I was contemplating getting one of these but didn't until just recently. Your video contributed to my going over that edge. It just arrived today. I see why people love it so much. Awesome, understated, no nonsense watch. Thanks for the "hacking" tip. To those of you who are into watches but don't have one of these, get one while you can. You deserve it!

Greetings from the year 2020. The whole world is in a snit about some virus spreading and SKXs are no longer being produced, which has driven up the price on the remaining ones. I could not afford to buy one at the original price back when they were being made, but can now afford the inflated price so I finally got one of these after wanting one for a long time.

Get an 007 or 009. Have a sapphire installed. Put it on a Nato strap. And you may have the best automatic dive watch ever made.

Great review. When I bought my 007, I liked it so much that I bought a 009. Both run great. Whoever buys this watch will not be disappointed. However, I do believe there is minimal difference between the K versions and J versions.
@crazyparrot30686 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment, sunset. I also have an SKX009 and it's a 'K' model. I believe you're right about there being little difference between 'J' and 'K' models, but the Js command a higher price nonetheless. The market does not always reflect what is true, it reflects what people believe is true.

Great review! I’ve watched hours of skx reviews and found one thing not ever mentioned, and so here is my 2 cents. I know the reason why it isn’t mentioned. Without a comparison no one mentions how incredibly imbalanced this watch is. It has a satisfying weight and gives the feeling of durability but marketing strategies by Seiko dictate an offering on a featherweight bracelet. I found the skx after going through Cartier, Rolex, and Omega brands, all of which are in a different price point. But the skx is an icon and I had to have one and it gets major wrist time. I also love cheap bracelets. An example is the metal offerings at Best Buy for my Apple Watch, so there is that. But.. . . . . . . . I have to mention that the combination heavyweight skx case (head) and featherweight hollow bracelet is like a wrestling match on my wrist. The magnitude makes me feel like it is manipulating my arm to flip me over! That bad, and I never ever hear anyone mention it. (Of course, an easy remedy is purchasing a solid bracelet) Anyway, I wanted to enjoy my original bracelet and found it impossible. And that is why there is a huge aftermarket, but nobody mentions the sports event taking place on your left wrist.
@ivermec-tin6665 жыл бұрын
Dir Kirsche, This is an excellent point. I have heard it referenced indirectly in reviews of third party solid bracelets for the skx; specifically the Strapcode jubilee and oyster bracelets, which are much heavier than the stock Seiko jubilee bracelet (the oyster being a bit heavier than the jubilee, but less conforming to the wrist as the links are larger). I should also point out that the stock rubber strap from Seiko is not particularly comfortable, and that the keeper will not contain the strap end if your wrist is small, like mine. Seiko has revised this design for the newer "turtle" dive watches that they now make. The bands on these are more flexible, have a metal keeper, and are textured on the inside, which might be better for use in the water. These turtle bands will fit the skx, but they are a bit expensive imo. Both versions are dust magnets.

Copy that “fnln “. You know I have to mention that I put mine on a solid beadsofrice bracelet and it is now my daily driver.

I would love one but $360 for the K and $460 for the J is more than I'm willing to spend on a watch. I dropped a little over $200 on an Orient Kamasu and for me that was an absolutely decadent purchase. Not that owning one is out of the question for me. It's just going to take a little patience and cunning. Things have a way of landing in your lap when you don't try to force it to come about. Funny how that is.

I agree with MB. I have a SKX011J1 and it looks great but is not great when you look at its features. The power reserve on my less than 12 month old watch is about 12 hours, nowhere near what is promised. It is not particularly accurate (+40 seconds per day). I think the bezel edge looks very cheap. Apart from that it is ok. I also have the Citizen eco drive pro master diver. It wins against the Seiko on every measure and is cheaper to buy. No contest really.

The eco drive is a totally different watch. Called quartz.

What's up with the colour of the video? Too much yellow shift. Makes the red text on the watch look brown. Looks like a different watch to the pictures. Maybe get a better camera. One that can focus. Enjoyed the vid apart from that.

Buy a handwinding and hacking watch with a solid bracelet and a sapphire chrystal is a must. Under $100 Invicta Pro diver. Under $350 the Seagull Ocean Star. I wish someone had guided me away from the Seiko skx when I started out. I have one with scratched hardlex and I never wear it. I should ebay but I wouldn't want anyone to fall for the same bullshit that I did.
