Channel 4 News presenter Krishnan Guru-Murthy travels across India to investigate the underbelly of the Indian economic miracle.
Underneath the glittering surface of India's economic boom lie the ugly realties of modern day India: a rise in Hindu nationalism, discrimination against Muslims and a caste system which condemns millions to a life of servitude.

@KyLe_McCaLLuM no he isn't, the documentary is 15-16 years old. India is carrying out large scale infra projects worth 1.6 Trillion USD, by 2024, from high speed railways to Expressways to Energy. Country will be transformed in the next 10-12 years (it already has, a LOT compared to the documentary).

@@ayyappanchithambaram4575 you can have big cities and still have massive amounts of poverty and human rights violations. Maybe that's what they're talking about. Personally I've never been to India so I can't speak about it on a personal level. All I have to go off of is the documentaries, news, and stories I've seen or been told. From those, it would seem there's still a lot of room for improvement, but that can apply to the whole world really. Just because a place is growing in it's international position though, doesn't necessarily mean everyone who lives within that place is benefiting from that. I'm always open to hearing directly from inhabitants of India though, because to me that's the best way to truly understand different places in the world and their people.

This video shows a really painful side of society that thrives on our indifference. This video might be extremely old but each point shared is as relevant as they were. As a bystander, a natural Indian who keeps a track of all the issues with our society, I can notice tensions building within our society. I don't know if most people are even aware of this pattern so I hope this message reaches whoever has the patience to read this while they're mindlessly scrolling through these comments. From communal violence to caste-based violence, minorities are not the only ones affected. Out of 1.3 billion people, only top 5% to 15% receive the perks of what the entire society pays for. Now, this hierarchical system has mysteriously thrived for thousands of years without invasion of foreign culture and modernization. I don't believe in any news channel's report, everyone has their own narrative. I believe in what I see when I'm out on the streets. The ground reality is very straightforward: more than 80% of the population is frustrated and has someone to blame. Everyone blames someone. In essence, we're already at war with specific enemies. It's only a matter of time when people start a chain reaction that will lead to a domino effect. And the current government is making it worse for everyone else whether we like it or not.

@prajvalrao4871 3 жыл бұрын
@John DelVento Actually, Indians care - cause mainstream media isn't reporting India with neutrality. Asians care as Asia has been portrayed as a dumpster pile, even in the last decade. And you definitely care, as you are watching a video which has already expired. According to research, India will be a Middle Income country in the next decade or, at the most, the next two decades, given that pandemics or atrocities don't take place again. Do you think that a country which is close to being a middle income country would look like this? India has changed, and will change. So, when you say that "Nobody cares", it exposes that you are wasting time watching this video. It also exposes that you are ignoring the true facts, just like India's colonizers (Britain).

Also, people aren't fools - they can take a documentary as intended and consider it's time period.

Why would anyone stay in a religion where they are treated badly. The current government doesn't like that their own Hindu people are changing religions because the only reason the Hindu nationalist party is in power is because they have a majority. The BEST side of INDIA is when assistance is given to smart honest people who focus on GROWTH & AFFLUENCE. The worst is when people are hermits and trapped in their little bubble thinking of central government solving all their problems.

Great video. Sad to see so much discrimination, by religion or ther caste system. The caste system was proposed in ancient religious books of hinduism, so it is very deep in india mind, for centuries, Budhism tried to change that, but you are not prophet in your land... and upper class always want to continue being upper class....

I'm Indian. India is a Secular country. I appreciate this channel doing well all over across world. But the one thing "Real Stories" channel misses is RSS wants to be India a Hindu Rashtra but they are against all religion like Chritianism, Sikhism, Baudha, Dalits not only Muslims. Brahman's are behaving untouched with Dalits and they think Dalits are the worst creation of universe. They saw a dream to make India becomes a Hindu Nation where Dalits looses its all rights of doing higher and good jobs. But specially RSS bigotry is against Muslims. The only reason of Muslims and Sikhs custom of untouched isn't anymore in India. So RSS bigotry against Muslims are more than other religions and Dalits. Hope this information were left by fault. I'm regular viewer of this channel, and I know this channel doing best. I saw many documentaries of poverty and other problems of country like Romania, Ukraine, USA, England, Afghanistan, India and many European countries. Really I appreciate again please make this kind of video to inspire people in life. Many documentaries inspired me and change my life. Thank you so much again and I apologize if any mistakes happened by me.
