I actually think the first one was way better : while pretty average overall, it had a distinct atmosphere and the unsettling religious story gave Jacob Goodnight an actual identity. The sequel on the other hand deletes what made the first one special : the environnements are clean as japanese trains (which could work with another killer but really don't fit Jacob), Jacob loses all his lore which turns him in just another Freddy clone without any way of differentiating him, the kills lack any kind of originality and the characters are just as insipid as those of the first movie. In fact, "insipid" would be the word that i would use to describe that movie overall and for a movie made by people apparently that well known in the horror genre, it feels like a movie made by "yes women" who didn't put any efforts in it (although maybe they aren't and it's just like with James Wong directing "Dragon Ball : Evolution" where we have competent directors too bored by the project to put any effort in it). I won't judge them just on that movie but man, what a tasteless movie. Also, i wonder about that quote at 2:53 : does she really mean Jacob Goodnight or just any killer PLAYED by Glen Jacobs? Because considering what they did in the movie, i really doubt that it's the former.
