They are Emulating VMUs! When you play on a real Dreamcast, you can see your cards on the screen in your controller. This prevents other players from knowing what cards you have. Arin is using an emulator that gave every controller a VMU virtually, so it's sending the info to non-existent screens. If they didn't have VMUs in you could see the cards on screen. They accidentally made this super hard mode and it's hilarious. New favorite series.

So, since you guys are playing on emulator, you wouldn't know, but when you play with multiple people, the cards are displayed on the VMU on the dreamcast controllers. So without a real Dreamcast you can't really play the game without gimping yourself.

So, for those wondering what the deal is with the cards being face down, the game is meant to be played with the VMU in the controllers, with the cards being displayed face up on the VMU screen. That said, there should be an option to display cards on the screen.

Actually this game was made by Hudson soft, the same people that most of the Mario party games. Also this game makes a bit more sense when you can see your cards which they can’t because they are emulating it. They show up on the VMU on the Dreamcast controller. For those who havent played this, you're able to see your own cards on thecontroller as the dreamcast controllers had a screen. Thus Eggman's number #8 was supposed to hide arin's cards. While I love this game as it does have a lot of strategic depth in a party game, it's awful at conveying what does/doesn't matter. Like sonic's power of randomly going two spaces is explained once and we know arin didnt read.

Arin. The cards are displayed on your VMU screen on the controller! To get the cards to appear on the TV, you have to either have a regular memory card plugged in or none at all.

I love how the game just doesn't work the way they're playing it, because you could only see your cards on the second screen the Dreamcast had, if I remember correctly. So the computers know what their cards are, but Dan and Arin don't. Ultra hard mode.

Merodach Maybe it’s just because I’ve never played this but I have no idea what’s going on at any point in this even if I could see the cards. Half the time they were doing the ice throwing game I thought that they were supposed to be hitting other people instead of just getting rings

​@@-seth Many of the mini-games are about getting rings. They can use those to buy useful stuff with them, try to steal stones from other players, and at the end of it all, they'll be awarded an extra point based on who has the most. And it's not like the star point in MP, that extra one does matter quite a lot. Because you can choose direction and, to a certain degree, where to land, the game lends itself to a much more strategic experience more akin to what you get in a complex board game. Except for some gripes that I used to have with it, it can be really fun.
