Giving my two cents here as a native hawaiian and native arawaken, what you're seeing here is a tribal culture blend. He performs the moali haka here and there, but the way that hes chanting is actually called flyting and that comes from Scandinavian tribes what we now call the Vikings, whereas we all know the whistles come from the Aztec culture.

Fun Fact: The reason Jason does the kind of triplet rap towards the end is actually inspired by his favorite band Archspire. They're this relatively big tech death band in the metal scene and the lead singer uses the harsh metal vocals but says them very quickly. Jason actually invited the lead singer to his suite in Canada to hash out the actual script from this show to (sort of) match the intro of one of their songs called 'Calamus Will Animate'. SUPER cool shit.

The only people I imagine that would gravitate towards a show like this are people who are uncultured and don’t know cultural history of the ancient peoples of the world and hipsters, oh wait they’re one in the same LOL. It is absolutely evident from scenes like these that Momoa not only believes in and cherishes the mana, he HAS it. If you think about it, of all the "manly" actors (Hemsworth, Bruce Willis ETC, all the "manly" archetypes I mean here) Jason Momoa is the only one who can display an equally wise and feral chieftain. I could imagine Dwayne Johnson as the strongest warrior of a tribe in a similar storyline, but never a chieftain like this.

Don't mind me, just sitting here watching Jason, trying not to jump behind the couch and call my Mom.

This guy needs to return as Conan the Barbarian. Since he's 42 y/o, they would have to start with the part where he becomes king, or go straight to Phoenix on the Sword, then to Scarlet Citadel, then a 2-part movie for Hour of the Dragon.
