Seed Renovation Update // Seeded Zenith Zoysia // 102 Day Update

Zenith Zoysia from SEED - 35,000 square feet
This is the day 102 seed renovation update on the seeded Zenith Zoysia grass backyard renovation.
This area was seeded in Zenith Zoysia grass seed on June 21, 2022. I have been attempting to mow it as frequently as possible and fertilize it with a liquid fertilizer on a weekly basis. I also attempt to hand pull weeds each time I mow. So far the results are on par with the past two renovations I've done around the house.
I will continue to do a seed renovation update as the season progresses, so stay tuned for updates on what you should expect with seeded Zenith Zoysia grass.

Did you put down Patten Seed Company Zenith Zoysia seed or Pennington Zenith Zoysia seed? Seems to be a large difference in price between the two. I wonder how they differ.

Looking at them more - most of the price difference may come down to the Pennington coming with mulch to lower the cost per lb. however, it is still cheaper per 5,000 sq ft based on their advertised coverages.

I used the seed without mulch. Either is fine and should be the same. The seed with mulch may help hold water some if you don’t have irrigation.

You definitely can. Just more expensive but you’ll likely get a thicker yard the first year.

How did the zenith do in that area with shade? It looks like you decided to do seed. Any guess on how many hours of direct sun it actually gets? I just seeded a similar area yesterday and wondering how it will turn out.

My backyard gets a descent amount. Not sure exactly bc the sun going in and out behind trees. The thin area at the beginning of the video gets the least. I’ll have to pay closer attention one day. I have a new area I plugged that gets 2-3hrs max so we’ll see how that goes haha

Did your ever deal with washout? I’m on a slight slope and caught heavy rain that caused some erosion day 6 and now day 10. But down 15 lbs for 5k sq feet.

@@seanhsarraf I did on the corner furthest from my house. I mention it a few times. I could have prevented it with a few pieces of wood. It’s completely filled in now less than a year later. I did not have any on the steep slope next to my house. I think the aeravator is the key to preventing washouts on hills

Painting? No plans to paint the backyard currently but may try a section at the road to see how authentic it looks.
