Agreed. I only buy Robertson (square) drive screws, that also have phillips slots that allow either driver to be used. They also "hold" to the bit when you need to drive them in odd angles/positions. Torx are too finicky IMHO... too many sizes to keep track of and bits on-hand. You only need S1 and S2... mostly S2 for all square drive bits.

Great intel!! I have Torx Screwdrivers, mostly for my Festool Tools... Especially to change Router Bases. Have to say that 75% of the time, am using Square Drive.

In Germany we mainly use a Würth Assy screws and bit tips on professional jobsites. It's a tapered version of Torx and is the best for one handed use.

I buy only Torx these days, but I've not gone full-Sedge and given away everything else. Lotsa pocket screws I gotta use up! Also, I haven't found Torx screws in all the sizes I need. Thank gosh for driver-mounted bit holder. Really helpful stuff, guys, especially the Phillips v. Pozidriv segment.

Fantastic discussion my friend. A few years ago I went to a hundred percent stainless steel. Thus, #1 square tip finish screws with the small head, yet do shift toward T25 for exterior rough carpentry, when nature calls for this application.

For slotted drives, get a set of decent hollow ground bits or screw drivers. They will not cam out nearly as easily. Always good to have when working on old cabinetry, old stuff in general.

I just started on the torx journey last month after being frustrated with cam outs.. very helpful video as I thought I was being crazy discarding all the stuff to normalize on one system 😂 I have a question - do you see using the torx screws for drawer pulls, hinges etc as well?

I will probably stick with the hinge screws that come with the hardware.....I think the hardware manufacturers should switch to Torx...

In EU pozidriv is ubiquitous. The good thing is PZ2 fits 3.5 to 5mm screws so you rarely need to swap bits, unlike torx.

Philipp has build in torque limiting by the cam out, for pozidrive and tox you need to set the clutch on the drill to not break the driver bits.

Square drive cams out pretty easily, not as bad as phillips though. The Kreg screws are absolute garbage in that respect. Also the square drive tips get stuck in the screw a lot, because the screw head deforms, even before it cams out fully.

Spax user here. Square/Robertson head on woodworking screws. Torx on larger construction screws. Spax woodworking screws are also self counter-sinking. Good tip (pun intended ;-) )

I love Torx. I just wish they would eliminate 25. Go from 10 to 15 to 20 and then 30. There comes a point when it just isn’t necessary to add all these sub increments. It gets frustrating

Some other remakes I mentioned before aswell. Your shutter speed or frame rate, there is some mismatch, your videos are always stutters. Just a moniror remark, your mics might be placed to high, you might talk over your mic and you might want to place them a bit lower so your voice isn’t going over the mic

I bought a bunch of GRK screws because of all the KZbin hype. The McFeeleys square drive screws I was already using are way better and less frustrating to use. Stop using 1" (25mm) bits with magnetic holders. You know, the ones that Festool likes to give in their drills and bit sets. Magnetic bit holders suck!

Point of fact. Torx do not remove if they rust at all. Secondly different manufactures have different torx sizes for the same t2 screw. This is enormously frustrating. I have three different t2 bits. I have to check each time to make sure I use the one that fits the screw best. Once the screw strips your screwed and have to drill the head off. Best tool tip for removing screws. Do not use a power tool to break it loose. More often than not you will “cam” it if you do. Short stubby screwdrivers work great.

When buying torx screws, do check which size torx is needed. Having to change torx-size is just as annoying as having to change bit-type. t20 for normal (furniture) screws (ø 3,5 / 4.0 / 4,5mm) is my first pick (though I started with one brand using t15, which was annoying since the majority appeared to be using t20. t25 (or t30) for construction (ø 5,0 / 6,0mm). I'm buying different brands screws, since I prefer to use t20 the most (when brands use t15 for 3,5mm or t25 for 4,5mm, I skip those)
