Spring field work is here! We are seeding oats, alfalfa, and grasses. The oats act as a nurse crop so that the alfalfa and grasses have time to establish themselves. Plus you are getting a crop off that field in the meantime while the hay is growing! We are using the John Deere 7405 and the Great Plains 10 foot drill. Also the 7810 is smoothing up the fields with the drag. Thank you all for watching. We hope you enjoy the video!

The terrain there at your farm is amazing I love how the fields roll and the driveway leading to the fields and pasture just disappear into the distance. Here in Central Ohio it's all the same and flat were I grain farm and have my flock of sheep. I really enjoy your videos from milking to chores to following along in the field thank you and looking forward to the next

Around where I am we do not use a drag at all. We chisel plow in the fall and then reel disk which is minimum tillage. Then drill and then we use a cultipacker to pack the seedbed down. We to plant oats and alfalfa. We also use a 10 foot drill but ours is a bd1110. That also plants our beans and then a 4 row planter for corn. All our cops are in and looking good so far

Your ground conditions looked great. And with a little rain after seeding you should get a beautiful stand. The only question I have. I why are you using such a large tractor on your drag? With all the nice small light tractors you have. Wouldn't you want to trade lightly ony your newly seeded alphalfa? We always drag with one of our smallest, lightest tractors. I realize you had duals on but I would still use lighter tractor. Most every thing is planted here I'm west central Minnesota. We farm in Southern Meeker and Kandiyohi Counties. We had a very late start this year also. Most everything didn't get planted til the 15th to the 26th of May. Which for this area is about a month later than normal. I really enjoy your show. Keep up the great work on both the farm and the videos.
@GierokFarms
@GierokFarms 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you Mark! Yeah we could have used a small tractor but the 7810 floats so well and is less likely to spin out climbing the hills. But yeah it's been a late year up here

I had a 20ft. Standard grain drill 40 years ago 7.5 inch spacing I planted winter wheat, rice, and solid stand soybeans. My only regret is that I wish it had a fertilizer box on it, would have loved to have been able to put phosphorous down with my wheat planting and potash with my soybeans. I usually planted behind a doall finishing harrow or sometimes in rice directly behind my landplane....

Why do you drag harrow first and then drill behind it? I used to drill and pull the harrow at the same time to smooth out the field so when it comes time to run equipment over it to process the crop it’s smoother to drive on.

I'm curious that you don't use a cultipacker for your final pass. Is it because your fields are too rolling for the packer to made contact everywhere or does the drag just work better for you guys? Your fields look great regardless!!!
