Listen, ive had both and Ring is way better. Setting everything up was super easy the app did everything. Ring is much cheaper for alarm monitoring and video storage. 100 bucks a year for Ring alarm monitoring with 60 day video storage. Nest is 300 a year with 30 days video storage. Ring has more options and is compatible everything i use. I would recommend Ring to anyone looking to buy one of these cameras or alarms.

I was going to say the same thing in their reviews of the infrared functions on the cameras. I think they had a distance issue with the Stick-up camera by Ring, and the two indoor camera reviews on the wall picking up too much IR reflection on the surfaces nearest to the camera & washing everything out in the distance.

I took it back after two false alarms in less than a week. I don’t have any pets so I have no idea why it was triggering so often. I’ve now got a ring peephole camera and I like it so far. The Nest IQ Outdoor Camera is best if your home has a cover/porch to shield it from rain and snow. I've gone through 3 camera replacements - the camera fails to power on. A lot of homeowners have had similar issues to mine. I've attached a very helpful explanation from another customer explaining the issue on google's nest website: "camera mount does not provide a waterproof seal around the USB cable and USB connector in the Nest camera. Once water enters the space, the female USB connector deteriorates rapidly causing power disruption or the "red outer ring flashing" indicating insufficient power. I have gone through 5 cameras, mounted both vertically and horizontally, and they have all failed about a week after it rains. Nest needs to fix this "weatherproofing" issue to resolve these types of problems in the future."

Personally, I have accumulated one Nest Outdoor camera which does its main purpose for what I needed it for vs 3 wired ring cameras and just purchased the Ring Peephole camera which does it own purpose. Outside of that , I just purchased a panasonic Homehawk window home monitoring and the Reolink Argust PT w/ Solar panel. In other words, i am "diversifying" my home security "portafolio" and shelling my hard earned money out the door. :P Good job on your review and you gained me as a permanent subscriber. Hello there! It seems that this is not the best idea. Mixing different systems in the hope that everything will work as it should is stupid. This isn't about playing games, it's about the security system that your life may depend on, bro. In fact, if there is an option to purchase ajax, it is best to purchase all products from ajax. The wired Nest doorbells (as well as wired Ring doorbells) are great products. HOWEVER, they don't tell you upfront that these wired doorbells all have an internal non-user-serviceable battery. IF you will be using the doorbell with a mechanical chime, just be aware that at some point, the battery inside will fail. The internal battery on these units are used to provide temporary voltage to the doorbell unit when a mechanical chime is used. When someone presses the doorbell button, power is temporarily routed away from the doorbell to the chime inside the house. The battery keeps the doorbell powered for the 1-2 seconds while this happens. Over time, this small battery will be unable to deal with the voltage drop and your doorbell will lose power and reboot itself. If you don't rely on a mechanical chime or if you use the Ring wireless chime, than it won't be an issue. If you do use a mechanical chime, depending on your environment (which includes usage rate, weather, temperature, etc.), the doorbell will stop function properly at some point in time. For most users, it seems to be somewhere between 1-3 years.

What about remotely (on Winter vacation down South) monitoring a basement boiler located in a not normally illuminated room? The boiler does have a digital readout that would show up. It would be nice to be able to see the floor of the room (no broken pipes means not water on the floor). And it's dark.

UPDATE: So from what it seems, you have to purchase a subscription for each and every camera you buy from Nest (let me know if I'm wrong, which I hope I am) which like he said can become costly especially over time & the cameras are more expensive (but are better quality) so if that's right people may go with Ring just because of that. I know people would be willing to invest more in Nest if there subscription covered all there products like Ring or at least 10 cameras per Nest Aware account. Or maybe limit the amount of cameras allowed by subscription. 5 Day Account allows 2 Cameras 10 Day Account allows 5 Cameras 30 Day Account allows 10 Cameras that would make the $300/yr worth it. Come on Google make it happen! So I can jump on the Nest Camera Train! ORIGINAL Honestly from seeing this video, I would say Nest has the better system overall but like he said cost more. All the Cameras for Nest seemed really clear, so I wouldn't mind having to pay more for the better quality. The only thing I can say good about Ring is I liked there Alarm Terminals astechic more than Nests circular Alarm Terminal and the Ring Door Bell seemed better and offered both a wireless and wired version. The fact that Ring offers both a wired and wireless options of both Camera's and Doorbells is definitely a plus, but may be a reason why the video quality somewhat lacks vs Nest's wired versions. In a perfect world I'd invest in Nest's indoor and outdoor Camera's, Nest Protect and a Ring Video Door Bell Pro. If only the companies got along, our ecosystems would be great. But if Nest can create and better doorbell I'd be all in for Nest. My only question is if I were say to get 2 outdoor Nest IQ Cams, and let's say 5 or 6 indoor Nest cams, would the top of the line $300/yr Nest Aware subscription cover all those cameras or do they have a limit of how many cameras they'll can be monitored? If so what is the limit?
@SecurityDotOrg5 жыл бұрын
Hi Sean, So technically one Nest Aware subscription only covers one camera but there are discounts for additional subscriptions of up to 50%. However, to get the discount, all the cameras need to have the same amount of cloud storage. I can't say for sure exactly what the discount will be because it's not posted anywhere on the Nest site. You can have up to 10 cameras and video doorbells per home. I agree with your statements about Nest vs. Ring. I have a written version of this video with links to reviews of each product if you're interested: bit.ly/2kpHW6D
@seanestes20045 жыл бұрын
@@SecurityDotOrg Thanks for the info, yeah having to pay a subscription rate for each camera, even at a possible 50% off is still super expensive. Especially when you think that your giving them access to cameras in your home, it's pretty ridiculous and will definitely limit people on how many cameras, if any they purchase from Nest because of their subscription policy. 😞

