Seeing What Lives Around Me By Making A Paludarium Ecosphere / Closed Ecosystem

  Рет қаралды 504,325

Life in Jars?

Life in Jars?

4 жыл бұрын

I made a paludarium ecosphere out of an old aquarium. A paludarium is part land based and part water based, so part terrarium and part aquarium. This paludarium is closed and therefore a closed ecosystem. By watching what lives in the paludarium I can see what lives around me. All sorts of interesting stuff, including tubifex worms, hydra and even water boatmen.
Enjoy!

Incredible work mate, this is just what I spent hours doing when I was young, you have re-kindled my love of pond life and I'll be building my own Paludarium very soon. Just a suggestion bro: See if you can rig up a microscope to show just how much life there is in a single drop of that water. I used to spend hours with my microscope watching Paramecium and Amoeba. Also looking at Cyclops, Hydra and Daphnia under magnification is so cool because you can see their insides and their means of locomotion. All the best mate. Respect. Louie

The visual quality is much better with the proper aquarium, but I can suggest gluing a microscope slide to a jar lid if you want a better window for classic jars. I did that for my pond jar and laid it on its side, works pretty good for macro, but not good enough for microscopy sadly (glass is too thick).
