I have had this watch since 2018. I wear it running, swimming, and mowing the lawn. It's a great no fuss watch and pretty much dominates my wrist every weekend. During the week I wear my Grand Seiko at the office. I like having watches on two ends of the price spectrum from Seiko for a well rounded experience. I highly recommend this STO over all the new ones as I believe this one has the most beautiful dial and is more understated than the new models they have produced.

Nevertheless, as a secondary wild card Seiko Diver, I don’t think you can do much better than the STO Turtle. I picked this up at Kohl's yesterday for $199 on clearance. Japan Mov't version which I believe is assembled in Malaysia. Would have been nice to find the all Japan version at that price new. I have this and love it. The dial is amazing. I've swapped the silicone strap for a steel 5 link engineer style bracelet. It is a fairly big watch, but so comfortable. I do think a watches lug to lug measurement is much more important than the size of a case when it comes to how a watch wears. I think too many people just look at the size. Good review of a great proper dive watch 👍

I have had a gilt turtle for a couple of years. I love the watch for the most part. My biggest issue is the handset is not properly aligned. When the hour hand crosses the 12 o’clock the minute hand is two minutes behind. I’ve never seen this even on really cheap pieces. Super annoying as I don’t think it merits fixing tbh

Nice review. I’m a fan of the Seiko Turtle. I really like cushion cases, and this is a very nice one. I’m not a fan of Seiko’s price increases. I have seen some Turtle models ( not the King Turtle, which I think they ruined) go for over $600 US. Not worth it. You can still get the classic black version, SRP077, for under $300.

@@PerthWAtch No sir. I have a chronograph, digital. In my lifetime, I spent, Seekonk ultra thin, $500 (when $500 was 10, 12, 15oo today.) 2 chronic at least @125.00 each. They rust, corrode? The buckle and crown. I feel they have quite good movements for the price. I don't trust Seiko quality anymore. I feel much better buying an Invicta case and bracelet with a Seiko movement. I bet my newest Seiko is 20 years old. Most are beautiful!
@aaronhughes65344 жыл бұрын
Can you comment on the widely held belief that a “Made in Japan” model such as this masterpiece are of higher quality and visibly better finishing? I think many of us watch fans would agree that going to Japan and purchasing a Japanese watch is a rite of passage that we all must strive to fulfill!
@PerthWAtch4 жыл бұрын
There are side by side comparisons between Japan made models and non-Japan models that have been done, and it does seem that the finish is better, at least on some comparisons I have seen. Going to Japan to get a watch would be pretty cool... alas many would have other priorities in life that prevent us doing that!

I believe the 4r36 is a re-badged NH35, but nothing wrong with that. Lovely dial, and usual good Seiko finishing. My issue with Seiko watches is they cost more than they should do, and rely on their name. San Martin/Heimdallr/Proxima etc, produce something better for a lot less. For the best part of £400 I would want sapphire, and the bezel looks like the typical wishy washy Seiko action. Love the turtle shape, it's classic and comfortable. Good review as usual
@karenparslow83464 жыл бұрын
I bought one love it the only thing I didn't like was the made in China sticker it had on it other than that good watch
@PerthWAtch4 жыл бұрын
4r35/36 is the designation when it's used in Seiko. When it's used by third parties it's NH35/36. It's the same movement. Yes Seiko rely on their name, but they also do have great original case design and don't have to copy anyone, unlike some of the other brands mentioned there. Their pricing pisses me off, but on the other side, if you can charge more and make more, from the perspective of a company director and shareholders, the argument is that you *should* do just that! What's the big deal about a sticker, when you can just rip it off? At least it's not on the dial eh! ;)

Having had this particular watch for a while, for some reason, I just don’t like it anymore, can’t put my finger on it, it just doesn’t do anything for me, initially, in the beginning, it was like wow, I love it, but then it after a while it lost it’s wow title and became a questionable choice, some watches that I have purchased in the past don’t seem to go the distance.
