Back in the days when Zsnes was used sd3 was one of the very first games I played that had an English translation done already. Such great memories.

Well now we have the remake and it made this song sound great.

I think the problem is that the Japanese names for the first 3 games are consistent, but when they were translated to English they are complete different. Seiken Densetsu 1, 2, and 3 ended up being Final Fantasy Adventure/Sword of Mana, Secret of Mana, and (unofficially) Secret of Mana 2.They would have to change the English names to Holy Sword Legend, or something, for the numbering to work.

Third game know has a new official name, and a remake coming soon( or already out). It’s now called Trial of Mana.

Oh, we got the first one alright. Twice. On the GameBoy, it was origionally called Final Fantasy Adventure, not to be confused by the SAGA 1 and 2 games, Final Fantasy Legend 1 and 2. It was re-released as a remake on the GBA with the proper Mana franchise title Sword of Mana. Odd that SE didn't revert the Mana titles to their proper numbers as they did the FF titles.

How come a RANDOM SONG from a game I'VE NEVER PLAYED? >:O SD3 is awesome and so is this music! And I love your cover too! =D

Good job with the note precision on the quick riffs; this one is a bit of an orchestration! My recollection is of the original having a bit more bass to it, but it has been a few years, and regardless I know bass can be difficult to pump out of any chip if you need the crisp waveforms for treble.

I think passionate video game music lovers have a pretty good understanding of what franchise Seiken Densetsu is. :P

The original doesn't actually have a bass line, but the samples have more low end to them. I tried using the triangle channel to add in some lower frequencies, but it was too loud, and I needed to cover this track at such a low volume because the DPCM samples became distorted garbage if I tried to amplify them even a little.

I played this game, but everything was japanese and I couldn't understand very much. It also cost me over $100 to import it back in the day. Good job on the sounds.

Omg, seiken densetsu 3 is awesome (as is this tune) I haven't made it far yet because, I want to play with my friend, but still! For who don't know, the game is a "sequal" so secret of mana, but was a japanese only realease. Recomend playing the series with a partner.

This is the sequel to Secret of Mana in Japan, so I don't think it's that unheard of to cover a piece of music from it. If you'd done something from say Mystic Ark for example then you'd propably have people going "guhwha?" or alternatively "do the battle theme!"
@coatlesscarl12 жыл бұрын
The DPCM is just the percussion. The samples in the original are pretty crummy sounding on their own, so preserving some quality through the import process was pretty difficult. Problem is, the louder the sample, the crappier the quality gets. For the tri, I tried to fill in the the lower octave of the part playing in the VRC6 Square 2 and Sawtooth channels (the samples in the original had multiple octaves playing on one channel). This didn't sound very good, and the tri was too loud anyway.

It was Secret of Mana 2 in the US and Europe, but 3 in Japan as we never got the first one!
@LoneKiltedNinja12 жыл бұрын
Hmmmm... yes, that would be a conundrum. What sort of stuff do you have going on the DPCM? And how does famitracker present its interface? Granted it only has so many levels to begin with, but driven at its max sampling frequency (which you can do, since you don't need to worry about storing the sample in ROM), it should be able to get between them fairly cleanly. And what octave did you try the tri at? On hardware, at least, it's low-low range ends up fairly weak in my experience...
@coatlesscarl12 жыл бұрын
I'm guessing you mean the triplets in the DPCM samples. It's actually like that in the original.
