Technical note for all youtubers who stumble across this: If you are uploading music and a still image, you can encode an h.264 video stream, a FLAC audio stream and wrap it in an MKV and upload that. KZbin will accept it and that way there is only 1 generation of lossy encoding that way, leading to the best sound quality you can get out of youtube!

Haha, so I played this game first on the GENs emulator back in 2002 and my little sister watched me play the whole thing from start to finish. Fast forward to today and I see this little notification from KZbin that DUSTINODELLOFFICIAL has finally uploaded the PSIV soundtrack, so I jumped on that without a second thought. She's home visiting from college and about 30 seconds into the OST I heard someone running down the hall to my computer room and the next thing I know she's bursting through my door yelling "ARE YOU PLAYING PHANTASY STAR IV?!" with an extremely large smile on her face. This game had a gigantic impact on us as kids, lol.

God I can see every scene associated with each music track. The Phantasy Star series is one I've beaten numerous times: I, II and IV I've only beaten iii few times due to how slow you walk actually it felt grindier than the others. Amazing series in part a reason large RPGs and JRPGs to the west and probably a huge reason I'm primarily an RPG player. Very influential games.
@briannagravely93495 жыл бұрын
The grindiness is prolly why in Adventure Time, the reference game Jake was playing on Beemo was called Age of Grinders. Also, the plot and aesthetic for the second game seemed to influence a little bit of the Islands miniseries of Adventure Time.

PSIV is the best!! I absolutely enjoyed the hell out of this game and I am pretty picky about RPG's. I'd go as far as to say that they aren't particularly my favorite kind of games but this....is yes! I know SNES is pretty much an RPG machine, but Sega pumped out what is quite frankly one of the best of the 16-bit era that's not on a Nintendo console. The soundtrack is amazing and I don't want to give away spoilers because the story is just feels!! Miss Takeuchi did a wonderful job for her contributions :)

This is going to seem odd for someone who uses Alys as his avatar but I really don't like RPGs in general and don't really care for the other Phantasy Stars. PSIV has something to it that works for me though, but I don't know what it is. Just quality stuff all around, I guess.

PS1 also stands up very well, IMO - a titan of its era, and the FM music in the Mark II version is fantastic. Still good fun to play out and manually map, if you like dungeon crawlers. PS2 was a bit half-baked, and feels rushed and rather incomplete - it needed a lot longer in the oven, and a lot of balancing. Sadly not much fun to play these days. Fantastic soundtrack from Bo though, particularly for such an early game. I strongly prefer the non-JP drums. I've never been able to stand PS3. Ugly, noisy, generic. I was amazed when I found out PS3 and PS4 had the same lead composer - such a vast improvement, both in composition and synthesis! As for PS4, it's a bonafide classic in my book, up there with Chrono Trigger and FF6 as one of the finest 16-bit RPGs. Great mechanics, characters, cut-scenes and of course music. It also did a superb job in magpieing the best elements from the curate's eggs that were PS2 & PS3 (or spoofing them in one case - hello, Rappy hunter's guild mission!). First discovered it via emulators in the mid-90s (KGen and Genecyst!) and played it to death, but have never played it through on real hardware, so it's great to hear this.

This is a game that long deserved a proper soundtrack rip. Thanks a lot Dustin. I know that miss Izuho Takeuchi was the game's main music composer, along with Masaki Nakagaki. Bo composed the soundtracks for PS I & II, and since some remixes where made, it's only natural that he's credited. But I'm curious on what was Kawaguchi-san's role in this soundtrack. Also, Laughter is one the best boss theme of any JRPG. I can guarantee that.
