They need to release a "Sega Arcade Collection", they've re-released the same set of Genesis games ad-infinitum. Not that they're not good games mind you, but they have such a breadth of titles across the arcade and other home consoles that they aren't tapping into.
@ShapeyFiend6 жыл бұрын
I think arcade games really lend themselves to Collections because they're meant to be consumed in short bursts. I think Sega are somewhat lazy when it comes to these projects so they just go with the Mega Drive because the emulation and control scheme is going to be simple and it'd probably outsell any arcade collection that's more effort. The 3DS 3D Classics Collection had a couple of excellent arcade ports of course and they certainly didn't cheap out getting M2 to port them rather than simply emulating.
@PicksterTG6 жыл бұрын
I think part of the problem is source code and emulation. Then on top of that, arcade games were more prone to include licenes. Just look at the Car used in Shenmue 2 Outrun. They had to change it from the original. Now in that case the original game didn't actually have a Ferrari License. Yet some legal person said it looked too close and they had to change it for the Shenmue 2 version. Funny thing being, the Saturn Sega Ages version used the original car only a few years earlier. I'm no sure about Turbo Outrun. That is clearly meant to look like a F40 but I don't know if Ferrari gave the go ahead for it, let alone the other cars on screen, one is clearly meant to be a 911.
@yellowblanka60586 жыл бұрын
VaughnJogVlog - at the very least they could release some NEW genesis games in those collections, perhaps get the go-ahead from Konami to re-release "Castlevania: Bloodlines" and "Contra: Hard Corps" etc.? Every collection is the same relatively small sampling of the Genesis' library with glaring omissions like the Thunder Force games. I know licensing can be a bitch, but eventually people are going to stop buying the same games over and over.

Great video! I was a huge Sega fan when I was a kid. I had an NES, but Genesis was my jam. I loved Sega because of the colors and it always seemed like the games they licensed had a bit more of an edge to them. Nintendo was great no doubt, but Genesis games pound for pound just seemed "cooler" to me. I also miss the days of going into an arcade and hearing the chaos of all the cabinets and pinball machines. Being just a little kid and pulling up a stool (!) to reach the controls and display of an Altered Beast or Crime Fighters cabinet was such a thrill. Then being witness to the release of Street Fighter II (six buttons! what?!?!?!) and Mortal Kombat, man the 80s and early 90s were a fantastic time to be a kid.

I was always a Nintendo kid growing up, but when you add up all of their home consoles, arcade games throughout the decades and even the software they developed for their prior competitors like Bayonetta, Madworld & Vanquish just to name a few...Sega really was king. In a way, they were kinda like the original SNK , being how they relied so heavily on their own IP as their best arcade and home titles, putting third party material to shame as far as legacy. It truly is sad to see them out of the console race. Growing up in the 80s and 90s and witnessing the height of the arcade experience is sincerely missed. Thanks for this nostalgic and epic video!

Being a little older than you, 12 year old me was there for the early days, when games like MIssile Command, Defender, and Asteroids swallowed quarters like they were going out of style - but even then, Sega had a few gems early on that I really liked. Aside from a couple of those early 80's classics you mentioned, There was also Space Fury, which, despite being a bit of an Asteroids clone, was one of the early color vector graphics games of the time. There was also Astro Blaster, which I spent almost an entire weeklong stay in a Miami Beach hotel Game Room playing, along with Monaco GP (and GORF, butr that's out of context for the subject matter). In the mid 80's one of my favorite games (because the arcade that I worked at while I was in High School had a sit-down version of the cabinet) was Star Trek, loosely based on "The Motion Picture" - really cool for its time if you've never tried it.

You are so right about Sega...back then it was if they could see no limits and they went absolutely off the hook in the arcades. What always bothered me about Sega was they didn't include any hardware scaling on the Genesis. I know it would have driven the cost up but had they went with a minor upscaler they may have put themselves out of Nintendo's reach. At that time Nintendo was more about gaming in the home and I honestly don't think they had access to the same resources as Sega (programmers, artists, and the like). Sadly I pretty much missed all of this and arcades in general being too young. Early 90s I did get around a few arcades but there weren't many around. Aladdin's Castle is the only one I remember. That did have After Burner.

We had an Aladdin's Castle near us as well back in the day. They had a healthy supply of the Namco and Sega polygon games at least.

Ah, the Space Harrier music. I can help in my mind as soon as I hear it I also hear "Welcome to the Fantasy Zone." Or is that just me?
