. The beasts here don’t just refer to the magical creatures but even No-majs like Jacob, or Obscurials like Credence and Ariana, and how beasts are simply creatures who’ve not been accepted or loved for who they are. This also explains why Newt is so important in the films, he’s one of the few people who is able to get through to even Credence, which even Dumbledore and Leta lestrange could not do for the “beasts” in their lives… It’s all very poetic in a JKR way if you think about it.

One thing that I remember critiquing about the movie after watching it for the first time was that I didn't remember if they ever actually said the name "International Confederation of Wizards" or even it's shorter version, the "ICW". As far as I remembered, they only ever referred to the election as them "electing the leader of the Wizarding World". I don't know if this was the case or if they really did mention the organisation by name, but neither me nor my girlfriend ever heard them say it. I am also not sure how I feel about Dumbledore turning down the position when the Kirin bowed to him, since we know that he holds the position in Harry's time. Having him turn down the position in this movie feels kind of pointless since we know that he eventually accepts it, so why not just have him accept it here when it was literally thrust upon him? It would've been a nice callback to Dumbledore telling Harry that "perhaps those who are best suited to power are those who have never sought it. Those who have leadership thrust upon them and take up the mantle because they must". It is in character for Dumbledore to reject power when the Kirin bowed to him, but Dumbledore in this case didn't seek power or leadership so it would've been a nice callback, and it would've closed the not-quite-plothole-but-still-stupid-kind-of-hypocrisy that Dumbledore claimed that he rejected the position of Minister of Magic 4 times because he didn't want power, when he literally was the Supreme Mugwump of the ICW for who knows how long. Having him take up the position here because of the Kirin and because he was the only one who could lead them against Grindelwald would've made him having the position later on make a bit more sense given his stance on seeking and accepting power.
