I couldn't agree more, Gareth. I, too, don't spend enough time behind the wheel, however John does tend to show things that I didn't know and that I need to confirm on my car. My neighbours (if I had any close enough) would wonder why at 8 pm on a cold damp night the nutter is sitting in his car, with a torch, staring at the instrument cluster! At least it gets me out of the house. Thank you John.

About 15ish years ago I order some aftermarket instrument rings and found the speedo ring was a bit loose. Simply added a layer of tape and twisted right in. Now I know why there was extra room. Always great stuff. Thanks again.

Another interesting “secrets of” John. Your comment at 10.05 concerning aircraft instruments got me thinking; having spent some 20000 + hours over 30 years looking at aircraft instruments ( sometimes quite intensely) I never noticed the glass surface finish. I was normally more interested in what the pointers were telling me. Just going to check my glass/Perspex now. Happy NewYear to you, Growler and the rest of the family.

Fun to watch as always - thanks for the interesting insights! I love those details and I love the dashboard of the XK8! Can there be a lovelier place than behind the steering wheel of an X100? I don't think so ;-) And although he can't enjoy this view, I'm sure Growler is the luckiest teddy on earth :-)

Very interesting secret. I discovered that the dials aren’t equal in size when I recently fitted chrome surrounds and the center one was ever so slightly bigger than the others.....

Hi John, a bit of your expertise needed🙏 out during in my xk8 all going well, the she just died.... all the electrics ok. Turning over but not firing. When I used to turn the key I would hear a buzz which I assumed was the fuel pump, now there is no buzz..Got it recovered back home battery fully charged still no starting or pre starting buzz....any ideas would be appreciated TIA👍
@ToTheGarage4 жыл бұрын
Hi If the buzz you used to be able to hear was in the front of you then it was the throttle body motor. If it was behind you it was the fuel pump. However the fuel pumps are pretty quiet in these. Fuel pumps are known to go weak. but typically fail over a period of weeks rather than in one go. Check that the impact sensor has not been triggered or gone faulty. On early cars like mine, the reset button is in the left hand end of the dashboard behind a little hatch. Disconnect the battery for half an hour and see if everything resets.

Just a question about the lighter wood used on the steering wheel rather than the darker wood on the dash fascia. Is your wheel standard equipment ?
@ToTheGarage4 жыл бұрын
Yes its standard but quite uncommon. Early cars like mine. In sport trim like mine, actually came with a Fully black leather wheel. My car has the upgraded 'Wood Sport Wheel'

was wondering if u can help...my xk8 has the ticking noise under the left wheel well and it has started throw misfire codes like crazy hard starts etc but once it gets going it runs very smoothly and strong ..im assuming since i can hear the purge valve that this must be the cause of my misfires and so on any thoughts or confirmations?
@ToTheGarage4 жыл бұрын
Yes as soon as you mentioned the ticking its the purge valve that comes to mind. A new valve may be all you need. At least you have a distinct symptom to go after here rather than just occasional rough running which would have probably taken you to coils or injectors first.
