Enjoyed that, thanks. I recently converted my own car’s waist seals to the BMW mini version. Being a Coupe it doesn’t work quite as well as the Convertible, however after some fettling it came up rather nice.

Hello John, thanks for the entertaining and informative content. I’m currently interested in replacing the waist seals on my Coupe but after searching the internet I find that yet again it’s your site that promises a possible solution. Seasonal greetings to you and your family and may 2022 be a good year for all of us.

I didn't order a calendar this year because for every appointment last year I was a day off. Only biblical texts end weeks on Sunday. Your videos so far have captured the low hanging fruit. Now we dig into the seriously esoteric. I can't wait. Anyone wearing an A2 bomber jacket is okay by me.

Ooo I forget you pilot chaps have a keen eye for classic fashions. I owned an Irwin sheepskin flying jacket when I used to drive the Healy replica (rubbish heater, draughty hood) Currently have an A2 esque lambskin bomber, (actually a red arrows standard issue inspired jacket) and a 3/4 length 'Hide park' Walker jacket.

John, I recently discovered your channel and I have one complaint: I just spent three days watching your fantastic videos nonstop, neglecting work, family and friends. I've learned so much! Thank you! I was going to suggest a topic but in this video you said your '96 doesn't have a dim-able interior mirror. My '98 does but it stopped working. If you have any tips anyway, maybe it would be an interesting subject.
@ToTheGarage2 жыл бұрын
Hi Preuit, and welcome to the gang. I have lots of questions about the interior mirror and unfortunately Purdey is not equipped with one😔. Is there anyone else out there who can give advice on the mirror, or better still if they did a little video (landscape on their phone is fine) and sent it to me, I would be more than happy to share it on the channel.👍👍👍

Evening John, Terrific update on what to expect for next year...as always, your hard work is much appreciated. A few comments: 1) While watching your explanation of where the lock/unlock antenna is located, the photograph of the silver XKR convertible immediately caught my attention. My first thought was "wow, what a nice looking car"; my second thought was "hey, that's MY car!" Thanks so much for using the photograph; though not making the calendar is still an open wound, your using its picture provided salve and solace. 2) Great idea soliciting input from the lady owners; very much looking forward to hearing their views. 3) For those of us in the colonies, could you explain the etymology behind your "knocked me for six" comment"? Happy holidays to you and the family.

to> kuddlesworth NA... for your limp home mode fault... Remove and resistance check your temp sensor and check if in limits with the jag manual ohmmeter readings and thermometer, do the cooling fans run up? does the temp gauge fluctuate? You can resistance check the wires temp sensor to your ECU using a ohmmeter. Also temperature test your thermostat using a thermometer, remove then heat up water in a metal container on the hob ,check opening temp if in limits. Clean out the debris from the thermostat housing cooling vent pipes running to your cooling header tank and radiator. Flush out the radiator. Lastly if all above pass good.. then suspect you may have a heat induced intermittant ECU fault - probably failing capacitor. open the ECU case and check for weeping leaking stains/ failed soldered joints.

Hi John, that thing about the con rods was interesting, didn't know that we have sintered con rods! thinking about tuned intake runners- a good example for going to extremes might be the L98 "Tuned Port Injection" 5.7ltr C4 Corvette engine, which has bags of torque low down and peak power at 4000rpm. happy holidays!
@ToTheGarage2 жыл бұрын
I find Torque more interesting than BHP most of the time as its the torque that makes power feel effortless rather than strained.

@@ToTheGarage agree very much indeed! that's what makes the difference... I've got a 300CE Mercedes in my stables, a very quick and pretty car, in her own right, very much an Autobahn express. but the 3ltr straight six needs revs to light her fire, nothing much happening below 2500. the XK8's big V8 by comparison pulls like a locomotive even below 2000. very much effortless, refined power...

Hi John. I;m a long time subscriber and have gotten a lot of enjoyment and knowledge from your episodes. I would like to replace my improperly functioning rearview self dimming mirror but haven't asked you about it as I knew your car does not have that feature. I asked my mechanic to remove it so we could verify what wiring it has but he was afraid of breaking the windshield in the removal. I have a new problem in that the latch pins on the glove box stick in the in position preventing it from latching closed. I am trying to understand how to disassemble and lubricate. I have a friend who has three Jags and his wife drives the XK. As an ex rally driver she throws it round better than most men. There is a bit of a sexist attitude in the motor business and I love to hear from ladies who can put men to the test when it comes to handling a Big Cat. @Punisher94192 жыл бұрын
My car throws a P0116 code every now and then, it's a bit annoying because it goes into limp home mode. The manuals say it's either the coolant temp sensor, it's wires or the faulty thermostat. I replaced the sensor last year for the same problem but it's happening again. I don't know if it's actually the sensor though. It only really happens once the car gets up to temp on long trips.

@@greatbrit2334 I think I have tracked it down to the thermostat being open all the time. The car doesn't warm up very fast or much at all. After a 20 minute drive at around 60mph it gets to about 70C, highest I have got it up to is 88C which was about an hours drive at around 5-10C ambient.
@greatbrit23342 жыл бұрын
@@Punisher9419 .hope the thermostat swop fixes it. recommend you buy a OEM jag part rather than a cheap pattern part thermostat. OEM last longer. you probably know that the ODBII code reader should display your coolant temperature ( if your ECU is serviceable it will be the correct coolant reading-but if ECU faulted it will lie to you). hence best to check temps off the car using a thermometer and data from JTIS. on mine, when up to temperature you should be getting around 88C to 95c when the fan kicks in. I am in Asia, so hot the cooling system has to be in top order. my car is a early 1996 and needed most of the cooling system parts serviced. temp sensor was out of limits for JTIS resistance readings. thermostat late opening(lasts about 5 years). header tank pressure cap blocked-over pressurizing the system. vent lines clogged and the ECU was giving false readings to the temp gauge fluctuating and fan not kicking in! the ECU will give the signal for limp mode. hopefully you dont have multiple faults on yours. but always good to check it though.
@Punisher94192 жыл бұрын
@@greatbrit2334 I got the newest thermostat for the car from Moss Europe. It wasn't a cheapo one, I think about £20 or so. I checked the temp sensor at ambient which it was correct bang on so I think it's OK there. When I take out the old thermostat I will know if it's faulty or not probably. At least it's not closed shut because then I would have a problem.
