Thanks. Yes. It is a bit tricky. But I am a Part 107 licensed Drone Pilot and verified the airspace - you can’t fly directly over the island or up to 400ft. The airspace is clear, but it is a bit harder to find a place to take off.

Hi there, DJI has marked the area in front of the statue of liberty as "Altitude zone". Do you need approval ahead of time to fly below 60m in that area?

I wanna do this so bad. What's the chance to get in trouble for doing this? I do have my recreational permit and my part 107 . I live in Indiana but I used to live in NJ.

I wrote a blog post about the experience here. Just follow the rules and you will be good. There is a lot of air traffic in the area, so it is suggested to do it early in the morning before helicopters start flying. droner.tv/how-to-fly-the-statue-of-liberty-with-a-drone/

@@GreaterThingsMedia thank you for the info. How close can I get to the statue of liberty? I know that there's a geofance around the statue. Can I lose my drone if I touch the geofance?

@@idronecare4746 Your drone is just going to stop if it comes up to the geofence and you will not be able to go any further. The issue you could get into is if the geofence is between you and your drone and you lose connection. It will not be able to return to home if the geofence is blocking your way.