The biggest difference that you need to know is that Ring doorbell pro does NOT allow a continuous live feed on any device echo show or other amazon echos except on your smartphone app. If theres a motion detected or doorbell is rang, you will have to either open the app on ur phone or ask alexa to show the front door camera which takes 3-5 secs. Whereas, I have heard that Nest lets you view the live feed at all times. I have just bought my doorbell pro setup and I find this very annoying having to ask alexa to show me the front camera every single time. I will be returning this.

@tactical-daddy5 жыл бұрын
The Ring Spotlight plug in would have been a better option than the battery, it has customization motion zones and you forgot to mention the built in siren on both the battery and the wired one as well as the stick up camera. Siren is 95 dB. All in all, the best bang for your buck is Ring especially with that $10 a month plan since as I said before not only includes the alarm monitoring and cellular backup but 60 cloud recording for unlimited cameras vs Nest aware charges you per camera
@SecurityDotOrg5 жыл бұрын
Yes, although Nest Aware is actually lowering it's prices...early next year, 30 days will be $6 a month or $60 a year and 60 days will be $12 a month or $120 a year. Still more expensive than Ring but a vast improvement. Anyway, here's my written review of Ring vs. Nest for more info: bit.ly/2kpHW6D

Hi there, I liked your video as it helped me see both sides of the fence but I’m wondering if you’ve compared person detection correctly. On my nest doorbell I get the option for people or motion and I was wondering if ring did the same. I and many other people don’t do motion as it gives a lot of notifications so I’m just wondering if ring is as advanced as nest in that regard. Thank you for the great video
@SecurityDotOrg4 жыл бұрын
Hi Thomas, glad you liked the video! Only the Nest Hello has person detection; the Ring doorbells have no AI features whatsoever, so Nest is definitely more advanced in this regard. Here's a comparison of the Ring Video Doorbell 2 vs. the Ring Video Doorbell Pro vs the Nest Hello: bit.ly/2mjDAPc

Thumbs up for the video, thanks. Could you tell me if I can remove the chimes from the Ring Pro doorbell ? I just want to be able to be notified when someone is at my door via the bell push and camera initiating the App on my iPhone and then to speak with them without having to go to the door. Is this possible? My current doorbell is wired and has a chime in the hallway.

Really enjoyed these reviews and found them very informative. My biggest complaint was sound quality. The speaker speaks very well and very clearly but it seemed, at least to me, that he was louder, more pronounced and clearer when he was starting out his speech about one of the items. About half way thru til the end, you could barely hear him. He was speaking very softly. Turning up my volume solved that but then I had to quickly turn it back down when he started speaking about a different item. That became annoying after a bit because was reviewing a lot of different items. Still, a very good job.

Awesome review! I hope I didn't miss it but I thought I wanted an all Google ecosystem till I realized how expensive it was gonna be. I'm now thinking it'd be best to mix ring and nest. Nest for my thermostat and doorbell (along with my home mini's) and ring for my security. Is there a way to merge the 2 or do I need to use 2 different platforms?

You'll be able to control them with the same voice assistant (Alexa or Google Assistant) but if you combine Nest and Ring, you'll need separate apps. More info on Ring vs. Nest and their apps here: bit.ly/2kpHW6D

@@joeslacker1020 I personally always have it recording at night with the garage flood light on all night and my Nest IQ is close to it. It’s very clear. I don’t use the night vision at all. Same with the nest Doorbell, the porch light is on so it never kicks in night vision.

$10 per month for Ring includes alarm monitoring, cellular back up and cloud recording for unlimited cameras at one address. No, the Ring Video Doorbell Pro needs an existing transformer. I'd go with the Ring Video Doorbell 2 as it can be battery-operated and doesn't have any installation requirements, so you can just use it as a camera and get the chime plug in as well. Very thorough comparison, thank you. I have issues with Nest Google cameras. With the present second generation of their cameras, you can't make tailored videos to the real vital events, you only have access to the event clips that the software decides, and you thus miss vital information. Also, you don't have a timeline of events which is vital information for law enforcement officers. Even though I currently have five cameras of Nest at my place, I am instead considering buying the Ring camera for my girlfriend's house.
