I been saying that about security for the longest time. A good majority of people that work security aren’t even cut out for the job mentally or physically. They just hire random people to fill in that hole to make money. That’s why I rather work government contracts because they’re more stricter on whom they hire. Another thing company owners don’t realize, having untrained and unqualified staff is a very big liability, especially if armed. Say there is that one percent chance there is an active shooter or a stabbing for example, your guards run and hide just like everyone else and don’t know how to react and don’t have the stop the killing and stop the dying mentality. Well that’s a major law suit on the company, the individual guards and the client. MULTIPLE to DOZENS of law suits! Trust me when I tell you as history and current modern day event has proven it, deterrence theory does not work! Maybe for teenagers and addicts doing small petty crimes but when it comes to real crimes and criminals and even terrorism, NOPE! So always check the kind of training one has too.

I just quit a company called general security & response services. It's just the Chief executive and a director running operations, only 3 field supervisors in the whole company

Safety comes first and foremost. What most people don't understand is Security Officers are present before law enforcement officials arrive for any incident. Be present, stay alert, and never underestimate anyone. Safety comes first, always. Think of it like this, there is only one you, in this entire universe. That is how special you are. Be safe.

Point 1. Police officers have many more hours of training to deal with situations they encounter. Point2. Every police officer if he pulls his gun to get the person to comply with a command -@Commander Hall It’s called lawfull. A citizen does not have the right to pull a gun to get someone to comply ( unless a life is in danger ) There is a higher level of authority the police officer is granted. That does not compare in contrast or translate into security work in many cases, if not most of them. All security guards are not mentally able to handle just simple retail store disputes , when the person calls out the security guard a rent-a-cop (out comes the gun) I have done security for 30yrs unarmed talked down and taken down many without ever having a weapon. The gun does not give me any more authority or command of presence more than my pure professionalism.

Can you believe Mr. Hall 6 months pass I don’t have any contract to work. I’m going to ad the question what company do you have to monitoring your company on internet. What’s the secret to be successful in this industry?

A lot of truth told here. However, at some point the inexperienced officer will have to obtain the experience. It’s a juggling act for sure. Does your company provide Firearms and Vests for your troops? If not, how do you handle it when the troops can’t afford to buy these items? What I’m experiencing is a rapid growth spurt and logistically you can only move your “best guys” so many times. Realistically, you have a choice in some cases, put the inexperience person out there or pass on the Contract. In a perfect world, your point is ideal. However, in the six years I’ve been in business, I haven’t found perfection yet. Our industry, like many others, have a quality labor pool we all are competing for. We have to rethink better ways to attract better candidates to our industry. This is always at the forefront of my brain. I don’t claim to have all the answers, but we operate daily in the realities of our industry. Sure, I would love to put two or more armed officers outfitted in body armor on every post, but it’s wishful thinking. Most of the clients I’m running across simply aren’t willing to fund our recommendations. What do you do then?
@TheAngrySecurityGuardChannel
@TheAngrySecurityGuardChannel Ай бұрын
Technically, it’s the company that’s supposed to fund and provide for their guards. The client really has no room on that as they just pay the company. At least where I’m at now. You own a company? Well best attraction and competition to gain better people that ACTUALLY want to better themselves in the industry would be the pay as number one of course, lol. And number two, the federal government has dozens of different type of training courses out there through several different certified and nationally recognized organizations, colleges and companies that have certified training courses from active shooter, to medical, down to awareness and prevention courses that are all 100 percent free of charge. And they come to you and train your people on your time, as well at no costs. First responder and law enforcement level training too. Maybe start looking into that as well and take some train the trainer (instructor) courses to be eligible to list and add training classes to your company. I have two of four or five classes on my community page of upcoming classes that are nationally accredited and certified and related to security “and” protection services that are DHS and others accredited and recognized. I have some that are nationally recognized at POST academies as well. Stuff you’ll never learn in a guard card class or as a licensed security guard trainer for states. So for someone like me, that would be a huge attraction for being a candidate knowing it’s not just “another” fly by night company. Sadly, I have to do it on my own and owners won’t do it and supervisors and coworkers use the, unless it’s from the company, excuses even though it’s free of cost! Or the excuse, that’s for police not security. Well, police and security training intergrade; example, I’m doing a three day law enforcement only active shooter course this week ran by an emergency management agency and the department of homeland security. On top of that, I have seven hours of POST related credits in awareness, prevention and mitigation in something. Guess what, both of those alone are law enforcement only but next classes opens up, I’m doing the train the trainer and I’ll be eligible to train security guards at a law enforcement and first responder level of skills and knowledge. Training and preparedness is number one key! Looks good for the client too. Especially covers for liability insurance. And yes, that is a big attraction to people like me that window shops for jobs. There are many others too.

