I understand why it's so popular to mod but as is is my preference. Think it looks great and great bang for buck; a lot of mods you see just make it look like a really cheap FF knock off.

Such a great looking mechanical piece in every respect- that will run for 10y w no concerns. Really goes to prove that so much of our watch enthusiasm has more to do with psychological factors and much less to do with beauty of form, practical functionality and overall durability. But we already know logic has little to do with collecting. Awesome piece. Thanks again for another well done review.

I own one of these and other Seiko's in my collection and I must say I still think that for the money, this is without question one of the best values in watches there is...! This watch looks fantastic, runs well and could easily pass for a $500 watch or more...! Very reliable proven movement... No you can't hack but it's still awesome and the two tone with gold applied markers is a KNOCKOUT....This is a dressy diver....Best value in watches today...! Just my opinion...

I bought it as soon as I saw it, love the kind of retro look. But as soon as I got it, I bought a Sapphire crystal with purple AR coating and sent to my watchmaker to have it swapped with a 2 year warranty. It is really a stunner with a Sapphire crystal with purple AR against the gold and black. And the lume does last all night even though there isn't much of it on the indices, but it is thickly applied. A great deal for a kind of vintage look.

Frank Andre Holmestrand its not hackable ( not an issue) but is it windable? And how did you get to keep the warrenty after you changed the glass? Also, where do you get the sapphire crystal? Im in Australia and have 2 Seiko divers i want to change to Sapphire.... thanks

I've had this since Feb. 2022 (yes I'm late, I know) and it looks fantastic!! Except for the movement, I love everything about this watch. The boxed dome Hardlex crystal, the transparent bezel insert (Hardlex?), the applied indices, the surprisingly good bracelet (looks and feels better than the typical Seiko bracelet, even feels better than some bracelets in more expensive Seiko pieces in their higher end lines), and the 'just right' dimensions. I just wish it had a 4R36 but hey, the 7S36 makes sure you're constantly involved.

I kinda prefer the Seiko, style-wise, to the Blancpain. The main attraction of a FF is to not buy a Rolex like everyone else.

It’s the 7s36 movement. I have the SNZH53, the blue dial is stunning, looks like a much more expensive watch, it wears beautifully. Absolutely worth the money.

Absolutely outstanding watch! I am really considering this watch, I just which it wasn't a Seiko 5. I fell in love with the design and I really think that it is one of the coolest designs of a watch I've ever seen. This design really speaks to me. Beautiful bezel, Milsub/ sword hands & funky retro case. Had this been in their Prospex line with a 4R or 6R movement, it would have been PERFECT! Anyway, I hope to pick this watch with the black bezel and sunburst black dial up in the near future. Great video Rob!

@J M Straps are notoriously bad on Seiko 5s, but what can you expect from a good automatic watch under 200 ? One have to be fair and can't expect top notch straps. The money saving have to come from somewhere, and the best way to cut the price without ruining the watch, is to put a crappy strap. But do you know that you can buy a new strap and change it yourself very easely ? Could be a metal strap, leather, Nato...anything you want, given it's a 22mm lug width.

DonjonArmory Depends on what you want. My Seiko SNK809 has the 7S26 and I like it for the $64 price. I would like the added functionality of hacking and hand wind. Variety is also a consideration for me.

The Orients are built to diver standard, though not certified like an SKX. This watch isn't a true diver. As someone has already mentioned, this one sells on its aesthetics and lower price

Could you help me out with the day date function? My Snzh57 came in English and some middle eastern lookin language, like the Isis flag lettering. Anyways. The day and date don’t move when I want them to, todays the 19th and I saw the transition to the 20th, this is my first date function watch soo ha The day function switches to the isis lettering (not English), idk why

Ummm. Incorrect. In fact Seiko tends to under rate their watches. So long as you make sure that the crown isn't pulled out you can swim with this beauty all you want.
