Im glad I looked up Sega Hard Girls. I've just finished Superdimension Neptune vs Sega Hard Girls. I thought the girls were something that the people behind the Neptunia franchise came up with but they already existed before that's cool! I didn't get any of the design aspects of Sega Saturn, Mega Drive, or Game Gear (Which from what Im seeing doesn't really appear in the show but she does in the game.). But Dreamcast is very obviously (as you stated in the first one.). I also didn't get much of their personalities and was wondering why they acted like they did. But much like the people behind the Neptunia Franchise, the way they act is relative to the console they represent. I LOVE this way of making characters and I think it's why I love Neptunia so much, I've played everyone! (Well except for Cyberdimension but that just cause the English release isn't out yet LOL)

BRUV. FAM. Sir, this is some detailed character design analysis. I myself already knew 90% of those references, but the Nights neckband & eye colours are some next level shit. It's great that you get all the character personality nods too, I always admired Saturns attempts at doing her best maybe because I like the Consoles games. I guess Saturn receiving the bad treatment is also present in the Neptunia crossover because (SPOILERS) she was influenced by the Time Eater (not the Sonic Generations one mind you) into having to fight Neptune and was possessed when the feud between the two was resolved peacefully. Plus, she was hammered hard by Segami right after she was just unpossessed.

The Sega Saturn was also my personal favorite of Sega's consoles, and I still play my Saturn games to this day! But that's not the only reason Saturn instantly became my favorite character when I watched Sega Hard Girls! I really love her plucky determination to do her best, even when things don't always go so well for her! And yeah, I did wish she wasn't the butt of the joke so often, it made me feel bad for the poor girl! I also like her design the most out of the three! Her outfit and hair are really stylish to me, and I don't mind the resemblances to Miku! I also personally like her hetorochromia, even if I do agree that she would look better with just one eye color from a design standpoint. I just feel like it fits her personality in that her overall design is so sleek and controlled, that having mismatched eyes clashes with that balance in a way she can't control. Just like she can't always stay in control of every situation. That's probably me reading too much into things! XD

I'm drawing more similarities between Saturn and Noire from Hyperdimension Neptunia than Hatsune Miku (though I can see the similarities in design there as well). Both have black twin tails, black as their primary outfit colour (although Saturn has some white while Noire has some blue to represent playstation), both of them are confident and both of them usually receives the short end of the stick.

You're right for Miku and I've never thought of it (but you prove my thougts about NiGHTS were probably right)... But are you sure the eyecolor of Saturn is not coming from a reference to the two processors of the machine, simply? Also, something I found really funny there too is that Kio is the one who modeled the girls, and he made one of the first Miku models way back when she was first released. Interesting comparing her personality to what is mainly how the Saturn was seen and treated in the west, as in Japan it was actually pretty popular in comparison and if anything the Mega Drive was the underdog system there as even the PC Engine was outselling it by miles. Still, it works as the console was definitely less powerful than its rivals but when it could show off (Virtua Fighter 2) it could really show off. I agree on the character design too, it's maybe a little too busy with the colour scheming and the Miku comparison is very apt.

+Lucky Hit - Technically very true, the Mega Drive was the underdog system in Japan and i feel they did inject a lot of that attention in to Mega Drives own mishaps within the show. That said, Mega Drive always seemed to have more wins than losses in the series. Like, she would be given some hopeless situations to deal with and yet somehow by the end of it she'd still turn out ok. I just chalked that up to the fact that the Mega Drive was incredibly successful everywhere else and they used that success as a means to represent MD's ability to get out of those sticky situations within the show.... . . i should probably do that Mega Drive episode sometime soon >_>;;

Man, no kidding about some of the arcade ports to the Saturn being flawed; its been nearly 20 years and I am STILL burned by how shithouse the port of The House Of The Dead turned out. Group therapy did nothing to ease that particular pain. Still, though. The Saturn was never my console (I'm a Mega Drive boy through and through), but I always thought the library was mighty impressive, with at least some of the games really taking advantage of what a power house it could be. Who knows, if it weren't for the internal conflicts between the east and west branches of the company, the rush to market + the hefty price tag, and all the other well-documented things the Saturn had to fight tooth and nail against, it might well have had gained a better foothold in the market then it did. It does seem that more and more people are coming around to the Saturn these days, though, so the console got it's happy ending after all (albeit well after the fact).

The Saturn as a system wasn't bad, the gameplay for the most part was quite smooth and the arcade ports were awesome. If they had released this before the Sega-CD(if they actually had the tech), it would have been a huge success. The problem with Sega was that they tried to prolong the MegaDrive/Genesis console's life for too long, with all those huge add-ons.. (brought up and made fun of in the Neptunia series)

As a fellow Sega Saturn fanboy I agree wholeheartedly. The Saturn to this dau is still one of the best 2d fighting game consoles of all time. Every one a near arcade perfect translation, especially all the Capcom fighters. To this day my most beloved games are my 5 Saturn "classics" (my little pet name for these 5 games) X-men vs Street Fighter, Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter, Darkstalkers 3, Street Fighter Alpha 2 GOLD (the BEST version of that game hands fucking down!) and my holy grail PANZER DRAGOON SAGA, SON! Honorable mentions go to the King of Fighters collection, Guardian Heroes, and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night as this is one of the few times the Saturn port of a game was superior.