If I ever resign or get terminated from current job, I’ll be posting a video on a VERY good example of companies not caring about liability and protection for their employees, hence, training. Alls I’ll say right now for something particular, thanks to a good friend very soon I’ll be the ONLY employee that will have a HUGE backing for civil liability purposes for something work related. I tried getting others and the company to do it as it legally is actually required BUT just like any other company and security guards, don’t want to do it! And it would cost them MUCH more money without me if they ever become obligated to do it! Once I get it and the client is aware of it OR it becomes a mandatory thing after a mishap occurrence one day due to not having the proper knowledge and skills, I will NOT be using my resources to help them out because they already had the chance and opportunity.

@@TheAngrySecurityGuardChannel I hear you. I'm a recently retired Law Enforcement Officer of 35 years from a Major PD in TX. I spent almost 20 years training Cops. I'm clearly aware of the training available. I was speaking on finding quality personnel to hire and ultimately train. This idea that the company should use its resources purchasing Firearms and Vests for all of its personnel is not realistic. The turnover in our Industry is too high to allocate that level of expense when you factor in we already pay for the uniforms, etc. We are having difficulty recovering these items as it is when an employee separates their employment. I can't imagine chasing people for Handguns and Custom Outfitted Vests. Currently in my small company, it costs over $800 to put ONE Security Officer on a Post. We pay at or slightly above the going rate in our area. I'm here to compete, but I'm obligated to be a good steward of company funds as well. I'm open to learning how others do it. I'll accept a good idea from anybody. I'm looking for solutions, not here to rant about how bad things are.

@@geraldd8797 got cha! Not sure about your state but clearly it’s not the same. In Tennessee if you are issued a firearm, you have 24hrs to return it after resigning or termination as it’s a felony theft charge and warrants get issued. Should look into that. Should do a contract type of thing that once employment is done and you don’t return equipment and uniforms, then you get pay deducted out of your last check and or could face civil suits for theft of property. Can always do deductibles on certain things too, maybe, so you’ll always have the funds. As for custom vests, not sure if you mean company name and or logo or the employees name. Personally, I would never do an employees name or anything. But I would get those custom made to where it can’t be removed, if possible. Or if removed it leaves a mark to where they can’t add over it without it being noticeable. It’s hard to compete with other companies because everyone says the same BS stories like, we are different than other companies.. we provide and only hire highly skilled and trained professionals.. type of stuff. Then once you start working you realize it’s the opposite, LOL. So that is a hard one for sure. Another thing for me to bait me in is the type of contracts a company has. I’ve worked a warehouse gate job, not for me. I’ve worked retail, club and hotel security, not for me (all mixed in with companies). I’ve worked federal, state and county security contracts and three times doing healthcare security. I tend to like those type of contracts better because it’s more than just observe and report or check IDs type of work and responsibilities. So that’s another thing to look at; not saying anything other than what I prefer is bad but other than money, people also look at the type of work and responsibilities that come attached. If you understand what I mean. I mean I worked a company that had a state contract and at times I would do side gigs at Publix and store managers wanted us to just sit at one door and not talk to customers or workers and do nothing if someone steals. In which proved even more the deterrence theory is false because people still stole things even with the tactical wannabe guards, LOL. And I covered shifts at a bar and alls I was to do was make sure people were 21 plus. It was and is ridiculous and the type of security work that I don’t care for. So that’s the only advices I can give on that. Money, the type of inside/ on the job training and the type of contracts/ places and responsibilities people would rather work and do. I mean, I love my current position but they lack in training, preparedness and readiness for that one percent chance, but the pay is crap. I even told them the only reason why I took the job and once I miss the driving part, I’ll go back to better paying jobs and I’m putting in my two weeks. Especially if I can land another government contract position.
