I'd kill for a Mini Samurai. I want the PADI Samurai so badly, but the 48 mm lug to lug is close to pushing it for my wrist size. Would absolutely love a 40 mm diameter PADI Mini Samurai. Would be my dream Seiko diver.

The Samurai Blue Lagoon is certainly a big watch, but it isn't too large for my 6,5 - 6, 75 " wrist. It is large, but not so much.

Funny how people hate on the Cyclops feature: the first *good* diver I ever had was a Hamilton Atlantis II, which, as memory tells me, had a Cyclops magnifier, and I thought it was a terrific feature. Given the watches I've suffered owning with tiny, RECESSED, non-magnified date windows (Citizen, I'm lookin' at you), Cyclops is the proverbial godsend, haters be damned. I'd just as soon live without a day/date complication, but if it's included, let's not make it tortuous to use. And: YES, smaller watches FTW. I thought the trend toward bigger wrist-iron jumped the shark in the late 90s with the IWC Portuguesers, but I was obviously wrong.

Mr. Long Island Watch, why is this referred to as a smaller watch if it has the same case size (43mm) as the SKX007? I've never heard the SKX007 referred to as a small watch for small wrists. Please explain.

They definitely made the mini turtle different from its bigger brother and more its own thing, for better or worse. I wonder if their market analysis detected the recent sub homage trend and that was behind the cyclops and 3:00 crown. Personally I'm not a fan of those changes, nor the small crown with no guards. If it was an actual mini turtle I'd be more interested.

Hi Marc, struggling between the MIni Turtle SBDY085 and the SRP777. Size seems to be the main difference as many specs are the same it seems. The red accents on the 085 are nice. I have a 7 and a quarter inch wrist. Which way would you go? Thanks!

Thanks for comparing with the full size turtles. Since they redesigned the dial, I wish Seiko would've redesigned the second hand to put the *lollipop* on the correct side! Bezel looks better than the terrible turtle SRP777 bezel. On the SRPa21, bezel is stiff, slippery, and looks like shiny christmas ornament. (The design of bezel indentations is important). Marc, are the baby turtle bezel numbers slightly larger on the baby bezel? (May be my imagination.) I think the full size turtle looks fine on your wrist. I just wish the turtle was thinner, without the somewhat protruding case back that ruins the slight curvature of the turtle case (it appears curved to rest nicely on the wrist, but the caseback causes a pedestal effect that works against the wrist-fitting turtle shape). My 2 cents - YMMV

I love the scale of the mini, though do not like the cyclops addition whatsoever. A crystal swap will rectify that however. Great comparison to show the difference to the ‘daddy’ turtle !

The mini turtle somehow does not appear as a more rounded product in looks compared to the SKX or new 2019 5 series. The case body is asymmetrical to the bezel and protrudes outside while for SKX both are symmetrical. In fact most divers will have body and bezel symmetrical. Secondly the U-style lume markers not being in a circle shape make the watch dial look odd. Thirdly the number markings on the bezel are a bit on the larger side compared to SKX and makes the watch appropriate only for sporty wear. The SKX can be worn anywear.

That Rolex and Omega fit you well, nice choices. Edit: As I look at the Baby T more and more, it doesn't seem to maintain the proportions of case to bezel size that the regular T does. The Baby T seems awkward, as if the bezel should perhaps be about 40mm, instead of 42.3. I'm also disappointed by the indices on the Baby T, they should have kept the circles, as well as the crown at the 4 o'clock position. Perhaps there will be a future update to the model....

I wish they would bring out a proper midsized upgrade to the skx013. 42mm is still very much a 'full sized' diver. Have never been a massive fan of the lack of a crown guard on the turtles, personally I consider that more of a feature on a beater watch than hacking & manual wind.

The cyclops has grown on me. I think it’s hidden better because it’s round and I like that there is no lumed marker under the cyclops. Yes I too would prefer it without the cyclops but it’s certainly something I could live with. Not a deal breaker. Also wish the crown was more recessed into the case. But nice to see Seiko making a smaller Diver for once.

Marc, great video. Always good to see a size comparison! I think it was the right move by Seiko to go smaller. A shame they did not do that with the first Turtle already. 'Cause the watch is pretty damn perfect besides beeing a tad on the big side. I love the day date function and the crown at the 4. Would miss exactly that on the mini turtle. Steve E. Brown I HAVE owned probably more very high end watches (much bigger than Rolex's, btw) and I have found that "most" of the special and limited edition Seiko's to be at least equal to (almost) all of them (except brands like Patek, etc.), but absolutely more than every AUTOMATIC Rolex I've owned. Which I why I've sold all of them, mostly for much more than I paid for them originally. IMO, you are obviously a typical person who is blindly "devoted" to Rolex. Most likely b/c you think you are impressing complete strangers. I also would put up my Hamilton 42mm Khaki Field watch, automatic, against (almost) all of the Rolex's I've EVER know. For a fraction of the price, that particular Hamilton is as iconic (and certainly as precise) as ANY of the automatic Rolex's I've owned. Over the years lately, more than a few middle-price brands have become so good that they hold their own against the (supposedly) iconic AUTOMATIC Rolexs. I concede your right to your opinion, but I would put my (relatively new "rebooted") watch collection against ANY others out there. Watches under $1,000 have come up in true value "lately" and I believe that is where most new, and some "experienced" horologists, should be concentrating on. There are MANY great values out there that "should", at least, hold their value, if not grow in value. I am grateful that there are still people like you out there, "blind Rolex snobs". That will keep the "mid-level" entries affordable for quite some time. But eventually, I believe, the marketplace will "catch-up" to where the real value is. Flame on...
