Exodus is a fictitious origin story created around the 6th century BCE. The creators didn't think people would fact check the stories, so attention to detail wasn't a concern. They were focused on making it believable to folks of the time. The goal of the religion was to get folks to abide by a set of cultural laws, so they borrowed from existing religions in the area to provide supernatural authority for those laws. Laws based on the authority of rulers wasn't working out so well once the rulers perished. Monotheism solved the competition for authority and resources problems inherent in Polytheism. While the approach was clever for its day, the downside is it can't grow with human understanding of reality.

Thank you for your comment. It's a popular theory. The Ketef Hinnom Amulets date to 600 BC (or earlier) and quote from Numbers 6:24-26 and Deuteronomy 7:9, indicating that they had to have been written before the 6th century. There are also strong parallels between the Bible and other ancient writings like the Gilgamesh Epic date much earlier than the 6th century. Finally, customs, measures, place, names and currency all indicate an early date for the original writing of many books of the Bible, editorial additions notwithstanding.

@@diggingupthebible Even if the Gezer calendar (10th century BCE) is paleo-Hebrew; nearby Sumerian, Akkadian, and Eblaite religious writings predate Hebrew writings by at least 1,000 years. El was the creator god of the ancestral Canaanite people, Yahweh to the Israelites. The nearby folks didn't borrow from the Israelites, it's the other way around according to date-able material. What is now Israel was ruled by Egypt up till 1189 BCE, so escaping Egypt to the north would put you in modern day Syria or Turkiye. By 1000 BCE Egypt shrunk in the north to the west side of the Sinia Peninsula. Options are the Author(s) of Exodus used the 1000 BCE and later border, or folks have been looking far too south for the evidence.

So zero artifacts of the Exodus. These are real ancient artifacts, but in no way related to the Exodus of the Bible.

Thanks for the comment. I agree that some are only indirectly related (like the Rosetta Stone), but some are directly related - ie. the Moses inscription.

Petrovich's interpretations of the proto-Canaanite inscriptions on the Serabit el-Khadim artifacts are not accepted by the vast majority of scholars in his field.
