On loan from a generous viewer, today I am reviewing the Seiko Presage SARW025. Based on the original Seiko wrist watch, the Seiko Laurel, the Presage SARW025 takes design cues from their classic and original watch from the year 1913 and reinvents it in a contemporary rendition.

The 6r15 in my SARB065 is keeping +2 seconds per day for the last 2 1/2 years, there is lots of anecdotal evidence for that performance. I did immediately throw away the strap though

I have a Seiko skx009 and I took it to a watchmaker because it was running +12 seconds/day. He adjusted the mechanism in about 2-3 minutes, for which I paid aprox. 3 dollars. Now my Seiko skx009 runs +1 second/day, but there are days when it runs slow -1 second a day. After 1 hole week of wearing it I discovered that the watch had +5 seconds deviation. I also own a Seiko Presage with the 4R36 movement, which after calibration by the same watcmaker runs +3-4 seconds/day, which is why I just love this brand so much.

18:16 I believe that you were trying to describe that herringbone pattern on that white enamel dial. The design of this watch just is a breath of fresh air from those featureless dial designs of the typical affordable Tissots, Hamiltons, Oris watches. This watch dial is outstanding and I can admire it all day long! Very few other watches can have that effect on me. The other exception is the Rolex Explorer.
@JustBlueFish

Yep, herringbone, someone else pointed that out already. I couldn't think of the word.

I would recommend not to downplay Tissot at least after considering the crappy QC issues in seiko even for watches upto $1000 … there fkd up customer support (in india atleast), their cost vs utility ratio ….. Tissots are too gud atleast consisting their prx, gentlemen , ballad , Le Locle and some sports models … rather today i can confidently say that they are the dark horses of the watch industry…i own mojito mocktail and spb317 1968 reinterpretation and hence this is through my experience…

I'm not a dress watch kind of guy, but I have to admit that's one nice watch. For me, the GS you reviewed a few days ago would have been more appealing if it had the same PR orientation as that watch. I love the number font, and love The herring bone pattern. The only thing I would criticize on the dial is that I wished they framed the complication cutouts with a polished stainless or thin black trim. Another fantastic review Guy!

I was actually planning on ordering one in the next couple of days (or possibly even in the next few hours depending on how much whisky I drink tonight) but now I need to slow down and think about it. Looks exactly like the SPB059J1, the only difference is the text on the dial. SARW025 is a two liner with only the applied "Seiko" branding and "Automatic" under it while SPB059J1 is a three liner with "Presage" printed directly under "Seiko" then "Automatic" below.

I prefer the SARX041 as an homage to the Laurel. Simpler dial, and the case is not as tall. I'm not a big fan of date dials. Also the 6R15 movement has a longer power reserve and is a lot more common if you need it serviced, and with a slower vibration will probably last longer as well.

I don't see much use for a power reserve indicator on an automatic watch. It should be near peak reserve throughout the day, and only maybe dipping when the wearer falls asleep. Regardless, I wish more power reserve indicators were shown in the display case on the back, unobtruding the actual dial.

In my experience Seiko are very conservative with their movement accuracy ratings. My SNK803 (7s26 movement) and SNZJ15 (7s36 movement) both keep within +/- 2.5 s/d which is significantly more than their rated accuracy. I'd guess Seiko prefers to both under promise, over deliver and save money on QC by listing generous accuracy ranges.

@@JustBlueFish thank you for your review style. In a good way your delivery has a certain matter of fact dryness to it. Your tone of voice gives away very little of your feelings about a watch. I find this makes it easier to evaluate the content of you opinions. I like the length of your reviews too. Often I play them in the background while performing data entry at work. They're never too long as I play them at 1.5x speed to save time if needed - something that can only be done because of your clear speech. Thank you for the hard work!

It also has more reserve and a 4hz movement. And the polishing the best of anything I have seen anywhere close to the this price. Case shape is just soo nice and all of that is before you consider the dial.

its hard to say all pro or all contra, BUT...for one, the Seiko snzf17k1 (Sea Urchin.), is...for a starter/beginners watch ( automatic ), one of the best watches to start with (got my son one, when he started out.), and overall..its the best bang per buck, so im not saying Seiko is bad, not at all, but over the years im not impressed by quality/qualitycontrol. one of my daily beaters is a srp637, its a great Seiko, but..as all in the low end of the line, its a bit slow on the secs every day, not much, but..it is. but it does the trick and can handle a door-knock out. i dont think "we get half of what we pay for", i do believe we get a bit more, but certain models is, well....not holding their value as good as others, thats true. are Seiko´s overpriced, nah...i dont think so either (forget about discontinued models, they are)This is it for me on the matter, i rest my case.
@JSarmat86
@JSarmat86 6 жыл бұрын
What I said is not just empty words. When people buy Seiko, they pay at least twice as much as the watch deserves. For example, Seiko use the same movement (the 7s-ish one) in SNK809 (60-70 USD) and in SKX line (around 200 USD). The Orient Mako Ray II is better than the SKX007 in almost every aspect and it's less expensive! My Shanghai S017 (50 USD) has hacking and handwinding feature and SKX does not!!! They put parts made in China even on their JDM models (see the video about SARB035 on J.Anthony's chanel). Speacking about SARB035. On seiyajapan.com the model SARX019 costs 668 USD at the moment. The cost of SARB035 was 300-350 USD. Both watches share a 6R15 movement and a +/- similar case. Can You justify the price increase by 300 USD due to blue-painted hands and plain white dial? I can't. Don't get me wrong, i love both models, but i just can't justify the price. Same with SARW025 - it can't cost more than 500 USD. Unfortunately Seiko parasitizes on people's love for the brand. :( I really like this joke: The son asks his father -- Dad, why do dogs lick their balls? -- Because they can, son. Same is with Seiko. -- Why they put such a inferior movement on SKX? -- Because people will buy it anyway. :(

For me, none of my watches ever get wet so as long as they are sealed enough to endure Florida humidity WR is really a non-factor. I'll clean my Submariner from time to time under the sink but the rest of my watches have rarely had more than a drop of water hit them.

This version needs to have the power reserve indicator removed from the dial. It totally spoils the balance and looks of the dial. Who the hell needs a power reserve indicator on an everyday watch? The dial would look lovely without it. Don't like the chopped off figure 6. Don't like the thickness for this style of watch. Don't like the large size. Far too big and bulky for my liking.
