So the more you work to be understood, the more people there are to misunderstand you- What a profound idea!

3:37 → Dude, I felt you on this. Recording is a way of "thinking" and noticing the clock ticking is like a gentle indicator to myself. It's a decent gauge for how much I still have to articulate and how much is still amorphous to me so I can either divert my resources away or narrow down into an MVP next step that's more concrete. It helps. I appreciate that you post these btw. My recordings of this kind exist mostly for myself and I don't plan on revisiting them. Sharing my rough processes to my channel feels vulnerable in a way that I don't feel I need to share. That may change though. I feel similarly about being misunderstood. I want others to have a better fidelity of who *I* am but as you said, I'm also aware that the visibility has consequences. So I think that's a little bit of "resistance" I feel in my creative work. I think my project writing haiku has helped me in an orthogonal way in terms of being more observational. I notice more things and in trying to write, I'm getting better at putting those feelings or micro moments into words. I still feel like I'm nowhere near completing it but I'm actually really happy with the couple hundred I've written so far. I found that the constraint of the haiku helped me get ideas for poems because the concept would just lend itself to that. Perhaps the 5 para structure / videos talking about drafts will unlock something similar for you.

Man, these videos are always inspiring in some sense, even if they are just off the cuff doing some update and sharing a couple short thoughts, i always see some parallels with my own life. Probably partly cause it is following sth you said lmaoo. Glad to hear that "Things seem to go well for me" bit LOL maybe you're right that on twitter it may come across as braggy, it's a tame looking flex on the surface, but maybe the most powerful one of all lmaoooo, zen type shit Hadn't seen your tiktoks, i'll have to check them out, i'm curious ab what you have to say about your drafts. Tiktok has the option for longer form now btw in case the minute is too constraining, i think it's up to 10 (15sec, 1min, 3min, 10min are the default settings but you can just record for less time for inbetween lengths, iirc). IMO at that point for revising longer form drafts i would just use youtube but bc my setup is quite optimized for that, it would be more difficult for me to greenscreen myself on tiktok than on youtube, but maybe the casualness of tiktok + it being easier to use depending on your personal setup feels easier than on yt I'm feeling the same way ab my 100 videos as you do with your million words lol. I started to wish that i had done some kinda review of the previous vid every time i released a new one, to avoid "having to do" (interesting that i feel some kinda sense of "duty" towards it) anything when i reach the 100 videos, but tbh that would be against the point since it probably would've just added too much friction for me to release the videos in the first place. The "understood" part was also interesting. It's good to hear that because i myself forget about it lol. I think at my level of reach there's less amount of what i consider "quality feedback" it's harder to know whether certain actions are optimizing for "quality feedback"/thoughful comment section, but it's also probably the case that i do a bad job of noticing when it happens and trying to boost that and prioritizing that kinda stuff, out of maybe stubbornness/inertia/lack of planning and just releasing stuff based on vibe instead of doing a little bit of project management or some light strategizing.

i stick to 60 secs on tiktok because i'm sure nobody's sticking around for 10 minute tiktoks lol, like how nobody is reading essay-length tweets even though you can post essay-length tweets

@@visakanv lmao true. i gotta say that i have watched 10 minute tiktoks, then went into the comments there too and people claimed they did as well (altho tiktok comments usually just go as far as stating that fact)

Hey visa, have you heard of rick rubin's 4 step method from his book?: the creative act = Seed phase, experiment phase, craft phase, sharing phase. He has a "ruthless edit" tip at the end. Produced songs like under the bridge by red hot chili peppers. I think his book applies to this video's theme. Also, how is your rising popularity on Twitter with tons of DMs? Haha

I haven't read Rubin's book yet but I'm familiar with him generally! and yea too many DMs to keep up with lol i'm always feeling guilty about it

@visakanv Yeah, with your whole friendly ambitious nerd project, it seems unsustainable to be one of the only "connector" nodes in the network (hence your DM guilt). I guess teaching other people to do as you've done will help the mission scale, as is the message of the book; if everyone upped their online presence and reply game, as you say.
