Everyone: I've read your comments and you are right. This is not pure rainwater, but 'polluted' rainwater. I still think it's very interesting and exciting. I'm also planning to make an ecosphere with pure rainwater, however I thought it would be more fun to be able to use a microscope for that. I'm working on it. (Here it is: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mGe6qZxsi7mYnpI) As some of you have pointed out the 'more distinct' larvae are actually pupae. Those small organisms you were seeing were probably rotifers. Thanks for all your comments!

I've been through this before where people will give you a weird look because you're collecting samples . I like to get plants like vallisnaria from a local lake ,plus the sand is really nice . I'll occasionally catch minnows for my pond or catch some sunfish aka Pumpkinseed fish . The adults will keep their distance but it's always the kids who are curious about what I'm doing and will ask me tons of questions about what,why etc . That's the fun part when I get a chance to educate them about nature and spark their curiosity . I always enjoy answering their questions and seeing how much fun it is for them . I was one of those kids and remember having a mentor who got me interested in the hobby when I was 7 . One year I made a native vivarium display for my son's class that had tree frogs, Oregon newts and some salamanders and stickleback minnows . The kids loved it so much that the teacher had to cover it up during class till it was time to view it . It became a hit with the kids and even the visitors to his classroom . If people want to act like I'm doing something odd I don't care . It's not any different than what a biologist does .

Some roofs are designed to retain the water for insulation.
@evanfurn9205 жыл бұрын
@readme info it's common here in AZ and other desert areas. It works here because the water evaporates fairly quick so I isn't sitting there getting stagnant or making its way through the roof to cause a leak.
@evanfurn9205 жыл бұрын
@readme info it works by shielding the roof from the sun so instead of insulation keeping in the cool it's more keeping out the heat. It's mainly used for businesses. Sometimes they also flood the roof for this. I love the idea of green roofs but because o the heat here it isn't used to much. You do send a lot of solar panels and solar water heaters though.

Since the question at hand is "does anything live in rain water?" the experiment would have been far better if you got the rain water from non-contaminated sources. Personally, if I were to have done this I would have created and sterilized a rain collector and just left it at that to see if anything lives in the rain water alone and not in the dirt, rocks, or anything else that the water would have collected while sitting on the ground, roof, and pots outside.

@evilcanofdrpepper5 жыл бұрын
But where did the water from the street come from... Obviously it was originally rain water. And unless it was just chemically created isn't all water technically rain water at some point in time?
@malkeus64875 жыл бұрын
@@evilcanofdrpepper Well sure, that's technically accurate. But the rain water that falls out of the sky was previously water vapor which condensed around a particulate in the sky until it got heavy enough to fall. It's not quite the pure water you'd get condensed on the inside of a pot lid while you're cooking, but it's fairly close to that. It's almost pure. If THAT water, caught in a jar as it falls, before it hits the ground again, if THAT water contains the larva of whatever fucking worm was crawling around the jar in the intro...I'd have no choice but to never get it on my skin again. The water he's gathering from the street is nothing like the water caught directly from the sky. It's just like he was saying, it's got dust and dirt and whatever is on the ground mixed into it again. Do you understand the difference? Or are you just trolling me?

IFunny Watermark Where do you think rain comes from
@sephikong83234 жыл бұрын
@IFunny Watermark Except that between the moment the rain fell and the moment it is collected there was a time gap. This led to mosquitoes laying their eggs in the stagnant water for example, thing that doesn't happen with rain droplets because .......... do I even have to explain why there can't be a mosquito larva in a rain droplet that still hasn't touched the ground ? The best way to test the ecosystem of rain water would have been to leave the container in the open during a rain with a funnel to maximise the rain water collected then seal it. This experiment is extremely flawed because of the methodology because again, as pointed in the video, it was rain from last night that he collected from puddles, meaning that it had several hours to be contaminated by exterior variable rendering the experiment mood and pointless, he no longer is seeing what lives in rain water but what can crawl it's way into a puddle of water in a few hours
