This is nuts! Just for reference, asbestos-cement sheet contains at most 15% chrysotile (white) asbestos, and in this area, there's pure crocidolite everywhere. Even cutting AC sheet with a circular saw would be safer than setting foot in Wittenoom. You wouldn't catch me going within 100 miles of the place.

Great video, shows the expanse and uniqueness of Oz But as mentioned earlier, the Blue Asbestos mine scenes are beyond belief, unless you don't mind dying a very unpleasant death. Blue Asbestos is the most dangerous/carcinogenic and Mesothelioma is not a good way to go. Agree with earlier comment, guy picking up Asbestos sheet, saying be careful - despite breathing in Blue Asbestos fibres, still in the unventolated mine - CRAZY!!!

This was done 5 years ago. They actually went into the mine without protective equipment in an environment that has blue asbestos trailings everywhere. I know the government can try to protect you but they can’t protect you from yourself. Still fascinating!

The best video I have seen on the post Wittenoom walk inside the mine past the conveyor I used to work on with fitters to repair in 1961 and above on the grizzlies bars through which one life was lost, Frenchy went trough was found the next shift in bits smashed by the tones of rocks. Yes the video brings memories. Great job boys. The video was done well after government of WA have butchered the lot by removing the steel structures of the Mill but left behind mountains of tailings-the worst they could have done for the state of WA.

Nothing beats driving through tailings filled with asbestos and kicking up dust filled with asbestos. Say bye bye to breathing in about 30 years.

I like your videos but far out!! Going inside a crocidolite asbestos mine which has been attributed to heaps of deaths with no protection. Great footage but you wouldn't catch me anywhere near there! Also "watch out guys there's asbestos in here" when you find a piece of AC bonded sheeting, is he serious? Haha

I've been to Wittenoom three times now, once in 97 when the mine buildings were still there and twice last year..stayed in town at one of Lorraine Thomas's homes for a night, that was a great experience, and then went back and swagged it next to Doc Bolitho's waterhole, (the one with the rope swing). No one else there, very peaceful, the natural beauty of the gorge is overwhelming..yes there is a sad history and I'm well aware of the dangers, but I still want to go back for another stay..

Wittenoom is listed as one of the most contaminated sites in the world (blue asbestos...the worst kind) and you went there with no protective gear not even masks not a good idea I live in Australia and its the last place I would go.The government wrote that town off for a reason.I explore old mines but wouldn't go within 100k of that place ever

Great video mate! such a unique look into the past, that mine was a real time capsule everything just left exactly the way it was the day the mine closed permanently in 66 & never touched since. I find it quite ironic the WA government of today & yesteryear where so eager to knock down the town & mine wipe it off the map almost like trying to pretend Australia's worst industrial tragedy never happened rewriting history.Yet they leave the filthy shit that may potentially do the most harm to anyone around the general area those disgusting mountains of Asbestos Tailings go figure lol. Not a trip I reckon I'd make you & your mates have extremely large Testicles my friend! Cheers.

Hey Mate i have watched your Pilbara Trip a few times, all of them; good job BTW. In august of 2018, my best mates and i did the exact same trip (in a bt50, hilux, disco, patrol.).. didnt go so well. Bfs head on his hilux blew at Karijini. and we tried doing exactly what u did in 2 weeks... didnt go so well. So we're doing round 2 in 2019.those gorges that you stayed at, at Wittenoom Gorge, i would really love if you could tell me how to get there. Google maps does not recognise those roads. It is a magical place the Pilbara.

@@SeekAdventure Thank you for sharing those co-ordinates!! if you do it again, you need to head to Weeli Wolli Springs, Stuarts Pool, just outside Newman about 160 kms out towards Karijini. I watched your Kalgans Pool Ep too and from Kalgans pool is there only one way to Three Pools. The next trip is going to be only the Pilbara, we found the coast boring and annoying driving because of all the tourists. How much asbestos is around those camp sites. I can see the blue dumps in the valley, I love exploring but i dont want to write my death wish you know. I have travelled a lot parents took us around AUS, and ive done most of WA. only bit left on my list is the Kimberely.

No unfortunately, well not in late August-September 2009. They may have pulled them down earlier in the year or so. I have photos of the gully and blue tailings that matches the spot where you went up to the shaft, so I know I was in the right spot. Although just now I checked the WA Gov't website and they have what I think are old photos but say "Copyright 2012", I guess when they published it rather than took the photos.

To go there is risky, but to go into the mine without at least a mask is beyond risky. One microscopic particle in your lung can mean cancer diagnosis in 10-30 years time, then death in under 9 months. There is no wind in the mine to blow the fine dust away. I wouldn’t want to be in the second vehicle either. Good luck with that. By 2019 there was one resident left, a big difference to when there were thousands, the biggest town in the Pilbara.
