Finding the Best Class in Diablo 2: The Paladin

The Paladin might be the best class in Diablo 2, primarily because he has the ability to vanquish foes with his staggering aura. As well as having the best damage, survivability, speed, and all around better than the rest of the classes persona. Still it's a competition, let's not count everyone else out yet. Barbarian still has a hat in this race, even if it's a tiny, novelty joke hat.

@@ApathyBM Double. Swing. Also, skills like taunt,battle cry, find item and find potion give you great options against enemy AI. Taunt stops monsters from raising fallen, find item/potion keeps the corpses on the ground by using them up, battle cry weakens bosses... Oh yeah, and leap. The knock back from jumping can groups of enemies allowing you to survive some tough mobs.

Many moons ago my first character was a zealot paladin. Someone traded me a Zod rune for a charm one day, and in hindsight whatever I gave him was probably more valuable than a Zod, but the idea of being paid with the rarest rune ever excited me. I built and Ebotd Berserker Axe with it. My lord, that Character was powerful. Blocked Everything, Would lifesteal a hilarious amount with each slap, and would slice anything in half with NO effort.

Ofc barb is the best class. Have you ever seen the barb masteries on a runeword? You can get Passion and Beast on barb, with Enigma and play him with frenzy-bear-wolf. Paladin can only dream of muscles so dense.

Amazing epilogue, loved the series. In a game, whenever there is a paladin available i pick it and so it happened back in the naughties my brother picked a sorceress, we cruised through easily. I remember about a year ago, i tried a fresh pally run and was shocked at how any life steal and mana leech together basically allowed me to rapid slap anything to death endlessly as an immortal psychopath with a an absurdly jacked right arm. Had absolute trash gear and a low-mid lvl runeword sword yet still slapped through Normal and Nightmare with shocking ease.

As someone who played a lot of hardcore characters, one thing that brings hammer paladins to their knees is the exploding Stygian dolls in act 3 due to their unique mechanic of exploding for as much damage as they had in HP when they died. Which is usually all of it when you are flying some hammers around.

With a couple hard points and with the +x to skills from gear, one can basically wander into Chaos or wherever, gather everyone in a giant group and cast Confuse. TF2 is my most played game ever, so I could easily make dumb topics about that. WoW has taken so much of my life and I'm currently messing around in tbc classic and hating Blizzard for various other reasons. Retro stuff, maybe challenge runs in games would be fun. D2 of course will stick around, I'll do something else in that space, maybe less edited and more improv. At the least, I want to maintain my humor approach and will not resort to just reading stuff off a monitor at any point, lol.

Very much enjoyed. I am surprised that you rate necro above sorc, though, I understand that Hardcore preference might boost necro a bit. The thing about sorc is that she's literally the only class in the game that doesn't have a "enigma tax" in order to play at high end. And since she doesn't need enigma to teleport, she usually ends up being the best character to farm an enigma with. (as well as most other pieces of high end gear) Necro is amazing, to be sure, but he's so much slower than the sorc. Sure, poison nova is great late game, but it doesn't really shine until after you've already gotten yourself a certain pair of gloves and an enigma. And again, who's the best character to get those things from scratch? Sorc.

Sorc is so close to runner up, and honestly you could argue that sorc, necro or pally are the best class in the game. Like if you just want to magic find, Sorc wins all day. Variety of content completion, it's got to be paladin. Necromancer is like the hipster choice lol. Really good at everything, but just a little on the weird side. At the end of the day, I feel like the curses are so insane, especially in group play, that it puts it over sorc just a little.

Two words for ya: Dim Vision. Necro isn't afraid of Souls. That alone makes him best class. ;) (It also helps a lot that you only need 1 build to clear maps *and* kill Ubers. Pallies and Sorcs gotta respec a lot.)

I played a Hydra Sorc back when I was a kid because I just thought they were neat. I beat Baal by summoning them and hiding behind a pillar lol. But revisiting the game made me realize just how weak the skill actually was. At least D3 gave us a hydra set so it could be a viable skill.

Thank you, truly awesome sEEries. It's funny as the paladin is the only character I found boring. I dislike having an aura blocking skill slot and I never liked Hammerdin (say I guy who likes Armageddon). The only truly funny thing about paladin that I liked is his Gotta Go Fast skill. That I enjoyed but in the end teleports win :) So the best class? Definitely as you said... The one player enjoy the most.
