This resonates with me. I've been feeling artistically angsty and not in a fruitful way. Helpful message.

I struggle with this on a daily basis. And I have found the same solution, that is, thinking really long term. Though watching this video made me realise how much I needed to talk about it lol.

Seems like the timescale could be an important factor here - e.g. might be worth being invested in the results in the short-term to trigger change (e.g. noob gains, Hades first win instead of giving up), but developing detachment over time. Especially because thinking long-term is often a bit lossy, so it's easy to delulu ourself into believing change is going to happen without the daily work needed for it.

I relate to so much of what you've said here and been thinking about it in the context of climbing. One thing I find interesting is how often I can send something I've been struggling with when right before doing it I've resolved to not give a shit about how it goes. It seems to me that's the moment where detachment matters most. After the event it's fine if you're happy or suffering or whatever (from a maximalist pov I even think just feel whatever you feel!) so long as before the next attempt you know you're going to try really hard regardless of whether it pays off or not.
